I have an idea. Instead of calling it speedrunning or speedgaming, let's just call it World Record Attempting. Perfect.
Seriously though, I think "speedrunning" is fine, and I don't think it's a huge deal if someone wants to call it something different. It would be tougher than you think to change a term that's already been well established for a long time.
haha, true. I do think the term "speed running" is much much much more prevalent than the term "single segment" ever was, though, and up and deciding that everyone should call it "speed gaming" now would be essentially just forcing a term change; RTA caught on on its own.
Plus, hey, some people say RTA and some people say SS with resets, and nothing's blown up yet.
edit: my point is basically that if the term "speed running" ever shifts to something else, it'll be a natural change; debating the subject is stupid because A. a forced change won't work and B. it's not really a problem anyway.
The only people who really distinguish speed gaming and speed running are people that go out of their way to be divisive. Nerds need to calm down, we're all doing the same shit here.
Seriously, some say caravan, others say mobile home. I got weird looks at C4L for wanting to put stuff in the boot. There are two words for 'Saturday' in German. and the word for 'mobile' differs in French, Swiss French and probably also Belgian French, and they still understand each other. Let's get this discussion back on what is important >_>
Mr K has taken the lead and developed a prototype for the kind of pages we want to populate the Strategy Wiki with. It's just about ready, so you'll all be hearing a lot more about this very shortly, and all be able to contribute to this goal.
Very excited about this. Keeping information current and available is probably one of the single most important things a good runner can do to keep the community alive and growing. I'll be sure to help in any way I can.
I'm also really interested in what happens to the strategy wiki. I wrote extensive guides for running Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2, but the type of presentation I wanted hasn't really been suitable for it. I'd be happy to translate these over if the framework looks good.
