I'd like to record a PS3 game in HD (720p at least) using RCA video cable, and EzCap of course. I have a 7200rpm secondary drive. Is it possible?

No. The EzCaps only support low res games. For HD you'll need a HD capture card with component or HDMI input.
So the only way to record some HD ps3 gameplay on a hard drive is the happauge HD PVR ~180 € ? (I'm using a laptop)

If you had a Desktop there are other options but yes you are pretty much stuck with the awful PVR for a Laptop. There is a solution from Aver but I don't know much about them: http://www.avermedia.com/avertv/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?Id=572
Yes, a friend of mine already told me about this one. But it seems both (Hauppauge and Avermedia) encode videos using H264. And they're quite expensive anyway.

I believe the EzCap can record PAL 16:9 (1024x576 @25fps) so I'll buy one and record like this ; according to me it's the best quality/price ratio.

No.

Only 720x480 @ 30fps or 720x576 @ 25 fps
So what's the maximum resolution (for the EzCap) in PAL 16:9 ? 856x482 ?
thethrillness.blogspot.com
It's still 720x576 for PAL regardless of 4:3 or 16:9.
you set the correct aspect ratio when you encode, not when you capture.

So I guess the recording resolution is 720x576 then the video is enlarged when encoding, and this isn't a problem... all right then. The "problem" seems the same as the confusion pixel aspect ratio / display aspect ratio.
that's correct.

I really want to get a Battle Kid no-death unfair run up on SDA by i´m so confused. It seems like you hate Youtube so i guess i´ll just give you my video file and hope i´m doing it right. If it´s to crappy i guess i simply have to get a better capture card or something...

I just really wanna get this done but i find SDA to be extremely complicated and that kinda holds me back. A problem actually occured right now, the file is to large so i can´t submit it in my post. Again, i am confused.

Here´s the Youtube video:

I think it looks good except for the fact that the picture sometimes shakes very slightly. If it looks like crap just tell my so i can buy a better capture card and try again.

I hope you guys can give me some advice or something. I really want to get past all this complicated fog and submit a run.

EDIT: If you know how to make that slight weird shaking stop please tell me!

The reason we hate youtube is because it mangles your source beyond our capability (or inclination) to repair it, so posting a youtube video as a tech test is completely worthless.

Upload it to mediafire or something.

Great! I´ll go on and do that then!

I guess this works.

You should post that in its own thread, but you should also read this in more detail.

WMV is never an acceptable format for a variety of reasons.
So I'm kinda new to all of this, can someone tell me why I have to encode my video, and can't just take the video I get from my capture card. Also, do you need to encode pc games?

You have to encode your video so it can be compressed and easily viewable by everyone. Most people don't have the bandwidth to download uncompressed video and even if they did they probably don't have the CPU power to. Encoding makes it fair game for everyone.

This is also the case for PC games.

I'm having issues with this. When virtual dub is opened and I go to Video>Capture filter... and select Secam_B, (what I use for xsplit) nothing shows up. I tried AmarecTV and I'm having the same problem. I've gotten audio to pick up with AmarecTV but nothing picks up with VirtualDub. What am I missing?

Edit: Nevermind got AmarecTV to work perfectly. Not a fan of virtualdub though. It's difficult to config and it crashes on me.
thanks a lot for this tutorial ! I GOT FOR RUN TO RECORD NOW !
sorry, (I got some runs to record now) ...
This is an amazing guide. Thank you very much!

I'm using virtualdub on a laptop to capture runs at the moment, but it inserted 67 frames inexplicably during a run I did recently which warped the audio pretty badly. I'm wondering if there are any disadvantages to having the following options in "Capture > Timing" unchecked:

"Drop Frames when captured frames are too close together"
"Insert null frames when captured frames are too far apart"
Kachou ON!
Is it sure that it works with a Genesis/Mega Drive? Because it puts out a "different" NTSC signal and most of the capture devices have problems with it (black/white, to much color or no picture at all). Mega Drive PAL works fine, but NTSC.... tzz and I dont want to buy it to find it doesnt work.

Really disappointed in Windows 8 support for the EZCap. I built a new system with Windows 8 and I cannot get the USB Audio device to show up in anything. The video will come up just fine in software like Amarec but the audio can never be found. Their website claims to support Windows 8 as well but I am having no luck with it working entirely. It used to work just fine on my old XP computer.

Has anyone used the EZCap successfully with Windows 8?
