Im making a single-seg run of Silent Storm and I plan to create a custom character to do the run.

Do I have to include the character creation process in the recording? And if so, can I record it once and then add it to the finished run afterwards and still have it counted as a single-segment run?

Most likely, yes.

I assume the reason why you're asking is because you don't want to go through character-creation every time again after a failed attempt.

The idea of single-segment is that you played in a single session. The char.-creation is probably a crucial part of the speedrun, so it cannot be separated from the actual speedrun. So you can't use the recording of a char.-creation that you did on day X and add it to a run you finished on day Y.

So I think.
I'd depend on the game though. Some games, like 3D Dot Game Heroes, have char creation separate from the actual game itself. Also, in many games the place the timer starts is after naming, etc. so I can imagine character creation happening before this.
And still other games allow you to 'prep' a save as it were, such as Super Metroid which allows to to skip the intro, but still be counted as a new game run.

So it'd all be situational.
.
If character creation is done in menus before gameplay starts, you are not required to redo it each time you run the game. See Diablo 2 for precedent on this.

However, if character creation takes place after timing starts, then it's more complicated to make a ruling on. Generally in this case the answer will be that you need to record it each time.
