I know how to get the early Platinum Tip, but since my route doesn't get me nearby until the very end, I just decided to skip it overall.

Besides, three Medicine Jars help speed up the battle against Maxim B.
"I like to watch"
How do you get it? That's the one near the start, right? I have no idea how to get around a ledge.
IIRC, you need the Sylph's Feather to be able to get the item. It's impossible to pull it off without it, unless I'm mistaken.
Visually Appealing
the tasvideos forums mentioned something about backdashing then jumping. search around there.
*Reads through the posts.

Well, it says you need the Double Jump to be able to reach that ledge, so it's out of the question.

However, they're talking about tricks I've never heard of, and I can't exactly view them since they're all on the emulator.

They're also using the Door Glitch, which can't be done at all in the Castlevania Double Pack.
Visually Appealing
would the door glitch even be allowed here?
I don't know, to tell you the truth. I don't use it, so I didn't bother asking Radix about it.
Firstly, sorry for the bump. I know this is not a help forum, but since I'm also wondering what happened to this run, I'm going to ask here.

I'm currently trying to pull off that Platinum Tip early trick. Surprisingly, I can't find very much about it, aside from this FAQ. It says:

Quote:
* Sacred Fist + Ice Spellbook Trick *

Here's a neat little trick you can use to reach some ledges before getting
the Sylph Feather or Griffin's Wing. Find a ledge that you can almost, but
not quite, jump to. At the height of your jump, use the Sacred Fist + Ice
combo, and you will end up on top of the ledge.
One place to use this is in the room in the Approach of Deplore A with
the Logos Ring that you cannot normally reach until you have the Sylph
Feather. You can also use it to get the out of reach Heart Max Up and
Dracula's Ring in the Corridor of Marble the first time you pass through
the area. (Actually it was the discovery of this by kenji1349 that lead
Machinegun to find other uses for the Sacred Fist + Ice Spellbook combo,
which in turn, lead me to re-discover this trick. Heh.)

The most game-breaking use of this trick is to get to the Entrance A
warp room very early in the game. Once you have the Slyph's Feather,
go back to the topmost Save Point in Entrance A, then exit right,
then Up, then Left. You should see a ledge right above the entrance to
this room (which itself is on a ledge of sorts.) What you do is walk right
_almost_ off the ledge you start on, then double jump twice as fast as you
can. If you didn't bump your head on the second jump, you should be able
to Ice Fist to the right to land on the upper ledge. (This takes some
practice. if you walk too far off the entrance ledge you won't be able to
double jump, and if you don't walk far enough you'll just bump into the
upper ledge on the second jump. I understand this still works in the
English version, but as I've noted several times I don't own a copy so I
have not confirmed this myself.)

You can easily get from there to the other side of the wall. The lower
left exit is, of course, the room with the Attack Platinum. As if this
game wasn't easy enough... Smiley The top right is the Warp Room. However,
you will not be able to use it until you've met Death in the Warp Room
in Clockwork Tower A. At that point, you can warp back to Entrance A,
then warp to Entrance B, then grab the Lure Key.
From there, you can do all sorts of ridiculous things like getting the
Levitation Boots from the Pike Master before getting the Griffin's Wing.
Or, you can reach the Cave of Skeletons A and get the Floodgate Key before
going through the rigamarole of getting Maxim's Bracelet. The amusing
thing about this is that you can defeat Death and get the Griffin's Wing,
then go back to Castle Tower A and watch the defeated Death kidnap Lydie.
Heh. (As far as I know there are no dialogue changes if you do this.)

Let's not even talk about levelling up to some absurd level early on...

It's not that difficult to avoid head-bumping on the second jump, but it doesn't get you high enough for the trick to work. Is there a video of it? I tried it with an original copy as well as the Double Pack. Maybe there's even a use for this in a speedrun, at least the TAS is going to use it, iIrc.
Since I'm at college, recording the run has been delayed until I get home, probably around December.

I never used the trick for a speed run, since backtracking would take longer and I never saw a use for the Lure Key due to my route.

I can try and see if the trick still works though.

It's the Castle A ending and doesn't qualify for SDA due to some Mysterious Teleporting, but it's worth watching nevertheless.
I'm having difficulty downloading the run.

I'm more interested in seeing the boss strategies though, since that's my muddiest point in the run.
Fucking Weeaboo
Part of the problem is the links get cut off. Make sure you're copying the entire address.
He definitely has a better Maxim strategy than I do.

I always got the Guardian equipment, but now I'm contemplating skipping it after watching his run. If I am to do that, I need to improve on my Death and Maxim battles.

I'm also now contemplating getting the early Platinum Tip. The Lure Key isn't very useful for me since my route never goes near one of those doors, but the Platinum Tip could be worth the time invested in retreiving it. I'll have to experiment.

With those two things in mind, I'll see what happens to my 57:08 goal.
Well, the early Platinum Tip trick isn't working for me at all. I'm thinking I have horrible timing or something, unless Konami decided to mess with the ledge's height or something along with removing the Door Glitch in the Castlevania: Double Pack version.
It works with the Double Pack, I tried it yesterday and did it on the fourth try, and if I'm capable of doing this, everybody is. Wink
Mind giving me some tips then? I can't seem to pull it off.
Well, I couldn't do it until I saw the run I posted. I've always been waiting too long for the second jump. I recommend watching it several times. For the first jump, launch off the very edge and jump almost immediately after you bumped your head on the ceiling, it's tempting to wait a little longer, but don't. If you didn't bump your head after the second jump, press right and use the Ice Fist. Yeah, this description isn't that great, sorry. There is a fair bit of luck involved if you're trying to do this in real time, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, even if you're doing the exact same thing everytime.
I still can't pull it off, and I've tried it about 27 times (no exaggeration). I'm going to go at it again tomorrow, though it's not looking good in terms of time saved since the Ice Book + Bible combo is almost as damaging.
I still can't pull off the trick. I have no idea how much the Platinum Tip will help, so I'm tempted to simply leave it out of the run.

In other news, I counted the number of segments in this run, and I have 28 segments. The longest segment is roughly 4 minutes (backtracking and Death), while the shortest segment is 17 seconds (retrieving the Blue Tip).

In other words, accepting mistakes is out of the question in this run.
I don't think the Platinum Tip is worth it unless you have a use for that warp portal you can activate early while getting the tip.
Since I need the Crush Boots to make the most use out of it (retrieving the final Dracula part), I don't think it's worth it after all.
In case you don't know yet, the TAS is out.
Visually Appealing

its good to see a run of this, bu i highly doubt a run like that will be on SDA. seeing how he uses alot of the warp glitches.

the run looks quite weird to me, like theres some places it looks like he does a triple jump. also i thought you got hurt if the slide kick didnt kill the enemy.

The Maxim TAS is EPIC.
