-My character recruitment now does NOT include Milaine or Polly.  Polly is now an issue.

I would say get Polly.  Not only does it save you the headaches of luck manipulation, but it also gives you 20 Crunchy Breads which are full heals.  I'm sure you'll find some use for those.

That's all I can think of for the moment.

Yeah, I guess that's a good point -- I DO use those crunchy breads -- like the Rainbow Butterfly, even though I don't necessarily have to.

Hey, Tjp, I'm also doing some research on a segmented run for Dark Cloud 2.

Here's some of my notes:
If you want, I have the monster that drops the key in every level.....
Minimum Requirements for the Georamas.
Photos that would be beneficial/necessary.
I'm currently compiling research on the exact amount of materials/gilda needed for each georama(although if you can break down and rebuild, that would help with my research considerably)

Basically, you can judge my suggested Inventions:
Aquarium: Forced
Energy Pack: Forced
Energy Pack(Barrel): Easy to make, very early on.
(maybe)Knight Boots: Easy to make, cheap, available 2nd chapter, good for levelling up attack.
Bell Trigger: Forced
Roller Foot: Better than wasting exp on it in a later chapter.
(maybe)Wooden Box Body: Better Defense, cheap to make.
(maybe)Cleaner Pack: Adds more energy to ridepod, easy to get pictures
(maybe)Refrigerator Body: Better Defense, relatively good for when is able to be made.
Barrel Cannon III: Good attack, better than buying
Propeller Leg: Suggested: faster moment, etc.
Sun and Moon Armor: Better Defense, highly suggested.
Barrel Cannon IV: Easy to make, good for final boss.
Energy Pack(Urn): More fuel, less ridepod fuels needed.

You can both break parts down AND you can transfer common structures between georamas.  The most useful common structures are the buildings.  Do note you have to return to the Lighthouse after Heim Rada.

It's not even really suggested.  If you don't have it, you're pretty much dead, because either you'll be too slow to dodge or rooted in place while firing.

Also keep in mind that you want to get through the game with the least amount of stuff as possible, as long as out is faster to do so. This means my weapon will be the lowest possible and I will pick up the least amt of hp and defense items possible. Of course, I still need enough attack to kill the final boss in under 5 min...

I would recommend that we come up with separate strategies at first and then compare them. THEN we can collaborate.
Gimme some sugar Shaggy!
Well you don't HAVE to get as little as possible.... getting all the ones available with minimal Georama I think is a good idea.
#Casual
Correct, you don't HAVE to -- SPEED is what counts.  So, as such, there will be a balance.

So I'm guessing the fastest time for Chapter 1 is around 30 minutes.
Going to practice chapter 2 to in a bit today
#Casual
Good. I have been taking a break and playing SMB3. I'll be getting back to this some time soon.
I've read you can import a photo album from another save file and invent stuff way earlier than you typically are supposed to. Any thought given to using this and calling it a New Game+ run (sort of like FFX with the Al Bhed Primers)? You can make as much money as you need by inventing and selling the Turkey Spheda club - they cost 90 to make and sell for 230 apparently. Then you could save some of the time spent breaking down towns, taking pictures, building good weapons, etc. I'm not positive it would end up saving time... just a thought.
Gimme some sugar Shaggy!
I don't think that's allowed by SDA standards...

Also, gonna practice some more, maybe get a good time.
#Casual
Yeah, sorry on my side -- I've been spending more time on SMB3, but I DO plan on continuing this.  I'm still in the planning phase.

@bripint, I have no interest in making a Newgame+ run -- that's just me.
Gimme some sugar Shaggy!
I'm trying to get my Chapter 1 speed down a lot, I just got a better, more organized plan for CH1 and I'm down to 34 and a half minutes. I can definitely shave off some time without wasting time (I wasted at least a minute with the Photos(forgot to get the pipe)) and with better luck(Level 6 took me too long as the Vanguard with the key was extremely far away.)
#Casual
Gotta love those randomly generated levels.  Yeah.  You're doing segmented, or SS?

Segmented, Through Chapters.... don't have enough time to do it all in one sitting.

Also, I had a really good run going, but Halloween killed me, so I had to restart

Have now shaved it Chapter 1 down to 32 minutes(from beginning to first available save in Sindain)

I'm going to keep trying to get below 30 minutes for Chapter 1, that's my goal

Edit: FINALLY GOT BELOW 30 Minutes, got 29:21
Gimme some sugar Shaggy!
I've fully recorded chapter 1 in 12 parts about 1-7 minutes in length each.
See if I cant get them up here first

Okay, I've just discovered this game is a LOT more difficult to speed run than first anticipated

Chapter 1 is easy to speedrun, but after that it gets HARD

Max is completely useless if you dont level his weapons(which you shouldnt)

and there are certain enemy key droppers that are hard to kill with Monica(Tore, Tortoise)

Ridepod needs sufficient defense and health to stay alive. Like I'm discovering so many ofthe inventions I thought were good werent because they are so expensive to make like the SUn and Moon Armor, at least 8000 gilda. That's more expensive to make than any of the cities.

The MAIN problem is building the cities. They are so expensive to make, and if you save scum like I do, you barely make enough at all. Which is a problem if you want to make some inventions which are quite costly to make, but nearly required. and since the Ripepod will pretty be the only one fighting after chapter 2. This is a HUGE problem. If anyone could provide any assistance I would be much abliged.

I'm not an expert on this game or anything, but I watched a test run on it that went up to Chapter 3... and yeah, it's gonna take a lot of luck manipulation to earn enough gilda... Open any chests in your path, and if you don't get stuff worth a lot of money by the end, consider resetting. Once you've got enough, you can check to make sure at the end, and then sell what you need to really fast.

Also, have you been getting free bombs from Erik? Equip those to Monica and she can plow through Trees and Tortoises in one toss.

Finally, note that, for sindain at least, you do not NEED to complete it 100%; I made it through my first game not doing so until Chapter 6. I don't believe you need to complete the Weapon Shop or the Eatery... but the Golden Egg is needed for recruiting Parn. Still, that's 20% you'd have saved off materials, not to mention you no longer need to build up Monica's weapon to recruit Milane. But if the Weapon Shop is actually needed, feel free to yell at me.

But yeah, that's my two cents. Hope it helps. XD

My advice:

####1.  Recording time is NOT NOW!  It's months down the line.

2. Open up a spreadsheet and track times/items/gilda/weapons/photos/etc.
3. Find out the minimum to build/characters to place to satisfy each Chapter.
4. Right now is the experimentation stage.  Just get through the game with a general plan and then refine from there.
5. It will take MANY MANY iterations of this to find out what you'll need to get through the game quickly, using the right balance of items/Ridepod/Max/Monica.

6. Collaborate!  Right now I'm in hiatus.  Once I get far enough in my other projects (DKC, SMB3) then I will join you and make this SOMEWHAT less of a headache.  Rakuen is also savvy with the game, too.

Well Chapter 1 is going to be pretty much the save every time, with the exception of if you get chests or not, and what pictures you take.

But yeah, I'm going to try things out because it gets hard when you need that gilda

At first I didn't think this game was so money oriented, until I started speedrunning
Ill post any findings that I deem worthwhile
Well, I'd still be quite interested in what you have so far, if you're willing to post Chapter 1. Smiley
Yay necrobump.

This game is too amazing to not have a run, so I have recently started looking into strategy and route planning for the game. After a little bit of testing I have come up with a decent plan to make a Supernova(Best gun) that can kill all of the final bosses fairly quickly. I managed to Beat Dark Element in a little over 2 minutes with it and I am super rusty.

Use Gerald
Kill all mobs with Ridepod and pick up ABS with Max

Steal Gun +2 1720 ABS

Heavy Hammer +5 N/A ABS*
27 Scraps
5 Cloth

Synth to Steal Gun

Soul Breaker x2 10560 ABS
19 Cloth Each

Synth to Steal Gun

Synth Moon Stone to Steal Gun

Supernova

*You get the ABS for the hammer while leveling the guns

12,280 ABS Total

All the MFP dungeon floors have 3500-4000 ABS in them and you get all these weapons in Chapter 5, so getting this much ABS while only getting gate keys should be pretty feasible. The biggest problem with this is inventing the Steal Gun. It requires a Bandit Coin to make and the only ways to get one is Spheda on 5-5 or manipulating it from a chest. Speaking of manipulating items, Stamina Drinks would probably help a ton for the Final bosses.

Go for it, Man.  This is on the backburner for me.  I'll look into your progress once who have some trial runs...  Have fun!
Hey guys, from what I remember, the gun you get from 100%ing Sindain is insane at the lower levels, and even into the upper ones. I wonder if it would be worth taking the time to nab it?

Alright worked a bit more on this today. Probably wont be doing a whole lot until things slow down with SWTOR, but i have a rough route for chapter 2 figured out. Right now Im just doing the bare minimum for the chapter, like only getting Gorden and Adel when I go recruiting, and I'll add on to that with each chapter. Only things I have really planned ahead so far is inventing the Aquarium at the same time as the energy pack, Manipulating a coin drop on 2-3, and getting 2 fishies in the swamp. Right now money is pretty easy, If I manipulate 250g worth of stuff from chests each floor I can rebuild Sindain, but of course I expect it to get a lot worse.

Looking at Weapons. If I remember right the Jurak Gun only does well in chapter 3, which could still be useful depending on what weapons I have available for Steve at that point. So far the Cannonball Arm is more than sufficient for Chapter 2 and I invent a Barrel Cannon right before the Butterfly fight to make that easier. I seem to remember the Barrel Cannon being good in Chapter 3.. guess we'll see.

Heres what I have so far..

Some notes..
I think 3ish floors a segment is pretty reasonable for manipulation.
After Linda I get all gate keys by running up to mobs with Max switching to Steve, killing them, then switching back.
I forgot how much the badge costs and I didn't collect the money to build Sindain in the last test, should be no problems though. I'll be starting another test that clears the chapter soon.
I was looking at some endgame weapons and Barrel Cannon IV also requires a Coin. This makes me very very sad.

Edit: Testing Ridepod damage today.
3:All gatekeepers are easy except Dragons with the Barrel Cannon. Dragons take about 7 shots
4:Most enemies seem to take 4-5 shots with the Cannons. Medusa is 6 shots. Neo Vanguard is like 9 shots, 4 with Samurai.
O Captain! My Captain!
Wanna do a recording of these segments so we can see how you're going?

Thats just me saying that I want to watch a dark cloud 2 speedrun ^_^
