1. Have your avi source files
2. Encode your source files into compressed, segmented videos
3. Submit videos to SDA.

That's a pretty typical process.

Decided to put up a quick guide for capturing and streaming simultaneously: http://www.thethrillness.com/2015/02/guide-live-stream-and-capture.html

Why do you recommend 720x480 for SD content?  Shouldn't it be scaled to 4:3 (on the Live and Preview tabs)?

Thanks for taking the time to make these guides, by the way.  I think having something that just says, "Do this," is helpful to a lot of people.

How much additional CPU power does recording + streaming take over just streaming?  I would theoretically like to do both, but my computer is so weak that streaming 720 x 480 SD is fairly taxing on it (high-action parts can trigger warning messages for high CPU usage), and streaming is a higher priority for me (I'd rather stream and interact with viewers live than record SDA-quality footage.)

sdfg, I'm not totally sure on how it all fits together quite yet due to stuff like square pixels, I'll see what blizzz says. From my understanding, 720x480 is correct though (top 2 posts on this page): http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=46689&start=240

Drifting Skies, yeah if streaming is taxing for your system then probably best not to pursue doing both. Like I guess you could try using faster encoding presets for streaming and you might be able to do it. Just depends how much you wanna sacrifice stream quality.

I see.  I get using 720x480 for capture.  I guess I prefer to fix the aspect ratio in Amarec, but you could also resize it in XSplit or OBS.  Didn't think of that.
Hey y'all, new to the whole "capturing/streaming" scene, was lookin' for some pointers?

I followed the guide to the letter, except that every single setting that I work with will yield one of two different results (and sometimes -- mostly -- both): I have no sound, and I get what I call the "Skinemax crawl".  The video is constantly skewed and rotating up the top of AmaRec (then up the bottom, over and over).  I'm thinking it's my Capture Card, the el-cheapo "Sabrent USB" that I picked up for 20 bucks.  (I'm guessing the answer to my problems is "you get what you pay for.")  Anywho, before I start dropping money on better capturing device(s), I am curious if there is any sort of fix or troubleshooting that could be done here?  I want to be *sure* it's the janky ol' Sabrent that is doing it, before I spend money I didn't NEED to spend.  Thanks, y'all.

If you're using splitters then try connecting the console directly to the device without splitters (could be a singla strength issue). If it still fails then yeah it's the capture device.
Naw, no splitters.  Just Red/Yellow/White from the console, into Red/Yellow/White on the capture-card, plugged into USB.  I'd make a video demonstrating all of this, but there really isn't much to show -- it's just "hey lookie, I can't get a solid signal".  I know the cords work (from the console) because I play the bleedin' thing on the TV, so....yeah.  You get what you pay for.  Duly noted.  Guess I'll be a-dazzlin' it up, here, eh?  (Also, apparently the local Best Buy can't seem to move them, so I could buy one for something around 60 bucks.  Good deal, no?)

Yeah $60 is a great deal.

Personally I would recommend getting the GV-USB2 which is superior to the Dazzle and would cost only ~42$ http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00428BF1Y
Got me a Dazzle, I'll be workin' with it later tonight, hopefully will be posting a demo of one of my upcoming runs for quality verification!  Thanks, y'all.
