Adding 30 seconds for every bio-scan and timing Burke's speech on the last one, I got ~20:30 from the start of the game until I'm back in the menu after skipping the credits. I might have forgotten to add something though.

I don't know how you did the detention block yet, but if you watch my last video I do the drop from the crate on the third level the second time around. The first drop is about 3:20 into the second video. That's what I was talking about.

Of course if you can drop directly into the tower somehow, that'd be a lot faster.
(new acc. drMalcom)
I think your link is the wrong video, you actually mean the jump at 3:25 on this one.. ? There is a small wooden crate on the 3rd floor at 3:09 Cheesy
I do a drop in both videos within 5 seconds of the time I linked to in them, with two different crates in the same room. Wink

ooh I get it. You use the small crate for the 2nd jump. I use the small crate the 1st time and the large one the 2nd time.
That glitch with the guard dropping down the ladder happened to me as well. After a few seconds he despawned :p
(my video is uploading, 1.5 hours left)

Btw, should we maybe ask an admin to split this thread.. ?

PS: I copied your boss fight. I honestly don't know how to do it faster.
Yeah, I was going to use the large crate myself as well. I realised that after having to go into the menu and buy the heavy lifting, and the fact that I drop down right next to the exit from the second level anyway, I probably wouldn't have saved any time at all. I might be wrong in this though.

I was thinking that if you could possibly get your hands on a frag grenade to kill off the heavy on top of the control room, and just shoot Burke in the head through a window, you could save a lot of time in the last room. You'll also have killed Burke by doing that, making the transmission from Quinn a bit shorter.

Your run is 1:44 faster than mine ! Your estimation was correct. My last video is now uploaded. There is one boost jump, but I'm not sure whether it saves time.
Maybe it's possible to throw all those grenades and then climb up to Burke and kill him before everyone else dies.
After the Marathon I started to a few run's for this got down to 01:42:00. I did a save after the "fun" non skip-able intro and clock it at 6:05 so if i need to start over I can start from there, I know for a real run I'll need to just start from the intro but this works for now. My only real question is what about the pre-order quest that can NOT be skipped? That time i got does not include this extra mission it is only like a 60 sec thing but because it's on the other side of china it takes almost a good 5 min's to get there. The only thing I can think of if to not include it is to stop the time after you talk to the guy and start it right after you turn it in. Fail ghost and get as little xp and do nothing else like go buy something from the LIMB I got a candy part only so I could start back with the energy that i had going into it.

Unless anyone know of a way to remove the quest Wink
Not sure if it's possible to remove it on 360 or PC versions, but if you're playing on a PS3 you just have to delete your installation data (not the savefiles) and re-install it without downloading the mission from the store again.

Ya it's PC tho I could probably try and install another copy out of steam with out the extra stuff that is if i want to go for an "real" run but I'll need more work lol fornow I think I'll just go with the cutting it out. See how much XP it gives me and see if it effects my XP all that much.

I guess i should also stop killing Sandoval with a mine for a no kill run lol.
I hope my run encouraged more people to play the game again. =p
(new acc. drMalcom)
Have you made a new SS run ?
I've thought about doing speed run's back when i first found this site but all i had where RPG's and the best time's for them are like 6 hours so my time's would like like 12 lol
Think I'm ready for a run had one main problem in detroit pt. 2 with Ezekiel always and i mean ALWAYS seeing me getting into the bathroom, but i have a way to fix that now so here hoping i dont mess up too much >.< Not counting the pre-oder thing, ugh, I might get under 1:40 i can hope.
I am looking for constructive criticism on my casual run of DX:HR.

My current time (minus all cutscenes, loading bars, and opening levels) is 1:25:03. This is done on Normal difficulty.
Here is a link to the video:

This run was really just to work out a general build + paths I take along the course of the game, a final run will be on the hardest difficulty mode and have a lot more minor optimisation stuff along the way, like killing bosses faster and picking shorter dialogue paths. I could probably also think about grabbing more stuff that insta-recharges my energy because there are a bunch of random places where I'm waiting around a bit or killing time for a full battery charge.

Here is random info about the noteworthy segments if you're interested
2
chose Lethal/Close (Magnum)
forgot to edit out cutscene
ladder "falling" thing which I use a fair bit in this run
shooting guy is faster than taking him down, for pistol

3
shot guy for more pistol ammo

4
sneaking past these guys can be a bitch, could possibly be faster but was playing conservatively
grabbed praxis point and used box to stop bot shooting me
looted human proxy for nuke virus soft

6
I never asked for this
declining the mission from your ex's mother causes her to unskippable dialogue

7
buy 5 typhoon ammo, 2 energy refills and a praxis point
spend all 3 praxis points on cloak
reorganise inventory

8
deploy pistol before entering police station

9
this segment is hard
fire bullet to skip dialogue at start
careful sprinting and cloaking means I can avoid any alarm being sounded
fire another bullet in the morgue room to skip more dialogue
catching lift to avoid police, possibly faster than stairs, I haven't timed this

10
use energy refill before you leave so you have full cloak for next segment

13
got a bunch of machine gun ammo from room
the armor-piercing pistol mod is useful later in the game, but might be better off just using magnum and skip opening the tv altogether

15
basically run through, haven't worked out best cloak timings here yet
grab pistol ammo from guys while waiting for your limo

16
grab some machine gun ammo
jumping down truck allows you to avoid most of fire, but there might be a faster way to get to the elevator (moving along the balcony thing is also regenning my cloak)
after elevator, going along the left makes avoiding the robot a lot less random, and also gives you ammo
two guys with revolvers could probably die faster, and idk if picking up their ammo is worth stopping
boss fight: I have no idea how fast you can do fights like this with minimal equipment

FUCK I THINK I AM MISSING A SECTION HERE
ANYWAY I TALKED TO SARIF AND GOT THE HIGH JUMP ABILITY

17
grab the TYM keycard immediately, "just thinking ahead"

19
jumping up ladders to climb them faster
you might be able to do the elevator shaft faster by not riding up the elevator, not sure

20
careful cloak/sprint timing so you aren't discovered hacking the computer, notice I grab the nuke soft before starting to hack the first node slightly faster
I should check around there for more nuke softs because they will be useful later

22
spend next 2 praxis points on toxic gas immunity, to skip tong's long dialogue sequence in the hive

24
there might be a faster way to the pods, I haven't looked into that yet

27
basically avoiding enemies as much as possible

28
jumping along the showers on the left is hard :~
it's much better to kill the 2 enemies here (hence why I got the pistol mod behind the tv) and save cloak for the next enemies who are stronger and there's less cover

30
fucked up the hack a bit, not a big deal
bribe the guard 500 credits

31
cloak timings aren't too tricky here
I fucked up at the end coz I kept pulling out random guns so I couldn't sprint up the stairs

33
spend praxis point on being able to move heavy shit so you can jump onto the balcony
use candy bar so you don't set off any alarms (I was a bit late on that for some reason)

34
upgrade sprint speed

36
run across to other side of room without cloaking (need it later)
free room in inventory for rocket launcher, kill one bot (make sure to pick up what you dropped afterwards)
retrieve EMP from drawer and immediately press button when the bot dies
talk to faridah and grab typhoon ammo from the locker

37
upgrade cloak to max + get battery recharge speed

38
basically just careful cloak timings
if I had extra candy bars here I could probably skip going through the air vent

39
fuck this segment
no seriously

40
cap the two dudes and then sit around for forever

41
fucked up picking up the box lol
use an energy refill after the EMP mines because it's useful toi have, especially if you activated the patrolling bot
grab typhoon upgrade + heavy rifle before the boss fight

42
this boss can be killed much faster with the more powerful typhoon

43
I am slow at inventory

45
not entirely sure if this is the fastest way to go

46/47
nothing special, I think this is the fastest route but have yet to test other possibilities

48
derped but it doesn't matter because you can't leave until transmission is over (might be faster to accept his mission but haven't tested that yet)

49
fire a bullet to skip dialogue
use a typhoon to open wall (I don't think I can have punch through walls ability here but look into it, might be faster)
sewers section could be faster if I don't go through crawlspaces\

51
make sure this is the fastest route back to hotel

54
bastards ambushed us pritchard

55
could possible fire a bullet in the streets here to avoid dialogue

58
derp, at the end here I forgot where the door was

60
upgrade punch through walls and extra battery to get through the wall immediately

61
grab battery recharge rate upgrade here, it's quite useful, alternatively I could use an energy recharge, there's a bit of waiting around for it to completely recharge
I don't yet know what the most efficient route to find all three scientists is yet, but this is pretty fast as far as I can tell

62
max out typhoon for boss fight, heavy rifle wasn't actually necessary

65
shoot emp mines so I can pick up heavy crate as soon as I get to it rather than having to wait (I couldn't work out a way to jump past that without the electricity killing me)

66/67
I really wish there was a way to skip this faggot's dialogue, I haven't yet worked out the shortest dialogue path

-from here on my paths are pretty sub optimal, but it's fairly linear for the most part so it's just a matter of practicing-

68
I forgot to shoot darrow in the face on the way out
I fucked up running away from the zombies a bit here

69
that bridge is the reason I kept the assault rifle for most of the game

70
I don't know the fastest way to beat this boss
I should have switched out weapons instead of reloading the heavy rifle at the end

Amoirealinge - You mean to tell me you missed the marathon? It was on the front page of SDA =[

I got maybe like 5 deaths but still managed to clear 1:50 on PS3. One of the developers also donated during the run.

I most certainly asked for this. =D

I'm going to record an SS run at some point, and I'll try to make it clear 1:40... That seems to be the threshold on PS3. I'd need to optimize it a lot though, because menus take up a lot of time.

My route is very simple. First thing to note is, I pick up EVERYTHING in my way that restores my energy cells. Invisibility is king, because I need those Ghost Bonuses. Where it is actually faster to be seen, I dunno, but there are such places.

Get the Stun Gun
Take out the first guard and take everything he has
Pick up everything from the dead hacker
Take out the guard who runs to the left and pick up every thing he has.
Take out Zeke and pick up everything he has.
By the time I reach Detroit, I'll have 2 praxis. I get Enhanced Jumping.
Pick up the sniper rifle in the air vent above the gas station.
Sell everything weapon-related to Grayson. That includes my stun gun. I'll get a mine template from him.
At the LIMB Clinic, I get two more praxis, a Hypostim, and two Cyberprotein Jugs. I buy Faster Running while the game autosaves.
Go through the basement, get the brain chip. Also, pick up the handgun in the locker during the dialogue with Sarif immediately afterward, then the second I gain the praxis point, pick up Active Camo.
I pick up the mines and grenades in the DRB territory. I combine the mine templates when I get the praxis for Active Camo Lv2.
I get Active Camo Lv3 in the FEMA camp.
For marathon purposes, I get the faster recharge first, then the rebreather + longer sprint upgrades. In a recorded run, I'd do the opposite. I kill Bobby Bao with the handgun for an extra praxis.

One thing I know I could probably do faster is grab the ladder after jumping off the hotel with the TYM card and running to the 1800 Gate instead of going the long way around to Van Bruggen's apartment.

When I get to Van Bruggen, I give him the extra handgun I have in my inventory for the 2000 credits toward Cyberprotein Jugs later.

I get the mines in the Alice Garden Pods.

When I get the recharge + sprint upgrades, I get 2 energy cell upgrades to max it out at 4 at picus to make my jug use more efficient.

I need Lift Heavy Objects before the shipyard, and Punch Through Walls before Omega Ranch.

I get the Laser Gun after talking to Tong.

I need the CASIE Implant before the negotiation sequence with Darrow. I use Charm pheremones to cut off the conversation and save two minutes.

5 Frag Mines on Barrett, 5 Frag Mines on Fedorova, Punch Namir, Laser Zhao.

The save system works differently on console versions, so unfortunately, recording a test run is out of the question.
(new acc. drMalcom)
Ah yes, I missed it Sad . Is that part of "AGDQ" ? I saw they uploaded some new videos on youtube. And a developer donated ? Wow that's a huge win right there, congrats ! Are you planning an official run ? I'd enjoy watching that.
Yeah, it was part of AGDQ.

I want to get your input and maybe make some final revisions before I submit a run... That'll have to wait until the video comes out on the SDA main page, I want to take a break from the game until then.

It seems that if Dermal Plating could absorb a lot of shots, I'd favor using that over camo in some spots, because it would save me some extra trips to LIMB and some menu time. Unfortunately, in doing so, alarms would be nonstop and I'd deal with some really random guard AI. There's some places where I REALLY need the guards to cooperate.

I hope they will upload the video, it is always nice to see new DXHR runs. It's been a while since I've played DXHR, so I will have to launch the game and maybe try some new routes. Hopefully I will have some time for that this week-end. I don't have the augmented edition, so maybe a few things will be different (I believe it's easier to collect money for the kits when playing the aug edition). Right now, the only thing I can think of is about the route to the morgue. I used the debug menu to make me take no damage and lose no stamina. Using the camo and running straight to the basement is 2 seconds faster than getting the leg aug and going in the sewer (again, *if* you can continuously run and of course not die). But it is also way more risky, the sewer is definitely more consistent for a SS.
What do you need the DRB grenades for ? The fight with Fedorova ? For the fight with Barrett of course you can defuse the mines on the wall, which is about 10 seconds faster than how I did it (with the rocket launcher).
Hey, I've been speed running this game for about 5 days now, I now have a consistent build to use on the hardest difficulty. At this point I just have to memorise a bunch of codes instead of hacking and optimise some of my paths. I read through the thread and I have a couple of questions:

First of all the only dialogue that can't be skipped is hugh darrel, what's the fastest first couple of dialogue options? I read earlier that getting the CASIE mod and using "charm" is the fastest way to finish off that part.
Is there a password to IM A PSYUCHAISTRST MR DJENTSON guys computer?
What are your thoughts on a SS vs multiple segment runs? I am doing a multiple segment but am trying to slowly remove random guard patterns being a problem by doing things slightly differently.
The funicular is ANNOYING. Is there any way to at least glitch yourself into the damn thing? (I read that it's actually sitting there for the entire time you're waiting for it to come up)
My Barret kill is really slow. I do essentially the same thing as in the run I posted above except I use the 2 grenades in the DRB stash.
In my run I go through the police station.. is the sewer path really faster? Because it took me ages to work out the cloak/sprint timings t.t
Edit history:
Carcinogen: 2012-01-26 09:10:41 am
amoirealinge - I don't run augmented edition either, but the extras change the game tremendously. You get 10000 extra credits, so you can completely avoid picking up things at the Sarif Plant to get praxis. I defuse the mines on the wall, yes, but that's four mines in both DRB and Alice Garden. You need five for the Barrett and Fedorova quick kills. I went through the basement to get in and out, and I always survive the drops by about 4 HP...

For an SS run though, I would definitely consider going straight to the basement by running through the police station, even though it's not consistent, because fastest is fastest. Going through the sewer is for my cool party trick/marathon route.

Though, would that mean I skip the LIMB praxis kits? I get Faster Running first the way I work my praxis build.

tijit - read the thread from the beginning. With the SS route I outlined a few posts ago, I mostly use Cloak and none of the guards are a problem. Amoirealinge also posted a segmented PC route that came out to something like 1:12.

Darrow's dialogue options are completely random, I haven't timed any of it, but if you can figure it out, be my guest.

I'm pretty sure the timing for the PC version completely disregards load times. I'm playing my run on PS3 because it's less annoying to time.

For Barrett, I didn't watch your run since my internet is really slow lately, but you need the frag mines in DRB territory. If you crouch and hold CTRL (Walk) you'll move slowly enough to defuse them. You'll throw the grenade, duck behind until the grenade explodes, then hotkey over to frag mines and throw four of them. He'll be stunlocked and die really really fast. Same with Fedorova. Namir can be killed by using a takedown while he jumps over a wall, and Zhao will fall in under 7 seconds if you use the Laser Cannon. This is all on Give Me Deus Ex, btw.

Also, merry christmas.

@tijit: You will find some of the answers in this thread, including all the keycodes and passwords that I posted somewhere in here. The police station is faster but for a segmented run I believe the sewer is better because you'd have the leg aug for the rest of the run. For a segmented run you should really do the boost jumps, I didn't see them in your video (they are major shortcuts. See my videos).

@Carcinogen
- Sorry, I meant to ask: are you taking the hidden grenade(s?) in DRB, the ones that are under the destroyed concrete platform ?
- I've timed all the convos with Darrow, and yes it was a pain. This is what I wrote in one of my youtube videos
Quote:
Fastest way to end the convo is Critique, Critique, Charm. Appease takes 1 extra sec. If you go with Appeal, Critique, Charm then it takes 9 extra sec. Everything else is over 3 min.

- My total time was about 1:17, excluding loading times
- In a segmented run, you'd only need those 10k$ for the kits. You don't ever need money again after that point (so you wouldn't need to give your gun to Van Bruggen)
- You are killing Bobby Bao with the hand gun ? That means you only have half a second to get out of the Hive before everyone start shooting at you. Sounds risky.
Edit: btw, what is your strategy in the Dock ? Are you jumping over the container ship with water and electricity ? That jump is tricky Smiley

Amoirealinge - yes, I take the hidden grenades, because I take the sewer path through DRB territory. It's faster on console for sure because you need less invincibility to cloak through the area, and therefore fewer trips to the stupid Inventory Wheel to use candy bars.

I kill the bouncer with a handgun, and I kill Bobby Bao with the handgun too... It's actually not that risky, because I can cloak right out of there. As long as I don't bump into any guards, it's fine. Sometimes the game has a tendency to auto-save there too, so I have to hit start and buffer it while it pauses.

I want to say that I wouldn't need money for the rest of the run, maybe I won't if I can find out where I can consistently power through areas without invisibility, but it's REALLY hard... I need invisibility for that stuff. That's why I give the handgun to Van Bruggen for the extra $2k. You get the handgun during Sarif's dialogue after getting the Brain Chip (You can't exit until that is finished), it's only a few frames of mashing Confirm and holding Right to give Van Bruggen the handgun, and a dialogue on the elevator to Zhao's office; virtually no time cost.

For the dock, I take the long way and lift the box. Jumping the dock with a hypostim is nigh impossible. Vunik used a route that used EMP shield to avoid electric shock, but my praxis build doesn't allow for me to get it, I'm pretty sure...

EDIT: Perhaps I should try a route that uses Dermal Shielding instead of getting the Energy Recharge/Capacity Upgrades and see what it does. That will also let me take advantage of EMP shield to jump the shipping container. I won't get nearly as many ghost bonuses, so my overall praxis stock will probably suffer. Perhaps if I gathered data on EXP gained for completing objectives, I can figure out how many extra praxis the ghost bonuses would net me... Although I can also take advantage of hidden praxis points. Hrm. Planning around not opening my inventory is a little tough.
(new acc. drMalcom)
In one of his run (on his stream channel), Vunik jumped over the container with ease. That was very nicely done and impressive, maybe he has a technique for that. Well, really, he had to make that jump twice, because the first time he forgot to use the hypostim and died :p

I've never used the shield. According to the wiki, lvl1 reduces damage by 15%.
Note that 15% damage reduction equates to you having about 117 hit points. However, faster cloak regen is so useful in some areas I fail to see how this would be worth it.
I'll keep faster cloak regen, definitely. I need that much, at least. However, I want to figure out how to consistently get through areas without having the extra energy from visiting LIMB clinics. It also eats up a LOT of time to go into my inventory to use those energy refills since I'm on console.

I want to figure out whether it's beneficial to pick up the extra praxis vs. ghost bonuses, since being careful = time lost + extra inventory trips. This game is proving really hard to route out.
