I have been thinking about doing this for awhile after watching Mike Uyami's awesome regular mode run and I had an industrial castle run the other day that made me think that this was actually possible. I am posting this thread because I am uncertain about the ground rules for a verifiable speed run. Wizard Castle Interior and the Desert are the only reasons why I would need to do a segmented run. Segments will most likely be New Game to Barbarian Boss, Forest Entrance to Catfish, Tall Grass Field to Pipistrello, Flowery Field to Cyclops (ugh), Lava World, Industrial Castle, Dock to Sand Castle Roof, Temple to Corn Boss, Temple to Medusa, Full Moon, Snow World to Castle, Wizard Castle Takeoff to Final Boss.

Insane mode is essentially "New Game +" so what would be the conditions by which I can start a speedrun?
-  Obviously the map can't be fully unlocked because that would make certain levels and the trip to the blacksmith unnecessary.
- Would there be a level limit to starting insane mode? I would probably use a lvl 79 but grinding on normal mode would take a long time.
- Would I be able to start the game with an animal orb (bipolar bear), money, and/or potions?

Any input with regard to verification or just general tips would be appreciated. Thanks everyone in advance.

My feelings on The Demon Rush
There is no level limit to starting in a new game +, so grind away until you're at max stats.

Yes, you can start the game with such things because it's impossible to play through the game once without collecting anything.

Also, I might have to change my last name to Uyami. Wink

So, i guess the plan is

Max out all stats, best gear and then hope you can beat insane mode?
haha woops, must have read that wrong. Sorry Mike.

Beating insane mode won't be an issue. I've soloed it several times with different characters and the only levels that give me a hard time now are wizard castle interior and the desert. However, going for speed is tough when enemies have so much HP and they get harder to group together with sstt. In mike's run it wasn't an issue with the fire demons or snakeys because they were dead after two full rotations of the combo. For those types of enemies I use stt but its harder to group them that way so I'll have to mess around with different strategies to take care of them faster.

Is this game really that hard?
difficult and stupidly random
Insane mode isn't that hard.  There's a couple spots where you might die, but for the most part it's the same as normal mode except you air-combo the guys for a lot longer since they have stupid amounts of health.  There are more enemies, but typically it doesn't matter since you're stacking them.

Anyway good luck with the run.  I recommend Red Knight since his magic is so overpowered.  Industrialist magic can do crazy amounts of damage to certain bosses, but is useless everywhere else.
So to clarify, for a NG+ run would it have to include completing all the available maps? Or would having a character start with a 'silver skull' insane mode and end up with a 'gold skull' at the end consist of beating the game? A friend of mine and I beat insane mode co-op while i remained at level 1 throughout normal mode and insane mode. It would show that it is possible to beat the game without completing all the levels, but only the ones necessary, however the problem arises in the fact that you could potentially beat the game up until the last area and just do that....

It is rather confusing...but in castle crashers only some of the levels are "required" to be beaten by a new character (with help from someone who has beaten the game already to skip the levels in between) to actually complete the game....what would be the rules regarding this?
