Remember your mantra.
Hey Ya'll,

I've been streaming Blues Brothers for the Super Nintendo for fun between attempts of other games I am more serious about. To be perfectly clear, I am starting this thread to instigate interest in it, and hopefully generate some competition. I am not too serious about running the game itself, but I recognize that the platforming engine here is very speedrun-friendly, and think someone more talented than myself in this genre could produce something impressive.

Blues Brothers is pretty difficult, but nothing too concerning. My first completed playthrough took me 45 minutes, followed by a 41 minute run, then a 32:53 last night. The reason I am bringing this up is I am keen to see how low someone can get this time. The 32 featured several deaths, a couple of which in levels that caused a pretty hefty time loss. Sub 30 should be a piece of cake.

FYI there are 34 levels in 1 player mode, and 20 in 2 player.

If anyone is interested, I will highlight a run and post it for sake of documenting strats. I have some for almost every level, but I feel they would be easier to show than to describe.

Thanks everyone!

I would be very interested in seeing your current best time before I can say where you can save time and how.
I've been trying to run this too, my best time thus far is 27:20 (on my Twitch highlights). I haven't gotten a no-death run yet but I'm slowly improving
Remember your mantra.
My current PB is 27:45

When I improve that I'll make a highlight

^bwahahahaha
I have no idea what they're saying when you pick up the records, but someone in my chat said it sounds like 'Shit' and now I can't unhear it.

Also, I've been doing about 30 attempts a night of this game, but most of them don't get past level 10. As of right now I am going for no deaths, which may yield a sub 26.
Remember your mantra.
Got a 26:17, still with a couple deaths.

The run has been highlighted on my twitch.tv page for anyone's interest. I was able to capture several tricks that are necessary for getting low times.

I'm playing the blue brothers as well, found lots of shortcuts and got a best time of 19:29. It's on my twitch page. Wanna try a race later?

Your run just blew me away, literally. I watched it twice, and took some notes the 2nd time.

I had a funny feeling there were some intended skips in the games, but I hadn't found any. To be honest I actually had no idea you could charge up the records, which was interesting to notice. We came up with several of the same damage boosts, but you certainly have better movement optimization. There were certainly a couple of non-intended skips I hadn't seen.

All the game-intended skips you did I had never seen before, I was suprised to see so many. I was also suprised they were all after level 20, which is unusual, because most games put their skips in the easy levels.

Are you sure you found them all? I haven't been able to find any online resource about this game.

Great run!

Also, I noticed in one level you were using a strat to reload the yellow smasher things, and after doing it a couple times, it completely unspawned. Do you understand how that glitch works?
I found these shortcuts but I'm not sure if these are all the possible shortcuts. I don't know as well how to make the smasher disappear, I usually keep going in and out near the chains and sometimes it just disappears. The other smasher disappear too, but I couldn't make it to do so in this video.
