If this is not the best place to be requesting this, please let me know. Anyway, would it be possible to create a category for Mega Man X - X6 for people who do runs via the Mega Man X Collection (PlayStation 2) versions of those games? A friend of mine has been working hard on a speedrun for Mega Man X4, but feels that a glitch with one of the bosses in the port would give him an unfair advantage over runners who submitted videos from the original PlayStation release.
Thread title:
Not a walrus
If they're significantly different in some way, it'll be a separate category, yes. See MM3's AC run for an example.
As far as X3, X5, and X6 go, those probably don't need a separate category as far as distinguishing them by XC (X Collection). X3 uses the Playstation version, which I think both operate about the same. X5 and X6 have in-game timers, which negate the reason for accounting for loading times.
Formerly known as Skullboy
X3 on the collection has skippable cutscenes at the beginning (attacking the flying bug) and one of Dr. Doppler early one and the SNES version doesn't have these so they should probably be separate categories. What's this boss glitch in MMX4?
My feelings on The Demon Rush
X3 on the collection is definitely a separate category because of the cutscene speed and lag differences that are way too difficult to factor into any time comparison.

X4 is the same except the load times are factored out to make timing fair across versions. However, if this boss bug really does make a version difference, then the X collection version will probably have to be a separate category.
I was comparing X3 on Playstation with X3 on X Collection, saying both were similar (but vastly different from SNES version).

I'm curious about the X4 boss glitch exclusive to the port, as I don't recall there being an exclusive glitch.

The glitch occurs in the Slash Beast fight. In the original release, he'll sometimes stop to growl once before attacking/leaping. In the PlayStation 2's Collection version, he'll typically growl about three to five times in a row, giving the player ample time to drain his health with Zero's rapid slash technique. Mind you, this doesn't result in a huge difference in time, but it kinda adds up when you consider that you fight him twice.

Judging from the responses I've seen, I'm thinking I might have this category concept misunderstood. Does SDA have to create such a category first or does my friend simply have to state the differences with the Collection release upon submitting his run?
SDA will create the category upon submission, and it does need to be clearly stated. If it's not clearly stated, chances are a verifier will catch that and note that when the run is verified.

However, it's probably good to make sure that a category is okay in the first place, especially if someone plans on submitting an obscure category for a game (for example, Mega Man X4 any% Buster Only would be considered an obscure category and not likely for submission). This, however, should be an okay category to submit for.
I liked to revive this thread to clarify the status for Mega Man X4 on the Mega Man X Collection (I hope the only thing I have to do,
is post, otherwise please correct me) as I have seen, that sneakytkdninja will run at the next SGDQ and, if I don't make a mistake,
he will use the collection on the gamecube.
Now, apart from the loading time (gets counted out, I know), the only difference between both versions that is worth mentioning is Slash
Beast sometimes, as Xanato stated, but surely not typically, growls multiple times.
This of course is by far not as much of a difference as with MM3 so that's why I liked to know, whether both versions will be treated equally
or not (don't know, perhaps a flat time penalty for a multiple crying Slash Beast so no new category has to be opened).

Thanks for a hopefully clear answer in advance.
Exoray
If the only difference is slightly different RNG in one part, then that's too small a difference to be separate categories. Just use whichever version is faster.
Thank you very much for your fast answer.

Glad to hear this, as I don't have to get a new copy of the PSone game.
