I was thinking.  Is there any Contra3 speedruns?  I was thinking on making on but I lack the equipment  Sad
Perferably, I can beat Contra3 on easy pretty fast.  I could get it in around 12-15 minutes for all 6 levels on easy.  Of course, thats just an estimated amount of time.

Well, you can find one at:

http://bisqwit.iki.fi/jutut/nesvideos/movies.cgi?mode=list&systemid=2

However it's a tool assisted/cheated run, done with an emulator and all the tricks it allows you to use. But perhaps it gives you some idea of how fast the game can be done and some tricks that can be used.
Since I lack the equipment for recording a game off my SNES, I would also have to do an emulated speed run (although I know that you guys don't want to see any of those Tongue )

I play emulator Games myself especially those which weren't translated like Seiken Densetsu 3 and Bahamut Lagoon... but I never saw cheats in it. Except you enter them yourself I guess... and why cheating? If I want to cheat why do I even play? Makes no sense to me. Well Cheat or not emu or not. As long as it is done without any cheats I am interessted in speed runs Smiley

Well, the concept of their runs is not to cheat, or, well, it kinda is. Their concept is to make them absolutely perfect, without spending a lifetime on it. So they use the tricks the emulator gives you. Like slow motion and save states. In that way they can undo their mistakes until they got the perfect run. However, humans are not perfect, so even their runs can always be improved. They are not trying to show skill, it's just for entertainment. And I don't see a problem in that, cause they clearly say the runs are tool assisted/cheated on their site.

Some ppl hate them, some ppl like them, just like everything else in this world.
If I do submit a speed run, it'd have to be in the zsnes format of a demo since I'm not quite sure how to convert it to an AVI file.
Sorry for the double post, but of course, my demo will probally have alot of goofs, but some will be intentional... Smiley

Well I thought that emulator runs are not accepted in any way  Huh?
I'm addicted to games
They aren't
I meant, I wasn't going to officially submit it, just post it here.

Not happy with the rest factor in this run that I made... I was using Zsnes so make sure you have the rom and the emulator before viewing it.
(sorry for the dbl posting)

a run on easy with the maximum of lifes... not a very hard challenge you must admit ^^''
True, but seeing how I messed up all the time from being nervous (by recording myself); I kinda need it.....
Heres another kind of game type everyone can try out.  The "No Firing" speedrun.  Rules are:

  • No shooting common enemies
  • Only shoot when you need to  (get weapons, bombs, beserk, etc)
  • Can only kill stuff if it's needed to advance to the next segment of the level (ie: mini boss, etc)
  • Can use Bombs if your in serious trouble (monsters flooding the screen)
  • Perferably going on Easy mode with 7 rests because you'll need it Smiley
  • Only applies to level 3: Can kill those flying aliens that pick you up.  If you get picked up, kill them.

I've encountered a few problems like that sniper sitting on that pillar on level 3 and a few others.  This is pretty fun and challenging so I suggest you guys try it out.
Oh yeah Some other things
  • In level 4, you can kill those people on those bikes for easy extra guys but thats about all you can kill
  • Anything that seems useless that cannot kill you anymore, you can kill for extra points (ie: the lasers on the flying ship in level four)

That should be it.
