Hey guys, currently im already running Metal gear Revengeance NG+ and planning to route the new Tomb Raider over the next couple of weeks.
But I was wondering, Are there any good co-op games out there that would be good to run? One of my friends lately after seeing me stream runs has become interested in speed running and I suggested we do a 2 player co-op run on something.
Ive already suggested Splinter Cell convictions co-op but was wondering if anyone else can name some good titles as my mind is just blank on the subject.

Cheers in advance.

RuKus.

Portal 2

I suggested that but I doubt either of us have the patience to learn it, but who knows maybe in the future you'll see a co-op speed run of it from me Smiley
Well yeah, Portal 2 is pretty skill-intensive, so I guess I understand why you cba to learn it.

I personally also enjoyed Lara Croft And The Guardian Of Light Coop. Then again, if a game has coop, it's probably fun to run, just because it's coop. If there's a game both of you have played/enjoy that also happens to have coop, go for that!
Guardian of Light is amazing for co-op because of all the co-op exclusive timesavers and because it's acutally designed to be mainly a co-op game. Not enough games require actual co-op to be beaten but that one definitely does.

Related to that, I'm also looking for a new co-op game to run. My GoL partner seems to be pretty done with the game so we could use something new.

super mario world would be a cool 2 player speedrun.  It'd be really cool to see how fast that game can be done with 2 amazing players (Dram and Menboo tag team?? <Kreygasm>)

edit: I should mention that yes, I'm serious. It's for PS2. My brother and I are intermittently working on a run of it.

Zombies Ate my neighbors, whos down?!!!!!
The artist formerly known as Qxy
Marathon Durandal (preferably on total carnage). The XBLA version is great for speedrunning. A friend of mine is 7th on the Coop leaderboards and wants to attempt a run of it someday, but he needs to find a partner.
The Loony Bin
A lot of the Natsume games are usually good to do co-op runs of. (ex. Pocky & Rocky, Wild Guns, Shadow of the Ninja)
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
I'm always down for any kind of Co-op speed run.  Granted I need to recall which ones I have (and get my gold account turned back on).

I think I can say Crackdown, N3 2, and a few others.

Perhaps even Farcry 3.

Is there a two-player gameplay variety that I have not heard of/that is not part of the PAL-SNES carts? The SMW I know can only be played alternatively …

That's what I mean.  Like the run would be so cool to see.  It'd be co-op but not simulataneously.

Not to be rude, but wouldn't a SMW Co-op speed run take longer since both Mario and Luigi have their own seperate markers and how one people can move in one location, the other is still left behind and would either move to the same location, if not the next spot afterwards?

Now granted that if we were to see either a co-op run that will see for completing all the routes on Co-op or even one person doing a co-op run with just himself, now that would be entertaining to watch.  I can imagine one player taking the regular route, while the other would take star road.
Not a walrus
They could take branching paths and clear the levels in a different order, but I'm not sure if that would end up being worth it in the end. Would be interesting to see the planning going into it, though.

IIRC Mario and Luigi in SMW 2-player mode are treated as two single players playing the game with alternate turns (one with a slight cosmetic difference). The only 'interaction' between the two worlds is the possibility of one giving the other his lives, but they still stay at different places on the map. If one game overs and hasn't yet cleared Iggy's castle, he has to start from Yoshi's house with only YI1 and YI2 accessable.
I'm pretty sure SMW 96-exit would be doable.  One person could do Star World and the other the normal route, each taking a branch.  Any% wouldn't work so well, obviously.

Mario 3 100% could benefit in the same way as SMW.  Borderlands is another obvious candidate, and iirc there's been some work towards a 4p run.  There are also the Halo games (although the tricks are skill-intensive).  Mario Kart could be done, even though there would be no real benefit to having an extra player (except maybe reducing the number of races the CPU wins through blue shell trolling).
Co-op should be cool. But for a speedrun, it can be pretty hard, motivation, skill level and strategy development must be top notch of both players, this makes it a cool challange tho.

For Snes, maybe secret of mana? (final fantasy 5,6. Dont know if they are fun playing as speedrun coop). Jurassic park 2, Kirby games, turtles in time (or any other sidescrolling fighter).

Or Wii games, maybe trauma centre series, or donkey kong returns(dont know if its fun speedrunning), that mario game.

Maybe a Ghost recon game? I dont know just naming something :P. Don't know which platform you want to play
NSMB Wii would really only benefit from a second player to get a few star coins and probably a bit with having the players have different powerups, and one player would be in a bubble most of the time.  Although it would be pretty cool to see four people destroy that level in World 3 where you normally have to ride a rotating platform the first time through (like in the video you unlock with star coins).

It would seem that my [/thread] wasn't taken very seriously Tongue

Also to the guy who recommended Trauma Center... I would watch the hell out of that run, especially if it's as good as the one we have on the site.

You guys are awesome! So many suggestions, well definately have to pick a game soon. And for those saying Tomb Raider GoL we where thinking that.
Both me and my mate have PC's, xbox 360's and Wii's (which we could crack to get hold of multiple copys of specific and hard to find games, Not sure if SDA allows that for times however, but still I dont think it would stop us from running them for fun Smiley ). He has a ps3 so split screen isnt out of the question. I dont think either of us have an snes or something that old, We would most likely have to use an emulator for older games.

One suggestion he had to run was one of the Army of Two games since its heavily co-op based.

Keep the suggestions coming guys, Im sure many people could be looking for games to run with friends :).

Also if we get enough interested in say a 3-4 player co-op im sure anyone here could help if they wanted Cheesy But while we wait to find a game we both want to run I will be practicing the New Tomb Raider, Ive allready made splits each about 20 mins apart and found the game takes around 3-4 hours without skips or exploits, So look out for my TR runs (mostly practice runs) in the next couple weeks at my twitch channel http://www.twitch.tv/imrukus .

And again you guys all rock!

You've got 360s, so there's Gears of War.  There's also Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed, which I found quite a lot easier to play when I had a couple buddies to snipe the CPU.
