Be careful for nothing;
I havent even beaten the game yet and I can't stop thinking about the pontential this game offers.  It has to be right there with Doom 3.  I know it's only been out for two days but, I feel it will make for one hell of a run.  This is the type of game you can watch someone run and never had played it your self.  The weapons upgrade adds a nice touch as well has the body suit.

After I have beaten the game I will decide if I will attempt this.  I have one other run goin on (Silent Hill 5) but, I'm in the final stages of completing it and have no problem jumping straight into another game.
Thread title:
And when the run comes out, turn off the lights, turn up the sound, and just watch, it would be the scariest shit ever Grin
A run on this would be amazing. I would love to see an impossible run.
Be careful for nothing;
So I beat the game today and I've decided that I will work on this run, but not be dedicated.  So if anyone does Attempt this run I will be right here to try and help... Maybe I will take it seriously, but this game needs to be run on the PC.  I have it on PS3. Sad

with the PC version you could probably do it fairly easy and definitly Faster.

Any who... I would love to see a Impossible, Plasma Cutter only run.  That would be sick.  Maybe to really screw with it.  Make it a 100% as well.  All audio messages, text messages, suits and schimatics. (you don't have to buy the weapons just have them availible to you)  If some one did a run like that I would pay to see it... dead serious on that.
I want off the ride....
been messing around a bit; only have been using 4 of the weapons. I donno if i like the ripper, at times the saw goes TOO far and i can't chop legs then arms, le sigh. Anyway other than that, it seems like the pulse rifle has a really quick easy upgrade scheme. (Got mine fully upped @ chap 7). I am worried about missing things and have been pacing through it as slowly as possible. My money counter has been going up and up.

This run seems like it would take a while to plan. between the randomnenss of the boxes and the drops of the enemys. I mean; I used to get pulse ammo like butter, now I can't find it to save my life.

Storage use would be soo important in this run, and the plasma cutter just is too badass of a weapon to not keep. I donno what the set of 4 would be for the speed run.

Anything related to this game would be cool. But first before its speed run, gotta be able to no death each chapter.... I dont see that happening....

Side Note: Anyone who has played it, feel like the asteroid shooting sequence was a little wonky? I had to do it 4 times cause I couldn't hit asteroids period. but my accuracy in the game is well over 85%!
We need RE4 runners to do this run! The gameplay is ridiculously similar to RE4, having the same perspective, laser guiding system, and the upgrade buying system is like the merchant.

interesting... but it looks to fruity.
A run on this would be one of the more entertaining ones to watch. Seeing someone expertly dismember limbs and such. The atmosphere is so great in this game. I had the same feeling after I beat RE4. I said to myself out loud, "Great now all other games are ruined for me". I got over that but you know what I mean.
I don't know if I'll buy this game but if yes, I will cetainly make a run Smiley
RaneofSOTN I agree with you about the shooting sequence it is ridiculous how hard it is to shoot those dam asteroids. Angry
So my final playtime on my first Impossible run was 7:15, and I wasn't even rushing or anything.

I can imagine that a planned, serious run would be something along the lines of 5-6 hours.

I for see it being shorter than 5-6 hours.. I see it more in the 3-4 hour mark.  I've been playin on Hard (not impossible) and have managed to simple run past 90% of my enemies... so unless the leap from Hard to impossible is Exceptionally drastic I think it shouldnt take much

the choice is yours. but i would always start at the normal difficult or whatever they call it.
aw crikey!
An Impossible run would be quite vicious, as the game starts throwing a lot of required encounters at you towards the end - but I'm sure it's possible. Since the game uses RE4-style adaptive loot drops, you should be able to run past / Stasis most enemies, then open chests for health during the copious story sequences.

As far as weaponry goes, the Line Gun and Force Gun are great for knocking enemies down with one shot, then running right past them. (The Line Gun's mine is also excellent for the Regenerator boss fights.)
I want off the ride....
If you did a run of this game

the weapons to take are
Line Gun; Plasma Cutter; Force gun and then your choice of Pulse Rilfe (Meh) and Contact laser.

The laser makes short work of any tentacles, and just rapes the final bosses pieces to bits.

I mean all in all; your going to use the plasma cutter a lot. line gun for enemies that are stubborn to cut, or line up nicely.
Force gun 2nd shot or Line Gun 2nd gun to take out the wall biotches. Then you really just have to think. Do you need to fire fast and sorta accurately? Or can you handle a charge for a @*$( *&@% ton of damage?
FF8 & FF12.. Long awaited runs.
All i'd use was the Plasma Cutter and the Contact Beam.

Plasma Cutter when upgraded demolishes anything in two shots. Plenty of ammo. Contact Beam destroys and of the yellow bulbs on boss fights in one hit with no upgrades.

If you are going to do a Speed run for Dead Space, I would advise to use the PC version.
I play on the PC and I find it easier to use a Xbox360 (For Windows) Controller. However, at the asteroid scene, I found it MUCH easier to swap over to my Mouse+Keyboard for that scene only. The only problem with using the keyboard for the rest of the game is that the controls are MUCH more spread out unlike the gaming pads.
I don't know, I guess I like having everything close together.

I would like to see this speed run as well. It would be interesting to see other ways of fighting, since you can kill things without even using ammo in this game.
:(
Sounds like I'm gonna have to get this game Smiley
Choosing what to upgrade would probably be the hardest decision to make during the run. The only real difficult sections would be the ones where the quarantine lock takes place. You can easily run past the majority of the enemies in the game, and it's kind of hard to get lost. I'd love to see someone run hard or impossible. Medium (normal?) is a cakewalk and very difficult to die in.

The plasma cutter is amazing when you start upgrading it. By the end of the game it was my main weapon.

I didn't pay attention to the way ammo was dispersed, but, is it done by the specific guns you have, or, is it exactly like RE4, in the sense that you could find tmp ammo when you didn't have the gun?

I AM FUCKED ANGRY
This is one of the best games for this year. I have yesterday played this game on my PC and it makes really fun. Far Cry 2 is bullshit ! Dead Space is a game with a great atmosphere and the action is great. I must play this game to the end and I can help with plan routes.

On my first playthrough, I purchased every weapon in the store but ultimately ran around with the Force Gun, Line Rifle, Plasma Cutter and the Ripper.  Over the course of the game, I'd say the vast, vast, vast, vast, vast majority of the time, it's always what you had equipped (I did get a few Pulse Rifle rounds once or twice, but I'm not sure if they were part of a Power-Node locked room, scattered about the environment or an enemy drop.

And of the drops I did get, the vast majority of those were Ripper blades.  Eesh, I had at least 18 stacks after my normal playthrough sitting in my safe.

If you run it on the PC version there's only one weapon you will need once you get it, pulse rifle. If you have any kind of mouse skills no weapon in the game can beat the pulse rifle when it comes to mow down enemies quickly, all other weapons are worthless. And no, I won't run this game because I think it sucks big hairy balls Tongue
OldschoolgamerZ, I actually just created this account to correct you on something - RE4 ammo. It both is and isn't based on what guns you're carrying at any given time; there's a lot of ammo that's pre-programmed into the game (in some boxes, lying around, etc) that will always be one specific type. Thus the much despised TMP ammo. Ammo that enemies randomly drop, however, IS based on what you're carrying.

That's the impression I was under, at least.

Well, I can verify that you will only find ammo for the guns you're carrying. So the less guns you carry the more ammo you will get for that specific gun(s) you want to use for your run. If I was doing this run on console (where you don't have the advantage of mouse aiming), I would stick to a 2-weapon setup.
FF8 & FF12.. Long awaited runs.

Try a Line Cutter with 2 upgrades to damage. Takes a brute out in two shots. Even a fully upgraded Pulse Rifle can't do that.
