The man made of sticks
"(Too bad there's no you-see-what-you-wear feature in Diablo. Seeing little groobo running around in underwear would be definitely entertaining. :))"

Then Arthur would appear and throw his trademark lance...

Anyway, well done.  The fine tradition of singular warriors accomplishing what entire armies could not lives on proudly, and as speedy as ever.

I have a few questions about the video capture, though. First, why using DivX for HQ (especially now that we have much more superior x264 and XviD for a long time now)? Second, there were a couple of instances where the image quality f*cked up pretty badly for no apparent reason (mainly in the hell levels after the long shop manipulation). Why is that? Also, I assume there's no uncompressed backup to recompress the HQ version from, right? :\

When I started speed running I choose DivX instead of Xvid because of the lower disc space usage. (That's right.) And it'll stay that way. Hmm, x264... I downloaded a .mp4 file only once... I won't do the mistake again. I just hate .mp4 files... And btw personally when I want to watch a certain speed run I download the lq/mq. ALWAYS! I don't care about quality at all. Speed running is about speed running, not about being a director. You won't get an Oscar here. (@Spider-Waffle. No offence mate.) Oh, and I didn't notice any video problems at all, even after watching the vid several times.

First time poster so i don't know if this is against the rules but heres a link to a way to run blood omen on xp but it looks like a pain anyways here ya go http://www.thelostworlds.net/BO1-XP.HTML

goodluck with it and if its a violation sorry was just tryin' to help out!

Yes I tried that. The game works,  but even on 98 / ME (Tried that too.) the game just speeds up/slows down aggressively. When I finish my silent hill 4 any% and 10-star run (It's time to humiliate another person, eh? Sorry Shin.  :)) I'll get a slower PC and than try my best at BO.

@Everyone else, thanks for the congrats.  Wink
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Oh well I'm game to see an SH4 run too, so good luck

Uh, wait. "x264" doesn't mean "mp4". At all. You can use x264 and still output it as avi. For example, most of the videos here are x264 in avi container.

I'm talking about moments like 12:30 and 15:13 in the video (very noticeable in fullscreen). Any idea on what could have caused the sudden smearing?

On SDA it does. SDA no longer accept x264 encoded videos using the AVI container, because of various technical reasons.

That I didn't know about. Oh well. :|

Does it happen only in HQ? And could anyone else confirm this? Because I watch the vid over and over and I can't see anything fishy about it.
Hey Ho Let's Go
Again, awesome speedrun groobo! Any chance of a Hellfire run as well? That'd be neat...

At 15:14 -

A big blocky mess.

It's not my fault that some people actually see the vid being messy. I mean come on, the game is old!

@Stubgaard
As for now I have to finish the silent hill 4 any% + 10-star runs. After that I'll think what comes next. I'll add hellfire to my I-guess-I'll-be-doing-it-in-the-future-runs-list.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Hey, how did you manage to do such good luck manipulation on your latest 6 minute version?

Also that was some great duping was that all done in 1 segment?
one-armed bandit
I seriously laughed at this run. In a good way.
100% runs=great to watch
Indeed, this is one of the most hilarious runs on SDA....by far.  Great job!
You'd have to have been pretty damn patient to have gotten that neater level lay out but looks like it was worth making the old runs time look pathetic and also some very clever leveling
boss
I've tried to keep the run frame-perfect (failed, again) which explains the large number of segments. Each level layout manipulation, duping cycle, and shop manipulation equals a separate segment.

I'm making a sub 6:30 run already. For the win.

Never give up!
flagitious: That duping could not have possibly been in one segment.  There's a segment for each dupe - I can tell because the music keeps restarting.

Anyway, I'm not sure how a Diablo run can get any more insane.

Edit: Didn't realize I was beaten to the first statement by the author himself until after I posted.  Oh well.
Levels are generated when you enter a level, or is it generated when you create your character? If it's the 2nd, I wonder how you got those 15 stairways so close.
boss
It's the 2nd. This run was actually recorded on several save states. Level layouts are generated randomly, which means that you could even get better ones on one save state.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
What do you mean by recorded on several save states?

Since you are working on another version I'll try to give a couple of suggestions for you to consider, you may have already thought of these and decided they are not worth it, but here goes:

Duping book of fireball, might be worth it for faster damage against diablo/lazurus.

Skipping the amulet getting (maybe you have to, I don't know)

Alt-tabbing out of diablo to skip lazurus movie, (game automatically alt tabs back in and movie is skipped).

Anyways great run and looking forward to the next version.

I would need to level up more. Upgrading a spell requires more magic (and mana) than the original. And probably it would save ~nothing.

Read my commentary one more time. I would need to level up one more time if not for the ammy.

I'm 99% sure that it won't be allowed , but I'll talk about it with Mike.

Thansk anyway.  Wink
Everything's better with Magitek
Cool run.  I never would have dreamed this game could be beaten so quickly.  Just wondering, how long in real-time did it take to get this run?
boss
Around 30 hours.
