This first post is now dedicated to detailing the nuances of the scoring system in the hope that someone else can finish off the IL table, I'm not going to be able to complete all ten levels before leaving for MAGfest. I've posted a bounty for their completion... get going!

There are seven main areas in which to build up points: completing challenges, enemies, completing blocks of buildings, "chaining" buildings, chaining sets of Graydians, transform engines, and miscellaneous sources of points.

CHALLENGES
Challenges are worth 3125 points on completion. This appears to apply to all challenge types (brown, blue, green, orange).
For brown challenges, you also have to paint a "landmark" with a certain amount of points of one colour. These appear to be scored at 50 x the number of paint points (so a 30 point landmark is 1500, 50 point is 2500, etc).

CHAINING
The chain system is pretty simple: whatever type of chain you're working on (buildings, enemies or Graydians), you get an additional multiplier if you can link another one in a short space of time. For buildings in particular, this means that you have to reach another building before Blob reaches the ground. The multiplier increases linearly and caps at 8. The multiplier will stay at x8 for as long as it can be maintained, but will not exceed it.
Chains cannot be mixed. You can chain different types of enemies at once, but if you are collecting a set of Graydians and then attack an enemy, for example, the Graydian chain stops and a new enemy chain starts.

ENEMIES
The points enemies give are shown on screen. Most enemies give 50, but Leechbots give only 25, for example. These chain in the same way as other items chain: the multiplier will never exceed 8, but you can continue to get x8 for as long as you can continue it.
Enemies also cost a certain amount of paint points to kill, basic enemies are worth 1, coloured enemies are worth 4 of a specific colour, Heavy Inkies are 10, turrets are 50, and the Ink Tank takes the whole complement of 100.

BUILDINGS
You get 100 points for painting a building, plus the usual multiplier for as long as you stay off the ground.
Block bonuses are easy, they're displayed on screen. The total is 100 x number of buildings x number of colours used, so more colours is better (note that invincibility mode switches you between colours so this is a really good time to build this up!)
One thing that is kind of related to this is that it is possible to increase the amount of points you get from a block, even after it's been completed. If you take an additional colour to an already completed block, you'll get a bonus equal to the value of the block (you'll see it on the right of screen). This also breaks other types of combos, and explains an odd case where I had spotted large bonuses in the middle of collecting Graydians.
Invincibility (as dispensed from the "paint tankers") actually goes through all seven colours in a set order - it cycles through in the order green, blue, purple, red, orange, yellow, brown. Because of the timing of the colour changes, it is actually possible to double up on chains, eg. if you jump onto a building at green, you get 100, then 10x2 when it changes to blue, then 100x3 on the next building.

GRAYDIANS
Graydians give 50 for the first one, then they can chain if you are quick in getting them all (again, up to 8). There's no difference between Graydians that hang around loosely in some levels and those which are dispensed from completed buildings, and they can all be chained at once, but as stated above, painting a building a different colour will break the chain.

TRANSFORMS
Don't give any solid amount, instead it's based on the cumulative total of all the painting that it does automatically for you. This figure generally works out somewhere in the 2-3k range, but most importantly, it's "free" points - during the animation the timer is not running, so it's a few thousand points for no time cost.

MISCELLANEOUS
Billboards are worth 500 points each, and cannot be chained. There are also items composed of red, yellow and blue strokes, which are worth 1000 points each. These can be worth collecting if the detour is small, but there typically tends to be more points in chaining.

Just as a quick point of comparison, for route planning:
4-building combo: 1000
8-building combo: 3600
8-Graydian combo: 1800
16-Graydian combo: 5000
Challenge: 3125
Energy item: 1000

Rue, rue, rue the day...
I was thinking of putting in a request for a de Blob run, it's good to see I'm not alone in wanting to see it run.

I'll try to help with figuring things out, but I don't think I'd be able to run it myself (best time on Last Resort is about the 5-minute mark).

I think the minigames would go in a seperate table. And what about awards? All bar the Time award can theoretically be gotten in a single runthrough, so would there be a table for high% using these as the goal?

On the points, can billboards be used as part of chains? I remember them being worth 500, but does this get multiplied?
rawr
I was shocked at how much I got hooked on this game when I rented it.  It was Wii Crack.

I'd definitely be interested in watching a run of this game.  IL for sure.

Thinking about putting up a run of the first level today. Stay tuned!
I just played the PC freeware version of this game. Are there any major gameplay differences?

I've since got 2:43, but I botched the ending on that. I think it can still go to about 2:35. I dunno if the remainder of the levels will have the same level of awesomeness as this though :/

No, they don't. Things that do get a chain multiplier include: buildings, Graydians and enemies.

EDIT: 2:32 Last Resort, which I estimate is within a couple of seconds of optimal using my route.

Last Resort - 2:32

Yeah, it still wasn't perfect, but I can't really expect anything better, and I want to run some of the other levels too Tongue

Uptown - 5:47

Watch for the hilarious attempt to scrounge up the few remaining points to 90000 (and then getting there with 22 points to spare!).

Downtown - 8:35

I don't really like this run, but I also don't really like this level, and this was way better than any of my previous attempts.

Just finished up a route for the fourth level now (Chroma Dam), it's really simple as long as I don't get screwed over by the ending. There's pistons that can block your Z-jumps which can knock you right back to the bottom. And land you in ink to boot. Not cool.

EDIT: 7:27 Chroma Dam, will get to that one when this one is done.

Rue, rue, rue the day...
Good stuff thus far, keep it up!

One (very) minor point though. After hitting a landmark, when Blob drops out, you can Z-target and hit a nearby enemy, which could save a couple of seconds (for example, dropping out of the police station at about 2.30 in your Uptown video, you could have locked onto the paintbot and hit it before Blob's celebration).

6:54 Chroma Dam! Vid will be forthcoming whenever anri-chan is done with the third level Tongue EDIT: link for this one too.

Correct, but in the time between being pushed out of the landmark and Blob's celebration, the timer is still ticking, so it doesn't matter at which point you do that.

5:32 Guggentraz Island!

I think this is my best one so far. The strat was pretty simple so I put a fair amount of effort into really nailing it.

First post edited to add notes on the scoring system, and the bounty in place for the completion of the remainder of the levels.
Waiting hurts my soul...
I'm considering running this. Playing through currently. Hoping to get at least some of the bounty. Would the IL table just be for the main levels or also the challenge levels?

One thing I noticed is I was able to launch myself a good height by attempting to slam on something (z-target + shake), ended up hitting a tree, and bounced fairly high. I'm not sure how useful it might be, but something to keep in mind.
SEGA Junkie
Hm, I don't believe the challenge levels would be necessary for an IL table. They could perhaps be a separate one?

Last time I tried to get back into this game I couldn't beat 2:45 on the first stage, so I'm probably not going to pick it up again. I'd definitely like to see it get done though!
Exoray
Are the challenge levels required to beat the main game? If yes then they are needed. If no, then they would be a separate table.
SEGA Junkie
They're not. Thanks for clearing that up!

Waiting hurts my soul...
That makes sense moooh, thanks.

I was doing attempts on Last Resort without looking at your video again (had your general route down), and only got it down to 4:03. So I checked out your video again, and I was doing a lot of challenges you weren't, so that was probably slowing me down quite a bit. I need to work on chaining buildings it looks like since that's where most of your points are coming from.
-_-
I know I'm a few years late to the party but is anyone still doing this game? : )
I'm considering the game. I'm a single-segment runner, but I haven't played the game almost since it came out, I'll need to find some time to practice it first.
SEGA Junkie
I can't tell you how happy this makes me. Smiley

Worth noting that the original posts were from five (!) years ago, and now that people use real time almost exclusively, strategies probably change a little bit. For example, Transform engines were free points in game time runs, I suspect they would be far less useful in a real time run.
Darn, 8:52 on my first try of Last Resort, picking up this game after not playing for 3 years xD. It was completely blind, did no challenges cause I remember losing time on some of them when I first played, but I suppose that some are faster than just painting the blocks and Graydians. I'll look into the level closer when I get more time.
SEGA Junkie
Oh, since those above links don't work any more (yay, US Department of Justice!), here's the video of my old Last Resort time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rUzuqOTGDM

I put each of the first four stages up. For some reason I never did the same for the fifth...
-_-
I just got the game last Sunday.

I can get about ~4:30 in game time for Last Resort, still not great with jump control though, maybe have to tinker with the camera speed.

For game time, I think doing at least the first 2 Challenges on Last Resort is worth it, since you need 20,000 points anyways. I try to time it so I end up with around 18-19,000 points after doing the 2nd Challenge, then activate the transform in that section on the way to the gate.

I think my pathing is similar to mike89's but he is way better at chaining buildings
