Waiting hurts my soul...
I don't know about perfect, but to give you an idea, that username only had the top spot for full game and leap of faith. Every other one was a different one, and the leader for full game was down at number 6 or 7 most of the time.
we have lift off
You're only half a minute off with a run you're not happy with and in a ss, half a minute isn't much at all.
I hope you're right. I did a 28:16 today, sadly i did about 20 seconds of mistakes 23 minutes into the run. Nontheless, the 4 or 5 pieces I do different now seem to save a nice amount of time, so I'm not totally hopeless. I hope I can get the sub 28 within the next month, I can't play this forever Grin
difficult and stupidly random
I noticed that in the test run you posted, there was a fair amount of time lost (maybe 10-20 seconds total?) assembling the puzzles.  Your platforming is pretty tight as-is, so if I were you I would be looking at trying to memorize the puzzles because you can probably gain more time there than by optimizing your platforming or doing risky tricks.

I don't know how the save system works on PC: i.e. if you can save the game before assembling a puzzle and then repeat the puzzle over and over until you've got it memorized.  (or if it auto-saves the moment the puzzle is completed).

Is the initial placement of the (assembled) pieces random, or does it always drop them in the same spots?  And is the puzzle itself the same every time?  I know the picture is the same, but I was wondering about the shapes of the pieces.
Even if the initial placement is randomized, you can still train yourself to look at a piece and immediately know where it goes (based its picture and shape).  It's actually not a huge memorization task, given that you're a speedrunner so you've already got a pretty well-exercised memory.
The game-timer pauses while solving the puzzles which is why I never bothered to practice them.

Oh.  For some reason I thought manual timing was being used.  If it's in-game, then never mind.  Smiley

Incidentally, if submitting to SDA is your goal, you might want to check with the rules-czars that the in-game timer is the thing to optimize.  Sometimes when there is non-trivial gameplay that isn't included in the in-game timer, SDA opts to use manual timing.  It's unclear if the puzzle-solving is substantial enough to warrant the use of manual timing; That's a Mike question.  I just don't want you to be unpleasantly surprised, because this looks like it's going to be an awesome run.
Mh you're probably right; I didn't even think about that.
can you please fix parts 2 and 3 of your youtube speedruns? i'd love to watch them with sound
Sadly I deleted the video since I already got a better run of 28:17 and I seriously think that I can beat the 28 minute mark this month, so I can't upload this again, sorry. I could upload the 28:17, but as said it won't be that long until the run is finished.
Thanks for your interest though ;]
i just finished recording the run. Final time is 27:50:xx. I'll upload it at the weekend.

awesome, you gona submit that? (sounds like you should)
yeah, I sent mike a message yesterday. the run is open for verification now, I'd be happy if some people interested in this are willing to verify. thanks to all being interested in this and Zenic for posting the xbla times.
where's the verification thread?

I think this is an improvement over the corresponding level in your youtube run, even accounting for your mistake:
ye it is, it's executed better although it's really the same way I do it, it just depends on how late you put the bubble there and how long it stays there. the good thing is that he waits exactly for the right time and so can use momentum. I generally decide to activate the bubble earlier since this is pretty late in the run and it saves max 2 seconds (considering I don't make a significant mistake like in the run posted on youtube).
thanks for your post.
Yeah, that's an understandable amount of caution since it's so late in the run. If you're curious, I msged that guy on youtube for tips and he said, "The timing is much easier than it looks, but only if you know what I'm waiting for! I put Tim directly under the right edge of the stationary platform (the part in his hair lines up with the edge) and then begin moving again the exact moment the cloud platform's hitbox is fully expelled from the canon. (That is, the part you can stand on. Ignore the fluffy underside.)"

If that helps, cool. If not, can't wait to see your <28m video.

yeah, are you gona post that? If you want to wait until it gets on SDA, well that will take a while...
thanks asdkfjaskdf. Nice you messaged that guy. Even in my 27:50 there is plenty of room for improvement, and phase? is a good example for that. If I'll ever run this again I'm sure going to look out for small improvements for every level such like this one. So yeah, your post helps a lot.
If the verifiers choose to include the time for solving puzzles for any reason (the ingame counter stops while solving puzzles) I'm pretty sure I would want to rerun this (Puzzles went as bad as on youtube PLUS on PC you could switch to mouse which I didn't do), and even if it's going to be accepted I don't feel like im finished with braid anymore ;] - So im very thankful for posts like yours.

@ridd3r. I guess you are right. This is my first submission so I got no idea how long this could take. Since I got the feeling you are interested in the 27:50 I'm going to upload it tomorrow.
So I recently picked up Braid again on XBLA. I'm Taco Monster209 on the leaderboard, I had first place for a couple months, and I'm currently ranked 9th with that run with I believe a high 28 minute mark and I'm contemplating making a run of this if anyone is still interested. I don't have a capture card and I'm unsure of whether I want to invest in one since Braid is probably the only speedrun I would end up trying to make. I know at the time I could knock 30 or so seconds off my run, prolly even a minute, because I didn't use the ladder glitch in world 4 (or 5, don't remember which it's needed in anymore) but if there are any test runs I would love to watch em. Honestly, I would just like to see a run posted up, though I've contemplating trying to get back into it, though I don't know if I'll have the dedication with Deus Ex coming out in August. Also, in regards to the puzzle pieces, time isn't recorded (on the XBLA version) during the speed run when accessing any of the portraits.
ralle, is your run of the PC version or the XBLA version? Also, anyway I could take a look at the run? I might be able to help with a few things, though like I said, I haven't touched the game in ages, and I didn't think a 27 minute run was possible at the time, so I'm not sure how much help I could be.
My run is on PC version. Only difference is the rabbit jump though, which only saves 5 seconds or so if done perfectly. 27:50 is not a even perfect time, so the question comes to my mind if you used the last level star glitch in your older runs (it saves a minute). Other than 2 levels or so the 27:50 is similar to the 28:35 posted here, so you may watch this one since I don't have the time to upload it at the moment.
About the puzzles: It is possible that SDA wants to include the time for the puzzles for their own rules, but we'll see that when the verification is done.
I managed to upload the run on youtube finally. sorry guys for the delay. I cut out the puzzling parts to make the video fit in two parts.
