I'd be down to have some racing categories - seems pretty cool. Mother Minku is another cool one. We could also have races to get certain toys or something, just to mix things up
So I just learned eating rotten food can't reduce you below 1 HP.  I thought I had an alternative to poison.  Same with health drain from having no BP.

I thought about fake 100% and such but any% is still doing new stuff.
...Wha?
lol GN, I had the same thought about getting food poisoning. I wish it worked, but it doesn't. :<

We ran Steamknight races a few times a few years back. lol That's about as far as it got however. But I'm definitely open to running some races, try and build up the community a little more.

Also, http://www.twitch.tv/sh0rtcircuit/v/4585901 Here's the Early Goggles get. Unfortunately, however, the goggles don't appraise the LBelt on the spot, you still have to go to Conners to appraise them. I still think it's viable to get them early for 2 reason. 1) It saves you from having to run there after Relic Keeper and sit through the Crest animation, and 2) It makes getting the LVest that much easier since you definitely CAN skip going to Conner's to appraise it.
...Wha?
So, do we know exactly how much money we need from Macho? Out of sheer frustration, I've been stopping at 3.2k and rolling with that. Ended up buying SRevive early, so it kinda screwed me on Inn money, but I grab a rock while getting Aqualin and selling it for 2k. Pretty sure that's enough to sustain the run until one of us starts adding in early goggles.

But seriously, Macho is a douchebag. I wanna punch my screen 90% of the time I'm gambling with him. XD

You need roughly 1300 for the Inn.  A bit more if you guys don't sleep in Musashi's room before Skullpion.

1. 1 at Chapter 2 beginning to move Macho
2. 2 after getting L-Bracer to open the appraiser
3. 1+ to get to 23:00 to get Mine Key
4. 1+ to get to 00:00 to get into the restaurant after early Water Scroll

Then whatever amount you want for healing items.  I think 3 W-Gels is enough till the end so 750 for that.  -250 for each W-Gel you think you don't need.

3000 for the S-Revive.

So if you want it all from Macho you want 5050 after using him.  8050 if you are also going for early L-Goggles.

Then another 3000 per S-Revive if you plan to try more than once, or ~800 for Inns if you plan to do the Church as backup.
SPEEDruns not SAFEruns
You can stay at the inn twice at the beginning of chapter 2 and still go to macho. Then you'd have to get L-brace early on your first attempt, go to the inn and sleep in room 204. This gives you just enough time to hit the appraiser. After beating steamwood you can still run directly into twin peak for earth scroll. You can also get healing items if needed at that point. Ideally I'd like to get the run to the point we need zero healing items and I think that's totally reasonable. This is just an alternative if need be - seems to me that the sleeping is the biggest unknown as of right now.

As far as the early goggles go I think it's totally feasible to do in a run, the only problems I foresee is getting the extra money and actually timing out to see if the lumina animation is slower than killing Musashi. We already know that bringing your life down to zero and taking poision damage is a minimum of 30 seconds (based just on the timing of the second poison), so I'd be curious to see how long the Lumina animation is. My suspicion is that it's pretty damn close to the same time if you hit Conners without having to sleep

Yeah, I usually end up at 1300 after Chapter 1, which has me going into Macho with 1010 to play with. 10 tries is a solid number, I'd say. Thanks for the number crunch GN.

As for Early Goggles, I think the time is about the same...but if you factor in Conners x2 (because of Vest) then early goggles is likely going to be slightly faster. I suppose the question is, is it worth the possible 20 to 30 seconds save, or is it better to just play it safe and reduce the number of run killers we already have. lol I think for now, I'll just focus on what we have and save early goggles for later. I just want to actually get a complete run in since yesterday was so damn terrible.

I also wanted to ask, you guys DO know about the text skips from saving people, right? The yellow box that pops up informing you of your 5BP gain. That box is basically skippable (though it's NOT skippable in the JAP version). It's kind of weird to explain, but you basically wanna rapid-fire Triangle and Circle (Triangle being the first to hit as the box is appearing). Technically, I'm also holding down R2 when I do this little trick, but I'm not sure if it actually does anything for it. Though R2 does seem to help text run faster when dialog is happening...or maybe I'm just crazy.

Edit: As a side note, I've only been resorting to buying Gels since they're cheaper (80 in Chapter 2, 150 by 3 or 4). They heal for 80HP which is generally more than enough to keep you alive if some sort of bullshit ensues.

Whoops, Gels are 150 always. Sorry. lol

I have the same amount Sh0rt, but I know GN grabs all the coins were you assimilate gunshot giving him a few hundred more.
Running Brave Fencer Musashi
Hello guys, Sh0rt told me about this forum. Good to know that we can discuss things about the run here.

So the route I'm going to use for my next runs, Will have the Early goggles, Early Water scroll, Skipping Streamwood 2 and the others tricks (and stupid Macho for the S-revives).
The run has become really difficult with the new stuff, but it is still possible to do.

Did I miss something on skipping Steamwood 2? Maybe someone could fill me in on that thumbsup

Running Brave Fencer Musashi
If you don't drain the water in the mines at chapter 4 and go for the slug skip, at chapter 5 when you drain the water you will make the game thinks that you are in chapter 4 so there is not going to be gas blocking your way at the fire crest symbol and therefore you don't need to do Steamwood 2

Edit

at 14:45 Holy is in chapter 5 and does this.
SPEEDruns not SAFEruns
hmmm I was under the assumption we couldn't get to the fire scroll without using the water crest first. Interesting. Really no reason not to do this, thanks for clarfying

So I messed around with skipping steam wood 2 last night and I can't believe we didn't do it before. Extremely easy skip that saves having to do an extremely boring part of the game. I like it thumbsup

Yeah, I was really surprised how easy it was happy

Now this is a must in every run

lol So...I mean, I used this in my 2:56 run. You guys...didn't know about it? Maybe I need to document what I remember from my run and see what you guys are and aren't doing. XD

But as far as I know, that's the last of the awesome skippage. From there you play the game normally until the end.

EDIT: Is any one planning on doing a run in a little while? I gotta take my GF to work, but I'm considering trying again (for the 3rd day in a row). Only been able to get out of Chapter 2 once... >_>

I knew about it, but having watched holyangel's shit over a year ago I forgot about a lot of it haha. It's hard to know what you used in the 2:56 run cause we can't watch it Undecided  If I remember correctly you didn't do it in your de-rust run, so if then why not now?

Unfortunately I can't do a run until like the 21st or something cause I'm at work, that being said I'm still practicing every night and have 6 weeks off when I get back so you'll be tired of Musashi soon
...Wha?
6 weeks off, that's a lot of time man. And personally, I'm already tired of Musashi, but I'm gonna keep going any way.

And I did pull it off in the de-rust. You came in early on, left, then came back for Ant Queen. De-rust was just a bad run for me. XD

ahhhhh I see lol. Already tired of Musashi? Damn dude! No one is forcing you to run it, I'm just glad you resurfaced - maybe it's time to get on Samurai Legend....... huh? huh?

lol Noooooo, no Samurai Legend for me. Took me 10 hours to playthrough it the last time I streamed it, I'm good.

And I guess I should clarify that I'm tired of Macho and his bullshit more than anything. XD Got 2 runs passed Chapter 2 today, both ended at failing the triple jump to water scroll. Was 1 second too early on the last attempt unfortunately.

Oh, I think I'm gonna highlight my one shot on Macho though. Shit was kinda sick.

EDIT: http://www.twitch.tv/sh0rtcircuit/v/4691931 The epic one-shot from yesterday.
...Wha?
Welp, I was going to do some attempts today, but upon installing DScaler, something happened and now my capcard is down for the time being. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing drivers, but nothing. Will have to look into it on Wednesday when I get back home.

Either way, I'm testing out some patterns with Macho and seeing what happens. So far, 3 out of 3 rounds started with "Low" as the choice. 2 outta 3 had "High" as the second, and then "Low" as the third. This is going on without a memory card in, and from soft-resetting. I'll do a few more rounds and see what happens, then go for hard-resets.
...Wha?
Okay, so after a couple hours, I logged my experiences with Macho. I encourage you guys to run your own tests and log your own notes (or just add in your own section with the attached text file). Maybe we can find some sort of pattern in Macho's gambling.

As for me, I found some close similarities in rounds 2, 3, and 4 of soft resetting. Even a close similarity between those and round 1 of hard resetting. I hope someone can positively identify a pattern we can use to exploit. I had some theories, but I started doubting them once round 2 of hard resetting occurred. >_>

I'll be doing something similar in the near future, good stuff though Sh0rt. This absolutely needs to get figured out one way or the other
Running Brave Fencer Musashi
I did 20 full chains using save states, then I did the probabilities of every round and specific number. From the results looks like it is better to start with "low" and the most common numbers are 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9.

Now, speaking about patterns, If you get the same number in the next round looks like it is better to choose the same answer. (E.G. 8 "low", then next round, 8 "low")

Was looking at this a bit during my breaks.  The value Macho will use is determined after you decide to gamble and then when you select high or low.

The address of the number that will be used is at 0x80127540 (1 byte in size).  One of the RNG addresses is 0x80078980, you can set this to a previous value over and over to get the same number over and over, it takes the 4 byte value there and logical shifts it 0x10 places effectively just taking the upper upper 2 bytes and stores that in register V0.  What I haven't done is find out how that RNG address is rolled.  The 2nd rng is in A2 and A0.  V1 is eventually subtracted from V0 which is what the value comes from.  I may or may not have more time to look into it.

I found the formula how it rolls the number, haven't completely deciphered it (it's MIPS)
