Well since nobody else wants to do it, I guess I will. Just a small note about this game, I know absolutely nothing about it.

However I do have one small problem with this run, I found a different run searching online for any other information about the game so I could maybe have a frame of reference to work with. This one: http://www.twitch.tv/heroicarus/c/2938475&u%C2%ADtm_campaign is done in 1:09:15, but its done on emulator. So I know N64 emulation can be kind of iffy, but how much faster or slower is the N64 emulation of this game and is it a fair comparison to make to this 1:22. I don't know enough about the game to make any kind of determination at the moment because of this.

SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
I'm working on it Anchor!  I don't know much of this game other than what is already on the site (which isn't going to do much since it is with a different character).  I hope to get something done by later today though to try and help level this out so that we can get more runs.  ^_^

Something has always struck me as ironic for the last few years about this game whenever I stumble over it: it has been about than five years since Sir VG added this game to SDA, and it was with one of the alt. character instead of the main one (Cornell).  Of course, there's nothing wrong with that, but it did leave me wondering if we would ever get that speed run featuring the werewolf.

Now, I'm going to take into consideration of something Mr. intheBox posted in regards of another speed run that was posted for the same game at a supposed faster time.  As such, I decided to look more into it since it was on the nintendo emulator instead of an actual console and while it can be hard at first, something did strike me that I don't think none of us considered.

While watching both of them together, I didn't get why they looked so different from each other.  At first I thought "It is an emulator.  Of course it would probably have better graphics, but then I watched the stream at the very start and noticed the expansion pack.  I can't confirm anything if having an expansion pack in the 64 givess you better camera viewing, but in the stream posted, the streamer has a better view and looks to run smoother than the runner's which looks to be more closer and more bumpy in the details.  Again, I don't know if this has anything to do with the emulators or not, but I'm going to list down what I saw from both the runner's and this stream and see if anything that the differents are close or not.

Runner gets hit almost immediately while jumping.
Runner picks a fight with creatures with streamer goes straight for door.  In same room, streamer got the jump early while runner had to wait a bit longer to jump
During first boss fight, Runner transformed while streamer stayed put.  During the fight, runner got grabbed and thrown while the runner was able to avoid getting captured, but in the end the runner was able to beat the boss just a bit faster than the streamer.
During the platform sequence, runner was clearly better at jumping on platforms.
Next boss fight, the runner took care of the giant monkey skeleton much faster than the streamer but during the ambush the streamer took care of the monster and was already on his way while the runner took longer to finish it and got the drop.

It was at this point did I start to realize that the stream's gameplay was a bit more jumpy than the runner's video.  I don't know if it was the files I dled or what, but considering what I saw as a comparison I could conclude by this point that doing a comparison in times would be unfair to the runner to try and compare the two in regards of performance of the software that could be a reason why the streamer's video looked faster at times.  Still, I decided to keep comparing anyway just to be sure.

Tower climbing was about the same, but the runner finished the boss faster.
At the 12 minute mark, something strange happened.  At the moon door, the runner looks to be just standing there until he finally moves.  Is it the runner failed to realize he didn't open the door, or was it the tech that disallowed him to enter immediately (whereas the stream looked to have gone into the menu to open the door).
streamer was faster in the 2nd tower.
Inside the mansion, the streamer had a better execution of the boss inside and already took off by the time he was done with it.
It is after the point that both runners use the sun card to both men go separate ways: The runner stays in the mansion to fight another boss fight, talk to a girl and go outside to fight a chainsaw monster and escort henry while the streamer goes outside to do something I can't figure out.  It isn't until later did I find out both men were doing the same thing, but in opposite orders.
fight against the butler was about the same
in the next boss fight, the runner transforms again to beat the boss faster.
while taking the platform down, the runner got hit by fire and jumped down once, the streamer got down much faster.  As for going back up, the runner was noticeably faster.
During this time, it got hard to compare the runs as both men were moving time forward like mad, but I think the runner was going up the mine cart path first.
with the swinging chandeliers, the runner was a bit too cautious while the streamer just ran with it.
The Streamer jumped to the ledge during the "flaming cart" while the runner waited.
During the collapsing floor sequence, the streamer made the jump to the door while the runner fell through
Somehow, the streamer got to the tower of science much earlier than the runner.

All I can say so far is that considering how at times the stream looks to run smoother or looks to run faster in comparison to the submitted run (and how it looks like an "expansion pack" was detected for the streamer while the runner might not have that) I can somewhat say that we shouldn't reject the run just because of the emulator run that was faster... or at least not yet.  I'm still viewing the run and probably won't have a definite response until tomorrow.  You can see my random notes in the hidden, but try not to depict them since I can't figure out my gibberish notes thus far.

While it would be unfair to try and compare the two runs, it looks at times that there are more things that go right in the stream video where that runner threw more caution to the wind while the submittion runner looks to be more cautious at times and falls behind more times.  If the stream video didn't exist, this would be an easy enough accept, but in this case, this is much more complicated.  Something about it being done on an emulator makes me feel like there might had been some shortcuts taken, but because this was done while streaming...

Yep!  First time verifying a run where I'm completely split!  Sometimes, it can be an easy accept, easy reject, or at least I could say it was a weak accept, but this is difficult to say.  Still, I will admit one thing though: I'm over thinking it.

The run can clearly be better according to the stream video, but then because of it being on an emulator, it is unknown just how much different it would be compared to it being done on an actual console.  With that said, I would say that this run is acceptable to be on SDA, but I'm going to take it that the runner probably wasn't aware that this stream video existed, and maybe if the runner watches this run, he might be able to improve his time.

Weak Accept.

A/V is fine. No cheating detected.

I've watched the submitted run and the streamed emulated run and while the submitted run is certainly not as good in terms of optimization and execution in certain areas, the submitted run is still pretty good and watchable. I am also somewhat split on this run. The parts that really stuck out to me in terms of possibly being a lot faster are the crystal fight and Dracula fights along with a bit more risk in the Art Tower and Tower of Sorcery. I understand that having a lot of risks to take can make it harder to take any as the run goes on but I think it is doable on console. Boss fights in general could be faster unless the emulated run got a controlling advantage in terms of hit rate (I think door openings and transitions were faster too). The runner also needs to feed Cornell a lot of meat throughout the run. These menu times do add up after a while as does taking damage that knocks Cornell down.

The hedge maze chase looked pretty clean and the runner timed his entrance to the first moon door very well so he only had to wait a few seconds for it to unlock instead of using a moon card.

I do accept this run. It does what it needs to do even if it's not the most optimized. I hope the runner will keep plugging away at this category as there is more that can be done. I've heard very little that is good about this game so seeing a competent run is good enough for me.

Dling...
I should be able to get to this in the next couple days.
Decision posted.
A Serious Noob
Well I didn't think this run would pass honestly. I will improve this run though in fact I am probably going to put in the work soon in addition to my streaming schedule. Lots of improvement that needs to be done!

A side note - I streamed the game on emulator the other day and the emulation is way faster than playing the game on console. (I wish it was that fast playing on console) I used Project64 v1.6 running on default settings.

Anyway thanks to the verifiers for taking the time to review this run. I bet UA really appreciates that too! lol thumbsup

Like what was said before Mr. Flip84, it is a good run, but it can be better.  Still overall, it is well executed to be accepted.  Congrats on your accepted run and hopefully we will be able to see that improved run soon enough.  ^_^
