Nostra: It'd be useful for 100% really, that's it. You can skip all that text and be closer back to Gen to get her.

EDIT: It depends on the routing, especially with the elemental quest. But teleporting back to the beginning of Cynbel Sea is definitely faster going to the village than from where the 2nd giant is.
Also, that was me with the "guest" post. I wasn't logged in to SDA, cuz I'm using my laptop, lol. Whoops.
OKAY, I think I solved the not-so mystery of getting rid of uplay rewards.

I deleted my save (renamed my good NG+ file, really), had uplay set to launch in offline mode, and started a new game. I didn't have any of the uplay rewards I had previously. That should help those out who want to run NG with the "no DLC/uplay rewards" thing (NG+ still doesn't really matter, just no healing spell DLC).

I'm probably done messing with this game for the day.

Last but not least, even though I was in their streams when they got the times, congrats on NG NostraDamon and congrats on NG+ Devilsrose.
Hello there, first time posting on SDA.

I have some questions about Child of Light's speedrun.

Anyone is running hard mode ? Why everybody's doing Normal mode speedruns, i feel like Hard mode is more challenging, especially for the boss fights, (From my tests, higher dodge&crit chance and no MP wishes in the flowers).

What about the DLC's, powders and oculus are really helpfull to start the run. Should i re-route without them ?

About 100% : What Does it includes, basically i routed to get all sidequests, all powders, all chests, all extra-bosses, and all story papers (confessions if i do remember).

I feel like NG Hard 100% won't have a lot of runners, yet will be the most challenging, RNG trolling and interesting run, with different routes possible found every now and then.

Sorry for my english and thanks in advance for the answers, i'm going to find another start without the DLCs (Yellow oculus are really strong versus the first boss wish i can find a way to craft one from chests).
exc_XrS:

- Most people run normal (or whatever the easiest setting is for speedruns, because it allows for a faster run. If there are people who run normal and people who run hard, then there would be different categories (unless the time-save is negligible I believe).
- DLC would also be a separate category as it would mean a different experience, and faster run (with Child of Light it really only applies to regular New Game, since you start at level 1 and no items without DLC).
- 100% would include everything almost exactly as you said. All sidequests (which means all characters), all stardust, all coffers (chests), and all confessions. The extra-bosses don't need to be counted as there is no counter for them in the game.

NG Hard 100% would be interesting, but I personally don't see it being a viable speedrun--just because it takes away from the whole speed thing. But yeah, the citrine is extremely helpful in a DLC run and it saves time pretty much all the way up until the griffin boss.

If anyone has anything else to add, please do--especially if I messed up in my explanation.
Well, to be honest I'll probably try and route a NG Hard any% run when I get a time I'm happy with in any%, assuming there's still interest out there by that time ;).
Quote from olystice:

The extra-bosses don't need to be counted as there is no counter for them in the game.

Do the optional bosses drop Strardust as the Main bosses do? If so do these need to be counted?

NG Hard mode does sound fun, but i'll stick to NG+, NG you actually need to think!

Also NG+ PC Any% PB 48:30! http://www.twitch.tv/devilsrose/c/4297159

Aurora still has stats to max and time to save! yay. Grin

Good job Devil, you keep destroying your own PBs!

Does anyone know of a way to disable the rain? It gives me massive slow down when playing losing my 10~ secs.
The cutscene skip ogam talked about with Finn if you one-round the elemental serpent boss seems to only work after you complete the game and go back--and it doesn't matter if you one-round it if you go back as Princess Aurora (white dress).

Magic Defense and regular Defense cap at 600, dodge and speed cap at 50% (not sure about crit yet, you start with so little on Aurora and you only get 2 crit stardust during a playthrough).

With 600 defense you take 0 damage from physical attacks (except maybe after an enemy gathers strength).

If anyone wants to do a NG+ race, I believe myself and Symm are planning on doing one in an hour or so (it can be postponed if other people want to join in).

For the sake of fairness, we're all gonna use the same save file--so even you NG runners who don't have a NG+ save can do it. <3

Let me know here, or on Twitch or Twitter. Name on all of those is olystice.

Well I just had something interesting happen on the Umbra fight, using a new strat that I've been trying.

The fight when something like this:
Slow Umbra the whole time
Aurora used Starlight on Umbra (didn't use Lightray for the "long" vs "very long" cast time), got a crit
Got attacked by both little birds, no counterattacks (got set back once)
Cast Starlight again, before I got it off Umbra used Impenetrable Scales. No crit, but it killed her.

Oh and a quick edit: If it wasn't for the set back, Umbra wouldn't have acted (unless RNG was for Gathering Strength maybe).
Hi everyone,

Recently I've been interested in this game speedrun, and since i've just finished writting my notes thanks to the various posts on this topic and mainly NostraDamon's PB videos, i'll start  running the game on NG soon

But I wondered one thing : the emerald statue quest, the one in the under sea temple, gives you x3 tiers 2 onyx (if i remember well), since it's on the way and (i'm not sure about this last point) you don't need to light all the emerald on the way to the secret passage to access it, wouldn't it be worth to do the quest in order to craft a tiers 3 onyx for Aurora ?

Also during my playthrough of the game, during spider queen fight i died and then returned to the mice city, and every NPC said things like if I had killed the boss. So I wonder if there is a way to skip the boss (I didn't push it further at that time, so maybe it's just a stupid bug and doesn't not trigger magna being healed. Also I was playing on hard so maybe it affects the thing)
The statue you're talking about is technically on the way, but it's out of the way for a speedrun. Even if you make it up there fast you still have to wait for the event to finish in order for the chest to be active. Then you still have to do menuing to craft/equip the oculi. Also, you don't have to light the emeralds. And since it's only 20% damage increase for spells, it wouldn't really be worth it for the 3 battles you have left in the game.

That's an interesting note about the spider fight, we'll have to check that out.

Yeah I guessed a 5% more damage wouldn't really be that much interesting, but I still had to ask.

And for the spider maybe it's just a stupid thing like a switch that trigger when you fight the boss, maybe it's related to magna, maybe not. The NPC I talked to told me things along the lines of "thanks for getting rid of the spiders" etc ... (i talked to the guys that ask to you to clean his basement and some random NPC outside)

Myself and Devilsrose when were doing NG+ races decided we'd start splitting on the last hit of Umbra, since the text doesn't really matter.

You'll know it's the last hit because she'll disappear from the timeline.

So if you guys want to do that on NG as well.

Edit: Also congrats Devilsrose on your ridiculous PBs/WRs.

I discovered a lot of little glitches and softlocked the game a few times. Most of them use the start menu and teleportation (know the difference between the 2 types, it's important to trigger different types of glitches). Here are a few of them:

Important: there are 2 different types of teleportation:
TP1. Teleporting in the same zone (eg WindWheels, Town of the Bolmus Populi and Cliffs of Erin are actually the same zone): only the character position is changed. You can tell if the character animation continues after initiating the teleport.
TP2. Teleporting in another zone (eg WindWheels and Altar are different zones): the new zone is loaded and the character spawns in the default position for the zone. You can detect a zone change if the screen freezes after initiating the teleport.

- Teleport Glitch: Pressing Start in front of a trigger and quickly pressing the action button will buffer the action. It means the action will be executed after closing the menu, of even worse if you teleport, the action will trigger the next time you enter the location.
TP1: The screen goes black and the game tries to load both the teleport AND the action at the same time. Priority is given to the action. For example, doing this glitch by initiating the Spider fight will trigger a black screen, Aurora will disappear and teleport to the location, but the camera will stay on the spider, and the fight will start. Another example: doing this with the Griffin fight triggers the music of the teleport location, and this music will be used during the fight (note: this fight doesn't require any input, but you can trigger the glitch by moving up and pressing start right before entering the trigger zone).
TP2: This one is interesting, as it seems to break a lot of stuff. For example, here is what's happening by teleporting in another zone while activating the spider fight: back to the town, the queen/duchesse mouse considers the spider dead, and the cutscene with Robert and the flute song is triggered. However, the Giant's heart is not clean, and the path to the floating island is still closed. On top of that, the trigger for the spider fight becomes deactivated (no way to initiate the fight anymore). BUT by dying somewhere in the same zone, the fight with the spider is automatically initiated for some reason (that's kinda funny as you can see the camera go from the spawn location to the spider, thus showing the bounds and everything).
EDIT: killing every armored spiders is enough to trigger the cutscene with the duchesse. Actually not related to the glitch.

- Wrong Stance: This one is easy to trigger, and leads to funny situations. By teleporting to the SAME zone (TP1) while pushing/pulling a crate, the character stance isn't cancelled by the game. Aurora can still fly, but walking is now impossible. She will have a push/pull sprite and will move very slowly, only in one direction. The funny part is that this is NOT a visual glitch only. Everytime Aurora touches the ground, the crate teleports to Aurora's position (if inside the limits of the crate's bounds) and moves according to Aurora (still within their own bounds). It's possible to reverse the glitch by teleporting in a different zone (TP2), or pressing action against a crate in some cases.

I tried to use these to get Finn, but without success, for now. For example, I was thinking about triggering the spider glitch with TP2, and then, dying in the well to initiate the spider fight and skip the removal of Flinn from the party. Unfortunately, the well and the spider are not in the same zone.
I still didn't find any use for those, but giving it more time and testing could be fruitful, eventually.

Someones been busy, nice find Nostra. Will do some testing as well to see if there is anywhere we can use this to our advantage.

Oh, and this one could lead to some cool glitches:

- Delayed Death: Teleporting to the same zone (TP1) right before dying against spikes will trigger the game over in the next location, and not where the death occurred. This could potentially lead to a zombie Aurora glitch (invicibility, HP <= 0). I have a few ideas to exploit this, I'll give it further testing today.
FINALLY, I GOT FINN SKIP!

It's a little complicated to get, but it's pretty fast (doesn't require to actually enter the well). I need to do more testing to be absolutely sure about what's happening here.
I'll keep you updated.
Oh nice, Finn skip would be smecksy.
Lol...

OK. Now I got it consistently, and it only requires 1 reset (my first attempts required 2 resets, and the above title screen glitch).
It's now pretty easy to pull out, and fast (<30secs including dialogs, reset and TPs). In order to do this glitch, you have to know how to do the TP1 glitch (teleport + action overlap):

STEP1: Talk to Finn on the left to start the quest.

STEP2: Trigger the TP1 glitch on the well. How to do that: Press Start and press the action button ('X' on Xbox controller) in the next few frames (between 3 and 6 frames I'd say, not to early, not to fast). BE CAREFUL, this dialog is only triggered once, so be sure not miss it. A way to know if it worked after pressing start is by staring at the input icon on the well: if the icon disappears right before entering the menu, it's a success; if not, just close the menu and try again.
If you got it, you can teleport to a location IN THE SAME ZONE (I use Altar as it's the closest one). If you did it right, the game should start teleporting you and start the dialog at the same time.

STEP3: Go through the dialog. This should happen on the Altar, and not in the village as it's supposed to.

STEP4: The camera will travel back to the village. Press 'A' when prompted with "Finn Joined the Party".

STEP5: This part is very important, as it makes the game forget about the well tp, so Finn won't leave the party. To do this, a reset is required, at a precise moment. After the "Finn Joined the Party" prompt, the camera will come back to the Altar, and the game will start loading the well zone. The reset has to be done AS SOON AS THE LOADING STARTS: just close the game as soon as you see the word "LOADING" appear on the screen (or even sooner, when the music suddenly becomes louder).

STEP6: Launch the game. You should be on the Altar, with Finn in your party. You can now teleport to your destination and keep going through the game with your new friend!

I'm gonna make a video of this glitch, probably today.
Feel free to ask questions and share ideas on potential TP glitch exploits Smiley
Does the Finn glitch mark the quest as completed? If not, I don't think it would be useful for 100%--depending on how the community wants to do it.

No, it doesn't.

EDIT: It's definitely a huge help on NG, but I don't think a second caster is worth the time loss on NG+.
Well that's one thing myself and Devilsrose were theorycrafting yesterday--if it would be faster to get second character.

Right now I don't think another caster would help, but another physical attacker might. So we might end up getting Rubella, since Rubella is stronger than Aurora.

Oengus takes too long to get, and he comes in so late for it to be worth it (you'd have him for 5 fights, whereas Rubella you'd have for all except 2).

The only two fights I see Rubella losing you time on would be Serpent (physical resistance) and Nox (physical resistance). But the short casting time of Tumble and medium casting time of Tumble All would make some fights (Cordelia, both giants) go slightly faster.
