FF8 & FF12.. Long awaited runs.
I think this game has great potential to be ran. Whether it's a run for true speed or 100% documentation.

Anyone else be interested in a run like this? Any potential runners out there?

Hey you, you promised us Redneck Rampage would be finished in March!  Tongue
Fight, Crocogator, for everlasting peace!
Ooh, I wanna see it, I wanna see it!

Atmospheric games need more runs~
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I would definitly want to see a run for this and I would be glad to verify it. Though I don't plan on completing this game anytime soon, but probally right before summer starts or July; very busy these days Wink

Actually I got stuck on some stupid combination lock and didn't feel like playing it anymore because of Condimend + now there's so many games to play Elder Scrools, GRAW; to many these days, gonna take a break on horror titles 8)
Nifty.
By odd coincidence, I started playing this game two days ago, and I'd LOVE to see a run of it.  The game is intense in a rare way, as anyone who's played through the hotel chase knows.  Man, that scene handed my butt to me many times.  I assume the game would be done segmented, as doing an SS of this would be a nightmare.  It is insanely easy to accidentally break stealth, which, depending on difficulty and area, is most often a guaranteed game over.
I would be interested in a run, too. I tried myself running a bit in the next difficulty once I finished the game in normal. So far I don't see any glitches to avoid anything and the in game videos you can't abort are quite annoying.
Furthermore it's extremely hard to run past enemys because you will most likely die by one unlucky hit and fast fights are pretty luck based, too. In some areas you can kill enemys easy by hiding behind things like fishnets because they don't find you and you can shoot them down relaxed.
The jump and puzzle parts are easy and much faster than the shooting parts but I don't see many ways to shorten them. By doing funny jumps you just break your legs or die and the puzzles require to do things in an given order.
Would be interesting how a speedrunner would overcome these problems.

If someone finds a major glitch I'd love to hear it.

Sorry for my English.

Are you kidding?

To stay on topic, I might watch the run too. To see if I want to buy the game.
It's-a me, Raven!
Buy it. Period. It kicks ass. The hotel-chase had me throwing around random objects in anger for two days; it's THAT hard. I've played for more than an hour of the game, and I still didn't get a gun - in an FPS; go figure. Graphics may be a tad behind on other contemporary games, but it has at least as much atmosphere (if not more) than DooM³ or F.E.A.R., to name a few. And the 20's-camera-effect is just plain fun.
I got stuck due to a technical defect - when you start the "break-guy-from-prison" section after escaping from the rooftops, my screen is all black, ochre or brown (with the occasional white or black line in the corner, or a white blot where a lightbulb is supposed to be). I tried updating my drivers and all, reinstalling, and even contacting the support over at Bethesda (those guys SUCK, by the way); nothing helped.Hence, I'd just LOVE to see a run of this one.
PwNzRd!
I saw this at the store and wanted to get it, but I didn't.

Just thought I would share that.

Go away.

It is a video card problem, I had the same but the newest Det's fixed it for me. Serves me right for not being up-to-date.

PS: As if not get past the chase scene first go.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
im thinking of doing one myself
I reckon I could give it a shot, but I'm slightly bogged down with work right now. I'll see what I can do in a few weeks.

damn I just saw this, I would love to verify a run of this, I am very fond of this game, but I suuuuuuck ha

I hope someone does do it....
I would still love to try this. However, there's no way in hell I'd be able to do it using the 30 second limited FRAPS. I'll have to think of some other way of recording it.

Not that I'm particularily fast at the game, but I've played through it a few times and never had many problems in it.

Updated my drivers a while ago, and indeed, it works. Didn't bother playing any further yet though.
About the recording issue - got a DVD recorder? I recorded my Star Wars: Republic Commando demos on one... No need to care about lag between the PC and the TV, since you can play on the PC' screen just fine.
I run this here hotel of an evening
i know this topic is dead. i hope to revive it. i've run the xbox version and my best (segmented) times are:

Boy Scout - 2:14:49 100%    2:10:XX any% (sorry, don't remember the seconds. it's the only any% speed run i've done)
Private Investigator - 2:06:55 100%
Hardened Detective - 2:15:51 100%
Mythos Specialist - 2:19:46 100 %

I did find a couple of neat things. most useful one is not having to climb down the elevator cable and skipping the "the place is gonna blow in X minutes!" cut scene. It's a weird glitch. You don't drop from the hatch to the cable, instead you just walk straight out to it. The game thinks you're on the ground the whole time so that when you hit the cable you catch it for only a split second, then you fall, hit the ground and take NO damage. It only seems to work if you keep your view as horizontally level as you can.  and you can't catch the cable on the way down.

Also Burnham sucks:
He turned invisible once. You could still see his shadow and he was still solid though. He still got himself killed by not following the lead of the very person he told to take said lead, as he so often does. Can't even sneak while invisible. Not cool...
Had him get stuck at the top of the stairs across from the front of the police station once. I got all the way into the garage, saw that Mackey wasn't there, and went back to look for him out of curiosity. Had to restart anyway, might as well see what he was up to. Just standing there. No one on the streets noticed him though they probably should've been able to see him. Could only get him to move by drawing the patrol over. Then he died.
Another time i pumped 5 pistol rounds into the back of one of the patrols heads, and he didn't notice me. He said something as if he'd heard me but didn't turn around. Didn't die, either. I took it as a win and continued into the sewers. Burnham actually followed that time. Double win.

I used the crouch trick for Devils Reef except for on Mythos. For that difficulty I used a standing sneak for the same basic effect. Harder to do though.

You can heal during certain cut scenes, including but not limited to, blowtorch use for repairing the pipe, using the wrench 4 times at the bottom of the Refinery, pretty much any time that you can activate a cut scene by using an item from the inventory. Set the healing stuffs you want to use and then use the item.
Best during unskippable ones.

problem is i can't record. Sad
if i gain the ability to record before someone does this then i'll happily do a segmented run. An SS run would probably be too much for me.
I run this here hotel of an evening
OK, so I've been working on a segmented any% PC version speedrun. I've got segments 1-15 done so far. Where would be good to upload them? They range in size from 64mb up to 246mb. I've found a lot of tricks, such as skipping the poorhouse key, even teleporting in the church. That one saves around 20 seconds game time, but requires reloading. The file being reloaded is the same one that starts the church, not a premade save. Would that be allowed? If not I'll have to redo segments 7-15 before continuing.
It's very simple to do. Play until you get to the church basement, pick the book up then activate the plaque. It doesn't matter if you place the postcard or not, you just need Jack to lean in. Once he's leaned all the way in reload your save. I choose quit then continue, though it also works from a manual save. Once you've loaded back in and regain control, press activate. You'll end up in the basement leaning back from the plaque. You can then pick up the book but you'll have to move forward a bit to place the postcard.

My test run ended up at 1:21:57

Do you mean for yourself to store, for others to download or for others to watch ?

That sounds like save-warping to me, therefore it should be allowed (see https://kb.speeddemosarchive.com/Rules#Special_considerations).

For others to download. I plan on submitting, but even if it gets rejected others will still enjoy it.

Come to think of it, what's the size limit for attaching to a post?

I run this here hotel of an evening
are you supposed to start the ship with the revolver? i thought you started with no weapons, yet for some reason i have it when i get there
Why not upload them on YT? Can you combine the segments into one video?

Did you try to attract the attention of Pafi, the old runner? He could probably give you more feedback than anyone.

I tried yt. It never got past "pending". I restarted the run so I could get acceptable quality. If there's a specific segment anyone wants to see I'll upload that segment to Dropbox or something. It goes to the crashed elevator in the refinery.

I sent pafi a pm but it's been awhile since he's posted, not sure when he'll see it.

I'm already 3 seconds ahead

EDIT: Now 10 seconds ahead. Poorhouse Key = skipped
Mega is a file sharing service that caters for big files too. Even if you don't get anyone's feedback if you feel you're doing the optimisation that you should for a segmented run, no-one can hold it against you if someone DID know a non-obvious trick that they never told you about, now that you've posted in the thread.

Doesn't seem Pafi ever created a Strategy Guide page. Maybe you could do it? The instructions (it's very simple) are here: https://kb.speeddemosarchive.com/SDA_Strategy_Wiki#Adding_a_game

It's basically like making your notes on-line instead of just on your compy.
