After showing Radix my Milky Way Wishes run, he remarked to me at how poor the quality was. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't really good either: flickering/flashing of objects wasn't shown correctly, and interjections of blue screens would appear occasionally. Since I plan on doing more runs in the future, I think I need to try to nip these problems before they can get to be more of a nuisance to those who view the clips.
So here's the current situation: SNES -(composite)> TV -(composite)> ATI TV Wonder Pro. Capturing is done in VirtualDub at 320 x 240 resolution (higher resolutions do not seem to be supported with the drivers that ATI supplies, and I do not think my computer can record that fast anyways :-/). All recording is done directly on the computer; I don't own a VCR or digital TV recorder. I still don't fully understand how to get avisynth and Smart Bob to work.
Anyways, I looked at the situation, and have found that plugging the composite video into the card directly eliminates the blue screen flickers. However, since there is a lag between the inputs and video outputs, it is unplayable directly on screen. I had an idea for getting a better video quality by splitting the composite video into two streams, one to the TV and one to the computer. Audio synchronization would be done after recording. Searching on Google, however, didn't come up with anything that fit my needs. So I ask to you if you have any ideas of what I'm talking about.
I'd also like to ask how those flickering/flashing effects are captured... perhaps I can't do anything about it due to my method of capture, but if it is possible for me to get my run to look like those captured by Nate from VHS, then I'd like to hear how. Thanks for the help!
