Holy crap, I'm back from the mother ****ing abyssmal abyss! When's the last time I posted here anyways? What did I miss?
Anywho, short history, after I dropped out of college (am in another one now) I worked on a segmented run of vampirekiller. The fact that I had dial-up the whole time soon rendered any possible connection to SDA impossible. Eventually I gave up the run at the point before Adremelech. At that point, I estimated a final run time of about 45 minutes I think. I can't find my notes (think I deleted them) so I'll soon post what I think I changed.

"i am sorry to say, but the current VK mode run is abyssmal(sp?) with that much luck required, SS should not have been an option. "
Agreed. Plus it's terrible because I sucked in general (you know it as well as I do). If a segmented run comes out, I want it to replace my SS.

"The DSS glitch is not allowed because of the existence of magician mode, iirc. "
"BTW, it was Soteos who said DSS glitch is pointless because of Magician mode, not Radix."
Yep. Yep.

"Persona is currently working on a nearly finished Magician run, 21 mins in front of Drac."
I'm pretty sure he discontinued that run. Getting 7 or so large skeleton bones in a row is definitely not easy. Plus the randomly flying bats, one hit deaths, etc.

"stuff AquaTiger said"
I hope you do consider doing the run. I'll reply to stuff like your card choices in a little bit.

"ToxicFrog's wall-kicking technique that wasn't"
LOL. Would be sweet if it did work that way.

Edit: Basically a full year ago is when I last posted. I'll come up with the changes I made tomorrow.

Someone posted a new wall-kicking technique on TASvideos, and this one seems to work.  It appears to use Apollo+Golem to reduce vertical speed to 0, thus controlling the angle of descent.  I haven't tested, so I don't know if it can be done fast enough to climb a single wall in realtime.

My feelings on The Demon Rush
Nice to see you back soteos.  I'll answer a couple of things for you.

When you (or someone else) makes a segmented run that is less than half the time of your SS, then I'll knock off your SS run as you request.

Persona is on the final segment of his Magician mode run.  He told me he was going to finish it about 4 or 5 months ago, but I somehow don't think that is going to happen  Cry

BTW, you've probably been gone so long you don't know I'm a mod now, so I'm not speaking out of my ass when it comes to rules.

P.S. Abysmal is spelled like how I just spelled it Tongue
If anyone is seriously planning on doing this run, I can send them the VHS tape where I made it up to Adremelech (I'd have to go home first and find the tape). It'll be very useful for the gameplay specifics. Hell, maybe I'll even send you the thing that attaches to the Gamecube so you can play the game on your tv.
Here's a topic for supplemental reading: http://speeddemosarchive.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=consoles_newer;action=display;num=1138149788;start=0

Here's what I did. I pretty much followed the fighter mode path through the game. I get most secret hearts that aren't too out of the way, and hit candles with big hearts. You'll definitely need more hearts than the fighter mode needs. Some rooms might need to be repeatedly entered to refill them (example: the room right before fighting Hugh).

I killed many more things than the fighter run. Early on, if something's in my way, I usually kill it (like the first earth demon). I get the cards from bonehead and skeleton bomber to get the fire whip. I save before Cerberus.

Second segment, I repeatedly enter the room with Hoppers to get 2 gauntlets from them. At this point I recall only needing to kill a few before leveling up and being able to take them out in one hit. Use fire whip on Cerberus (the closer you are to an enemy, the more damage the fire whip does). As I go up the first part of Abyss Stairway, there's a secret hole to the right with a Slime and Axe Armor in it. I repeatedly kill the slime to get Venus card (+25% damage). I save in the place with boneheads all around.

Can't remember Necromancer that well, except that in his second form it took many retries before he didn't do the bouncy green ball move and I could simply whack him until he died. In the machine tower, at the top of the first big room is a secret wall with a heat shade in it. I kill her a few times to get the Jupiter card (plus its a good place to refill hearts). Then I save in the big room after that.

I get the Crucifix before Golem, and use it and the whip to beat him. I guess I save after him.

In the long hallway with hyenas and werewolves, I get a Night Suit from a Hyena along the way. Everything up to Adremelech is pretty similar to the fighter run. I save right before Adremelech.

The next three segments are interesting because they're about 15 seconds long. Two of the segments I kill a were-bear for two strength rings. The third, I kill a were-panther for a thunderbird card. Now I can use venus+thunderbird for the incredible strength enhancement and jupiter+thunderbird to take half damage (useful against Dracula). I did not record anything beyond this point.

I kill Adremelech with the crucifix. Then I go all the way to Camilla and save before her (because at that point, the guy is in flashing health).

The Camilla fight has to be a lot more conservative with the crucifix, because I'm doing much less damage than fighter mode. While fighting her, I stood on the sides of the room next to the gates. I threw a crucifix as she came to me, threw one as she flies away, then try to beat her to the other side and repeat the process. It takes a while. After that it's off to the Observation Tower (I think I took a different route than fighter to get there, but I'm not sure). Then I save before the Dullahan horse guys.

The next segment is the last of the really short segments. I go straight to the left from the save point, go into the secret hole with the Catoblepas and get the Solider Fatigues.

I think from here on out it's all one segment, but I can't be sure. I'm all set with 2 strength rings, solider fatigues, mercury, salamander, venus, jupiter, and thunderbird. I kill Hugh with venus+thunderbird, refill on hearts in the room just before him, and go to meet Dracula. On his first form I think I use the crucifix and the jupiter+thunderbird to not get owned by his yellow bats. On his second form I stay on a platform and use the strength enhanced whip and the crucifix. Jupiter+thunderbird will help to survive a few meteor hits.

On his third form here's what I do. I stand on a platform and wait for his eye to come. It flies in a circular direction. When I see what direction it's going to go, I jump to the other side and throw a crucifix when he's reaching his lowest or highest point. This ensures that each crucifix hits him at least four times. Like the Camilla fight, crucifixes must be used conservatively, because ideally there will be just enough hearts to finish him off.

If any of this is confusing, I can try to elaborate.

So you can go fight Camilla right after Iron Golem? Is there an .avi of this trick? I'd love to see it.

I didn't see an .avi, but there is a .vbm at http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/5650/0045%20-%20Castlevania%20-%20Circle%20of%20the%20Moon.vbm

Thanks, but I don't have the stuff to play it.

Recorded the vbm to an avi.  Note that I slowed down the emulator a little bit so that you could see exactly how things went down.

The trick seems to destroy your MP.  The vbm has a level 12 Vampirekiller wearing a Cotton Robe (ie 310 INT and 210 MP), but the odd thing is that the MP goes below 0 a tiny bit.  That being said, you might need a bit more leeway via powerleveling or MP boosting items, in case you want to try this in an actual run.

Thanks. Negative MP is a side effect of the DSS glitch. When using a DSS effect you don't have the cards for, the MP costs can exceed your MP as long as you have at least 1, but you still lose the full costs after casting it. Example: You have 300 MP, you cast the Thunderbird summon for 200, you cast it again, and you have -100 MP (ignoring MP regeneration). Your MP in the menu are replaced by random symbols, but it doesn't destroy anything, you simply have to wait for your MP to reach 0, 1, and then you can cast again. Pressing up in front of a save gives you as much MP as your current MP max, so it won't be filled completely if you have less than 0, but canceling the save prompt and pressing up again will fix this.

Edit: I've tried it out. Haven't succeeded yet, but unless I'm missing something, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible in real time.
Been playing around with the summon warp glitch, trying to reach Hugh without Roc Wing and possibly Kick Boots.

Is it possible to get past that door?

Just for continuity's sake, what happens if you slide/tackle/etc?  Do you just perform the actions in that confined space?  What if you jump or wall jump?
You can do pretty much everything you can do inside the castle; the door acts like a platform, as you can see, and pressing down + jump lets you fall through it like any other platform, but I couldn't trigger the next room yet, mainly because the door is too far below the ceiling, so I can't use the summon there, and using it while standing on the door or immediately after dropping from the door doesn't do anything. I'm on the right side of the wall, it's just that the environment looks messed up, so it's just like running/sliding/tackling against any other wall.
