With clips through the super-thin walls like windows (Everett's/Sealab escape), I usually aim halfway between the edge of the ledge and the edge of the window, and then step on the grenade just after throwing. It's really consistent. For the clip to escape the UNATCO cell, I aim between the bottom of the glass and the edge on the other side of the glass. It's not as consistent, though, but worth a shot.

Do the grenades have different hitboxes? It seems to me that LAMs are way more consistent on Everett/Sealab and a gas grenade is better on the Vandenberg fence. Could just be my imagination I suppose.

I find EMP grenades to be the best for most clips. I think they have the same hitbox as Gas Grenades, so that works too.

@Lab

I'll use the 4th rocket to destroy the door at Osgood's, or kill myself after Paul. Either should save a few seconds. I might get a buggy quicksave from Paul just before dying. That way I can use it for saving the inventory and the Helibase clip. Doing DMW at Area 51 is interesting, but skipping the camo would only really be worth it if you clipped through the bathroom door in Mole Tunnels, and I think that's about as feasible as the Catacomb clip in an RTA. Gotta play around with some stuff, at least.
Deus Ex!
When you're trying the Mole Tunnel clip, try this spot by Jjpalazzo (), using that spot it's about as consistent as the Helibase clip for me.
Deus Ex!
@NMS: I saw on footbigmike's stream that there is a hiding place near the Mole Tunnel bathroom, it gives you 38 skill points when you go in it and it should take less than 5s to get them, might be useful if you really need the skill points? There's also a LAM and an EMP grenade in this place.

I took a look at the hitboxes of all the grenades the other day, and they all have slightly different dimensions. The LAM is the tallest and widest. EMP is about as wide as the LAM, but it is the shortest. The scramble grenade is about as tall as the LAM, but it is the skinniest. The gas grenade I think was kinda in the middle for both height and width.

You guys probably haven't tried out scramble grenades much because they are out of the way to pick up. It was in a useless spot for a clip, but I was able to clip through a wall using one. I haven't been able to do that with anything else. I also haven't been able to clip through walls at any other points, yet.  If you want to experiment with them, the best place to pick them up is probably UNATCO by talking to Shannon after you escape from the MJ12- she can sell you a couple.

Edit: Now that I think about it I might have clipped through a wall a few times in part 33 using a scramble grenade too. I was aiming to get my face into a wall just behind a security console. I ended up clipping through the wall and dying, but my body was on the opposite side of the wall. I think I made it through the wall and then died instantly because of the gas.
Deus Ex!
I was able to clip through the wall above the UNATCO door with the gas grenade once (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/56227900/deusex/deusex-clip1.png). I'll check if scramble grenades are easier to clip with.

Since I'm gonna be helping with the couch commentary for UA's Deus Ex run, I decided to fire up the game again and go through his route myself. Apparently I'm either completely stupid and missed it or nobody has documented this before: in the KB binds section of the options menu, the F3-F12 listings (in the actions section) don't refer to the actual Function keys themselves, but to the augmentation slots they activate. Apparently it's possible to use this section to rebind your augmentations to more convenient keys. As a test, I set the F12 action to H and sure enough the flashlight worked fine. There's no documentation of it in any manual that I've found, and even going through the ini files doesn't show them as listed, so I'm assuming it's a complete accident that they're there in the first place (possibly a developer thing that wasn't removed?).

If you guys already know about this, then just ignore me (I'm always late to the party).

Yeah, I have speed bound to F, I only wish you could rebind the nanokey button. I have to let go of the mouse to press 0 :/

Open up "Deus Ex/System/User.ini", find the "[Extension.InputExt]" section and change/add the key you need, e.g.:
Code:
G=ActivateBelt 0

There's also a bunch of keybinds under "[Engine.Input]", but changing it there didn't seem to do anything for me.
Deus Ex!
Thanks, that worked!

Great, now I'm gonna have to rebind a bunch of stuff and relearn keypresses. Thanks, jerks. Wink

Edit: Just so this post has some actual content, is the only reason to go to the armory during the escape in the current "fastest" route to duplicate GEP ammo? Because if it is, then you could also do it on the way to VersaLife level 2 (knock out the one guard near the ROM encoding, drop your gep gun, pick his up, drop it, pick up your original, then duplicate it off of the guard's gun). Not sure if that had been considered before.

Don't forget the aug upgrade in the armory.
Not a walrus
Well, I get that on my marathon route, but I think the current fastest route doesn't get any augs past Speed, and you have enough to fully upgrade that before the NSF base (last one is in Paul's closet).
Deus Ex!
Never really thought of that, but yes I think duping rockets at Versalife level 2 is faster. Shoot the guy with the pistol, drop the GEP, loot the guy, and dupe rockets with the dropped GEP.
Not a walrus
The reason to drop the guy's gep is because using your own gep would only duplicate whatever rockets you already had, right? (Which I assume would be either 1 or 0 at that point.)
Deus Ex!
Okay I tested it now and I couldn't dupe if I had 0 rockets? After dropping the guards GEP and picking up my GEP I suddenly had 2 rockets instead of 0 and I couldn't dupe with the GEP on the floor.

Huh, I wonder if it's different with weapons that you pick off of bodies instead of off the floor. I guess it's not like grenades in that respect? Boo. Oh well.

Edit: Looked at the weapon pickup code, it looks like weapons flagged as "bTossedOut" don't give you any ammo. So much for that, then.
Hey guys. I was just wondering if anyone has ever experimented with the naval ship. I've noticed once you swim under it, denton's head clips slightly under the ship. You can see parts of the ship loaded, and I was think there might be a loading zone under it. I don't think if you could clip through the ship you would save much time, but it still would be interesting.
Deus Ex!
No I've never tried that, I'll give it a shot.

This is probably known but if you collide with a LAM underwater, it will knock you back slightly.. I don't know if that will help though.
Time for Plan C
So, I've been trying to work out a Deus Ex single segment run and I feel I'm ready to start sharing taking it more seriously.  I still haven't actually executed it with zero quicksaves yet, but I feel I am quite close to being able to and I feel the route is pretty safe as a single segment overall.  I used the segmented run as a basis to start from and worked from there with things I thought were humanly possible.  Maybe some day some of the cooler stuff will seem humanly possible to me.

I saw that there was another single segment run in progress by Prentice that was sub 50 minutes.  Unfortunately, every single link I could find to his run is dead.  I would've loved to have seen what he did.  Maybe if he's still around, we can combine forces.

I'd love to hear any input from anyone or get in touch with other contemporary Deus Ex speedrunners as it seems single segment hasn't be discussed in some time.

The below run has a few disasters in it... such as the patrons of the Paris Club freaking out over me running around with my rocket launcher out.  And I also buy bio cells from the guy in the club when I clearly don't need it.  I feel without that alone this might've been something like 54 minutes.  Either way, this quite imperfect run ends at 55:49.

Anyway, my run with a fair number of mistakes and quickloads so far is below:

Thanks Smiley

I was thinking about doing a single segment run, but since single segment with resets is allowed now, I didn't see any point in doing it. Single segment will probably be really frustrating with all the clips and the Missile Base trick.

You should watch footbigmike's WR (http://www.twitch.tv/footbigmike/c/3360440) and maybe my Dead Man Walking run (http://www.twitch.tv/labbekak/c/3346573, Dead Man Walking route *might* be a little safer), since you don't use any of new tricks (such as the superjump), and the new tricks save quite a bit of time.

Also read through this thread, there's a lot of new stuff found since the segmented!

Do you stream? I can watch and help you with the new stuff if you do.

By the way, for anybody curious, as I don't think I've seen a video like this in the thread (but the thread is huge so who knows), here's a couple alternate angles of the silo LAW shot, to make it more clear what's going on. Playersonly is the best cheat code.

Now that is cool. Makes me think that after your marathon run we should try to get that video on the stream to show people exactly what happened.
Time for Plan C
Wow, this is very cool.  So much new stuff.  The high jumps are insane.  I think I might still be able to beat these and I'm definitely going to try.  Sorry for posting such an outdated run.

Deus Ex!
Just found this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vNvysOYWbA, Deus Ex Realistic SS in 42:04 by Fox Mizore. Sub segmented Shocked I really have to derust and catch up!

EDIT: Some notes on the route that I wrote down while I was watching it:

In general
Getting the regen aug which allows for unsafer stuff like exiting Vandenberg through the front.
He clips by throwing the grenade while standing, and then crouching after throwing.
He duplicates while running at times. He uses the speed aug bunnyjump.
GEP reloading trick?

UNATCO 1
Skip first biocell, get Osgoods one instead

Subway
Use crossbow to shoot subway TNT

Warehouse
Three grenade jumps at the Warehouse

UNATCO escape
Standing clip at UNATCO prison
Regen aug + aug upgrade

Helibase
New Helibase route

Hong Kong
Extra GEP ammo from the Versalife Lv 1 guy
Running past the Versalife Lv 2 bot by using the regen mod + medkits
Slightly different route at Chow's appartment

Ship
Slightly different ship route

Duclare
Attempts the old Duclare clip

Everett
Uses the new Everett clip

Vandenberg
No killing the enemies Vandenberg
Exiting Vandenberg through the front

Sealab
Accessing the computer from the runway
Not destroying the turrets with the GEP

Area 51
Nicer jumps at the start, no superjump needed.
Killing the guys in the elevator with the GEP

Some improvements might be doing the Helibase, Mole Tunnel, Catacombs or Area 51 clip and getting the buggy save to skip the Missile Launch infolink.
