I would like to be able to comment the all the new posted videos like on a blog instead of in the forums, where it gets mixed with the planning and other discussions. Does anyone agree with me?
Thread title:
use the verification threads.
I wouldn't mind blog-like comments on runs. Frivolous congratulatory comments of the 'omg this run is awesome1' type feel out of place in the relative formality and depth of the verification threads. Not to mention that when a run is published on the site, the verification threads have been dead for weeks and I feel uncomfortable reviving them without anything substantial to say. The end result of this is that I don't really feel able to praise runners, and if you could comment on run pages, I would.

i agree with like ninety percent of what you said.  sometimes it's not really appropriate to just blurt out inanities in certain threads but i don't think it's pointless or frivolous to congratulate runners on the verification threads.  as long as it's sincere and not just dick-riding than i think it's fine.  runners put a great deal of effort and time (obviously) to these projects and i'm sure they don't mind some random aficionado giving them a pat on the back.

I certainly enjoy when someone takes the time to congratulate me. I've gotten a decent amount of e-mails, and all of them were positive. I fear John Gabriel's Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory would come into play if comments were allowed to be posted on the video page.
I don't mind the "congratulations" posts (they are deserved IMO the runners work very hard).  However, I prefer to have something of substance attached rather than just a generic message.  Like "great job, really like how you did such and such, man close call on that other part etc" seems alot better than just saying "awesome run!"

yeah or crits or questions, i barely ever comment on runs cause i dont check the forum often and id have to bump the topic.

guest pm is disabled right? otherwise a link could be put into the runners comments where guests can send a forum pm to the runner, that way the runner can get feedback and it wouldnt be as attractive for spammers as the youtube system is.

I still prefer a system of public comments because PMing the runner puts them in a situation where politeness demands they reply, which makes me uncomfortable doing it when I have nothing important to say. The need to bump threads that you pointed out is the main reason I never use verification threads to praise runners; they're usually relatively old by the time the run actually gets posted.
I doubt SDA would turn into YouTube just because of comments being added; SDA and YouTube are vastly different sites that serve very different purposes. I don't really see how this could hurt, honestly.
@_@
I always have been and always will be against this idea.

As nate said. talk about the run in the threads. With a comment system you are stuck with people asking wtf was just going on and the like, and no one can enlighten them. With the verification threads, you allready have to follow 2+ threads for a game, in some cases...

Show new replies to your posts works well enough for following multiple threads about a game (you have to post in each thread, mind you), and I don't think any wants to refresh the game page for thier run(s) often. Does no one remember that sub site or whatever Prot made? It pretty much was this exact idea, with a lot of other bells and whistles attached everywhere...
hi,
I'd like to add a suggestion : what about the possibility lo leave fast comments for the viewers of speedruns in streaming?
for example a system like youtube
i think it would be a better (and faster) way to express opinion than to create subjects on the forum
and speedrunners would have some more feedbacks about videos which took several hours to create
Waiting hurts my soul...
Since this is ressurected, recently someone made a good point about contacting runners, and how it requires some knowledge of how the forums work.  Can we include contact information right on the game page?

There are a few ways to do that:

a) Linking directly to the forum profile probably the easiest option for SDA, but I believe the visitor would then need to sign up.  Another option for this is to link to the verifier topic.  This doesn't really take into account that some runners don't have accounts here, but since Mike should know the last contact info for the runner, he might be able to help whoever get in contact with them.

b) Including a mailto although this has the most likely of options to go stale.

c) Having a contact runner page where a random person can send a message without needing a forum account. The page would need to be coded and maintained, so this would be the most effort on SDA's part.

Ok, so after looking over this, I think a link from the run to the verification topic would be the best option.  This actually might tie-in better with the commenting that's been brought up, especially if we want people to comment in that topic.

Already done, but only for a handful of runs. I guess presently the runner has to request it?

Alternatively, do your idea (a) together with allowing guests to send PMs. Potential nightmare of spam and not being able to block people, though, dunno how it would work out.

There are a few issues I see here, most of which I've already pointed out:
* Only newer runs even have a topic in the verification board to link to
* If people did start regularly bumping old verification threads with congratulatory messages, it would make the verification board into a total mess. And verification threads are old before a run is even on the site.

Yes, the runner has to specify to Mike whether they want an email contact on the page.  Most people don't because mailto links are major prone to spam.  (That's why I'm using PHP forms with captchas on my site).
