Thanks! I tried the Helibase clip and this spot seems to work the best, I hold down forward, right and crouch while I throw. I never got stuck in the rubble and could leave easily (I got it about 3-4 times, going to practice some more).

EDIT: I'm going to start an Ultimate Run (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYazoMYBZXHOGdHrEIag_NpHH9Sr_CxKH), I'm not going to try getting perfect segments, finishing it is my goal Smiley I'm also just going to use codes, without finding them first.

EDIT 2: Another PB! (46:48, http://www.twitch.tv/labbekak/c/3197274), I could've gotten sub-46 but I died at Area 51. I've gotten quite good at the Vandenberg grenade clip, I got it in two tries in this run!

Here's a little video of the Helibase clip done first try:

Also after a little clip finding session with Jjpalazzo on my stream we found a new clip at the Duclare mansion, you do need a box to do it: .
I throw the grenade standing up and walk on to it after throwing it, I don't hold forward. Ignore that I opened the menu for 10s, I was looking at the stream chat :p.

EDIT: Alright new PB 46:37 (http://www.twitch.tv/labbekak/c/3207610). The Duclare clip is actually pretty easy once you've placed the box right, I can get it in 1-3 tries (I used it in my PB). The Helibase however is too random and I'm not using it anymore until I get better at it, like the Catacombs clip.
My current Ship route:

Catacombs to Cathedral (includes a better look at the Duclare clip):
Has anyone tried seeing if the dummy version of Max Chen in the Hong Kong streets would be faster to go through? IIRC he still has all the correct dialogue and story progression stuff, he's just on top of one of the buildings for some odd reason. I would test it, but I'm re-setting up all my saves and I haven't got that far yet.
Deus Ex!
Wow! I never knew he was up there! I tested it and it's definitely faster (about 20-30s), but I always get the Thermoptic Camo from one of the troops at the Lucky Money club. The Camo is a necessity for Area 51, so unless I find another Camo on my route or find another way to do Area 51, this can't be used. I don't think the Cloak augmentation is anywhere close on my route.

Also when falling of the building after talking to Max Chen, be careful not to fall in to the compound before talking to Max Chen!

I think I might be able to get the Camo at the Mole Tunnels, but it's a bit risky since the NSF will see you and attack you when you get it.
Yeah, I knew he was up there for a long time, but obviously the only way up at that time was to climb up using lots of LAMs. Superjumps make that redundant, but damn that's a shame that you need the camo. I might mess around with it once I get all my stuff set up again.
Deus Ex!
Okay, getting the Camo at the Mole Tunnels was not as hard as I thought (http://www.twitch.tv/labbekak/c/3207901), you don't lose any time it's just a bit riskier since you might get shot randomly. I'll try this out in my next run.
Does getting the camo earlier affect inventory management at all? From what I've got so far it's pretty stacked by the time you finish at Lebedev's airfield.

No, there's plenty of room, you can drop the stun prod after UNATCO1. I tried the new route with the Lucky Money skip and it works great! I was -2 minutes at one point, but then I died at the Catacombs and the game crashed at Area 51 :/. In the end I got -37s, 46:00: http://www.twitch.tv/labbekak/c/3208255. With this route I can definitely get the RTA WR if I get a decent run!

Some notes of my current route:

I get the Camo at the Mole Tunnels by shooting the box with the pistol, getting the Camo and the running to the key, I use the flamethrower on the guy standing outside the secret room and I use it on the box in front of the "button". Then I quickly grab the key and clone flamethrower ammo and just run away, killing anybody in the way.

After I'm done with Maggie Chow's apartment I just run to the compound, do a triple superjump to Max Chen, talk to him, (carefully) fall down and talk to Gordon Quick and continue with the run.

At the ship I also do everything with the GEP now instead of also using LAMs.

At the Duclare Mansion I do the clip. Because you have to get the box from inside it's only about 10s faster, but the clip itself is easy and it skips typing in a name/password and it skips some enemies which is always good.

At Vandenberg I jump in the skylight, burn the 3 enemies on the ground and shoot a rocket to destroy the boxes near the Command Center door. Then I jump up and kill all the enemies on this floor (there are 2 snipers there, so I don't want to risk not killing them) and I do the clip. When I leave I do a double superjump through the skylight back to the roof, it's a bit tricky (and you have to do it quick because there's a turret there) but I think it's the best way to leave.

At the subbase I still kill the sniper, I just don't want to take the risk.

With this route I do have less skill points though which means a longer lockpicking time at Area 51, but it's only a few seconds slower. When I get in I just press the elevator button and stand near the gate. When the three guys come up I immediately torch them all.

EDIT: So I think this is the fastest route to get the box at the Duclare mansion, it costs three rockets but that shouldn't be a problem. I talk to Nicolette at the start so she doesn't bother me later. You need the last rocket or else Nicolette will block the way. http://www.twitch.tv/labbekak/c/3208572 (don't listen to the audio, I was watching a stream while I recorded and accidentally recorded the audio from the stream, oops)

EDIT 2: Getting the box even faster: http://www.twitch.tv/labbekak/c/3209109. You can equip a weapon and hold the box at the same time by holding the box in a wall and then equiping using the inventory (F1). To drop the box use the right click, not the drop key.

EDIT 3: Is there any point where you really need the Dragon Tooth Sword? I don't think you really need to get it.
Nice stuff, guys. I had read a while ago that Max Chen was on top of a building, but I never went looking for him myself. It didn't occur to me that he might be so conveniently located (with the superjump) and have the right triggers.

The DuClare clip is also cool, but a bit awkward for segmented because I have to figure out where the next best place to get a LAW is. I'm hoping it's possible to do the same thing by standing on a planted grenade to avoid getting the crate, but no luck so far. If I do need the crate, I'll probably clip in through the window. Also, I'd try to throw and catch the crate as much as possible to avoid being slowed. That might not be worthwhile in RTA because of the risk of dropping it.

I don't think you really need the DTS, but it doesn't cost much, if any, time to get. What else are you going to do between entering the self-destruct code and the hatches opening? It's useful for killing commandos if you need to, making the MJ12 trooper in the catacombs flee and open the door (I assume you're going to Chad because it also ends the infolinks so you can save), and breaking a few unlocked doors rather than waiting for them to open (off the top of my head, the two wooden doors on the way into the Luminous Path compound and the outer door to the Paris club).
I got a pretty good PB earlier! 47:28, baby. My menu work is still very sloppy, and I lost time at the start of the Ocean Base and accidentally killed myself at the very end, but otherwise somewhat solid. I didn't use the Helibase clip in this run, but I think I might grind it out and try desperately to find something consistent. I had one run today where I got caught by a guard coming out of the vent, and he killed me, so I reloaded a quicksave from the start of the helibase and clipped first try. Sad

I think my next course of action will be practicing menus and computer screens, since I'm bad at those sometimes.

Good job man!

I've experimented a little with the bugged save to skip infolinks that was found by IlliterateChild. It's easy to do it at Hell's Kitchen 2 at the bar (http://www.twitch.tv/labbekak/c/3223209) by talking to the bartender, because you can retry (picking "Never mind." every time) until you get it. You create the buggy save by saving the game while the conversation cam is still playing (so you save while you see JC's face or the bartender's face). If you load the buggy save while an infolink is playing the infolink will end immediately. Here I do it at the Catacombs clip, which allows me to quicksave without waiting for all the infolinks, http://www.twitch.tv/labbekak/c/3223233. Another spot where this would be useful (for RTA) would be at the Helibase clip for a faster quicksave. And it's useful of course for the Missile Launch to go in the Helicopter without waiting for the infolinks (but there was already a video posted of this a while back). There were some bad things though, when I loaded the buggy save sometimes the game would freeze completely for a bit, also I couldn't get in to the bar again after creating the buggy save there, the area wouldn't load and my movement speed was reduced all of a sudden. I'll do some more experimentation with it to see how useful it is. Also I have to find a point before the Helibase where it's the easiest to create the buggy save.

EDIT: Skipping the infolink at Hell's Kitchen 2 will stop the helicopter from spawning.

EDIT2: The game freezes after loading the buggy save until you left/right click, pressing escape also works.

EDIT3: I guess you could just try and create a bugged save at every conversation, but you can't hold space and create the saved bug so you'll have to somehow hold space until you're at the last line, which is quite hard to time. That's why it's easy to do with the bartender, because picking "Never mind." will be the last line. The guy selling stuff outside UNATCO also works, but he has more lines.

EDIT4: It's pretty easy to do with the guy outside UNATCO, it's about 15-20s slower: (http://www.twitch.tv/labbekak/c/3223687). Here's the Helibase using the infolink skip: (http://www.twitch.tv/labbekak/c/3223656) and a (bad) video of the Catacombs: (http://www.twitch.tv/labbekak/c/3223673, skip 0:56 to 1:31, it's me staring at the menu).
So I just messed around with this a little. I was able to get a corrupt save from Jock after the escape from UNATCO sequence, simply by mashing quicksave after his last line of text. That was then immediately used in Hangar Bay, and then replaced by the one to clip through the door. I think this is the ideal way to do it.

Just from my testing, there's some weirdness with corrupt saves that I'm not fond of. I loaded one save and the audio was all garbled, and then any save I made from there on out was also corrupt. I also had one save just prior to the loading zone to the top of UNATCO (so I could test the quicksave on Jock). When I reloaded the save after getting it to work, the loading zone to the top didn't work. it gave me the error message, and then JC proceeded to slowly shuffle around. While invincible.

So yeah, from what I see so far, more problems arise if you go backwards in save files rather than going forward in a run, but still, I'm a little tentative.

Alright new PB (45:02, http://www.twitch.tv/labbekak/c/3232208, http://www.twitch.tv/labbekak/c/3232214)! I almost got the WR but I failed the Ocean Lab clip -_-. I also did the risky Catacombs strat (letting the MJ12 open the door for me). I didn't do the buggy save, because I'm not yet good enough at the Helibase and Catacombs clips. Also OBS disconnected from Twitch for a few seconds during the Ship level, so the video is split in two and the Ship level is only partially there and very laggy :(.

EDIT: Two new things, Hawkybird found that you can destroy the Helibase doors quicker than the helicopter, so if you aren't going to do the clip you can do something like this: http://www.twitch.tv/labbekak/c/3238401. Secondly, it's actually quite easy to just jump over the lasers at the Subway instead of shooting the TNT, so you can do something like this: http://www.twitch.tv/labbekak/c/3238436.
That's neat. The doors become destructible just as Jock fires the missiles. So if you're a bit ahead and a previous infolink is still going, you'll want to watch him and fire just before he finishes turning, or just count about 5 seconds after you pass through the doorway.

With the new Max Chen, it seems a bit more direct to return from the canals to the market via the "Old China Hand" route from the balcony to the right of where you exit Tonnochi Road. It puts you right at the base of the building. It's not a huge advantage though because you don't cover any horizontal distance during the jump. Also, you can easily bump into signs and fall into the canal. If you still have the superjump on, you can crouch jump over the door into the compound after talking to Gordon Quick.

Interesting, I'll try out that "Old China Hand" route when I have the time. As for the Helibase, you're crosshair changes as soon as the door becomes destructible, so it's easy to time.

Also are you planning to use the bugged save glitch in the segmented?

Offtopic but since you did the Invisible Wars segmented: Do you know if there is an Invisible Wars single segment/RTA record? I want to do a few runs of that game and I guess I'll get the RTA WR by default, since there's only the segmented one.

NMS: 2013-11-16 01:05:37 am
I think I will use the save glitch, if only for the missile base. The admins seem to approve of this kind of glitch as long as the save is created during the run. I haven't decided where to try to create the save. Hopefully I can get it just by spamming quicksave at the end of a conversation that I skip, but if not, there are a few that it might be faster not to just hold space, like Atanwe.

I also realized that if I get a LAW earlier in the game, it might come with enough skill points that I don't have to redo segments 2-5. I just need to figure out where the quickest one is. I estimated that the one at the NSF helibase costs 17 seconds, but allows for the LAW trick on the 747, which might save up to 7. I also need to decide where to get GEP ammo, since there's no down time at the MJ12 helibase anymore. I might just end up going to the UNATCO armory. There are lots of alternatives for both, but so far none of them seem faster.

Regarding Invisible War, I'm not aware of any SS/RTA runs. But there are some things you should know:
- Regardless of how good your computer is, the game will minimize for several seconds at each load (and there are a lot of them). However, you can speed up the actual load screens by making sure vsync is off and no programs are locking your frame rate (yes, it takes longer to display all the frames of the loading bar than to actually load).
- The combat is much more forgiving than the first game. Even on Realistic, you can just survive a direct hit from a rocket if you're at full health.
- Exiting levels between infolinks can save a lot of time, but it's very precise and you have to rely on audio cues. I would record myself trying it a few times, then check the video frame by frame to see if I was hitting it too soon or too late.
- Multiple pickup works for non inventory items (including biomod canisters), but it's not as reliable or effective. So you may want to save while pointing at a canister, then load and spam use (or use the mousewheel) to get all the augs you need for the game. Speed enhancement and cloak are obvious, radar transparency and regen may also be useful if you pick up enough biocells.
Hi, I haven't looked at this thread in a while - I contributed a bit to Dex's original DX run. I'd just like to say that the tricks found in the last few pages, mainly the superjumps and grenade clips, have been revolutionary, so congratulations. I remember when Dex finished his run thinking to myself that DX must have been completely exhausted and that no one would ever find another remotely useful glitch or cut again, but you guys have totally proven me wrong. Can't wait to see the finished product of this, hope you get sub-40 minutes, if not better. Wish I could offer some more glitches but it looks like you're all set. I will say one thing though - I might be wrong but in the ships lower decks level I'm pretty sure that you don't need to log in to the computer to reverse the flow; I think you can just hit the switch on the wall next to the computer and it does the same job. As I said though, it's been a while since I played so I'm probably wrong, but it might be worth looking into to shave a second or two.

Yeah, I think the new segmented might be sub-40! Do you have an estimate NMS? I tried out your idea, but you really need to use the computer. The switch seems useless, it doesn't matter if I use it or not I can still finish the level. Also I was having trouble with rocket duplication, it always took 5-10 tries before I got 20 rockets. It seems to work really good for me when I also right-click, so I scroll down and right-click. You guys don't seem to have any problems with item duplication though.
I have no idea on an estimate. There have been so many new discoveries recently.

As for duplication, I use a Logitech mouse with a free-spinning wheel and I start it spinning before aiming at the item. That generally gets several pickups. Also, for really large amounts, it helps to run a background program that intercepts mouse actions. I normally have X-Mouse Button Control running for unrelated reasons, but unselecting "Process non-client messages" makes duplication much more effective. However, it also causes problems if you spin too fast (the mouse can lock up or jump around and sometimes you get a beeping noise). Might not be worth it in RTA.
I don't know if this is known already, but apparently you can glitch yourself into silent running mode. Here's the latest glitched walkthrough video that demonstrates it (starting at 10:20).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=I1Arb8oYK50#t=620

Could this be useful at all or do you always run through every area too quickly for it to matter?

Thanks, I didn't know there was another GWT out! I wasn't able to do it while running and jumping, I had to be standing still. Also jumping resets the sounds again. I don't really see where this could be useful, maybe it'll make some parts easier for the RTA run, I'll test it out.

EDIT: Since you have to stand still to do it and it resets as soon as you do almost anything besides walking, it isn't useful anywhere.
You should ask him if he's found anything that could be speed-run useful. Or just watch his GWT because there's so much craziness happening there's bound to be something you've missed.

Hello! I thought I should give you guys hand with your speedruns since you guys have all helped me out tremendously with the GWT. I don't have time right now to cover everything, so for now I'll just go over what I know so far about the silent run glitch.

If you attack while landing after a jump, it will glitch the movement animation and cause JC to move without footsteps. You can jump forward while performing this glitch, but you must stand still for a moment after you land. From what I can tell the timing of the attack is flexible, as long as you are still doing your attack animation as you land it will work. The timing of the attack does not seem to make a difference in how long it takes for the animation to freeze after you land. You can play around with the timing in front of a mirror somewhere, like a bathroom or the Underworld Tavern.

It is possible to create the glitch a few other ways too. If you attack while going down from something slightly higher, you can create this glitch. But it does not seem to trigger on stairs since the landing animation isn't used on them. Another silent run glitch- that I actually saw Labbekak do in his speed run- can be performed with at least the prod. This one is a bit different- if you attack and break something like a crate while moving into it, you will be stuck in the attack position. This should work with other weapons too- but I haven't tested it yet. Unfortunately, this one goes away very easily- if you stop moving the animation will fix itself.

I'll most likely post a video about this glitch next week . If you have any questions feel free to ask. I might post a bit about the loading glitch a little later today if I have the time.
Deus Ex!
Hey man, thanks for the post! I was wondering is there any way to do it without items? I was planning to do an ultimate run (no skills/items/augmentations), but I'm stuck on the fourth segment (at the Warehouse). This glitch would really help, but of course I can't use any items. I tried to do it with throwing boxes while landing, but that doesn't work (because there is no throwing animation, I guess).

You are welcome! There is a similar glitch you can do, but it is quite laborious and risky. First pick up an item that is medium sized, like a chair. Then while moving spam use (as if you were trying to do the duplication glitch). Throwing /picking up disrupts the running animation when done quickly enough, so you look like you are sort of gliding. The object you are juggling can't hit the ground, and you can't run into it or people will hear you. On top of that you have to make sure you are doing it fast enough, or there will be footsteps.

This one doesn't work well with augmentations, at least with medium sized items. It may work if you use a lighter item, I haven't tested that yet.
