So, tl;dr incoming.

So some thoughts here:

Independent of who's running this thing, I agree with Ghostking that three months isn't a whole lot of time to go from, basically, nothing to a full marathon. That goes double for something that you want to span a week, and triple for a panel of people who (As far as I know) have zero experience actually putting these things together. As annoyed as I get with various aspects of GDQs, there's a reason the planning for one starts behind-the-scenes almost as soon as the previous one concludes. Now, yes, that's a different scale with different issues than an online marathon, but I think people who have run online marathons before will tell you it isn't all THAT different overall. It looks like Scrubathon IV went from concept to completion in 2 months, but eLmaGus had three previous Scrubathons to draw from.

There are some concrete logistical questions that I don't see answered here. Like: When will submissions close? When will a schedule be out by? Will runners also be expected to commentate their runs? What's the audio setup for the streams going to be? I do like the fact that the structure is geared toward preventation of a single point of failure (An issue I've seen with past online marathons), but there are a bunch of unanswered questions that give me pause, and make me wonder if everyone involved has really thought this through. Again going back to the Scrubathon example, you'll notice all that stuff I'm asking about here was available from the start in the very first post (As far as I can tell anyway. Unfortunately, because it was edited several times between then and now, it's hard to say definitively that it was in there from the very start).

A separate issue is that, while he isn't the only person behind this, chibi has now become the "face" of it in the eyes of a lot of people here by virtue of his making the first post here, asking questions, etc. That's going to make this a hard sell in general. Should it be that way? Given his past, my answer is "probably", although I note that as far as I know, chibi has never stolen money from anyone, and the presumption that he would is on a whole other level from what he actually did (Which in the grand scheme of things is only really noteworthy in terms of speedrunning). Still, I imagine the rest of the organizers are aware of and accept that baggage, so to speak. Also, if I understand the GDQ Tracker correctly, the requirements to set it up make it very difficult to "defraud" in that, as mentioned, all the money would go directly into the charity's account.

We actually just acnnounced a deadline today. It's Marth 18th at 12PM est.
As far as commentating, we'll have the runner and anyone else who wants to commentate with the runner as well as a staff member to read/track donations.
I'm also planning to work with Romscout as well, since he has had marathon experience. He told me to send him all the details via email, which I'll be sending out soon. I also have good connections with him.
As far as the final schedule, that will be out by April 1st (that's what we're planning on)
If you want to have more information, we'll be re-publicizing the discord link soon (we closed it off temporarily to prevent trolls from getting on and spamming)

That's...an awfully long time for submissions. Do you have any backup plans? By that time some runners may have a change in plans and you'd better be prepared for it.

Besides, the schedule is coming out only two weeks before the marathon and it's a weeklong marathon at this point, that's not a lot of time to account for a potential need to schedule change, especially if certain runners can't make early/late runs.

We have talked it over with our runners and have decided to make the submission cutoff date March 1st. This will give us a full month to work out the schedule.
