Heres an idea on how to make fighting Slate useful (I'm too busy to test any of these atm unfortunately).
IIRC that normally the door that leads back into the Hall of Heroes (where Slate yells at you and stuff) is locked during the courtyard battles. However I believe when I was first testing death warp in that area, I did a death jump through that door. I don't remember whether I respawned back in the courtyard or in an area past the door, but I was able to get to the room where slate is dead/dying. It ended up being useless (since Slate wasn't there and the door into the side room was still locked), but maybe it can be used here to advance past the softlock?
I would love to see the Slate boss fight be included in a SS/RTA (though obviously segmented would use HRH to skip that spot altogether), since it would be something AFAIK pretty much unique to this speedrun (can't think of another game where you get to fight a secret/unintended boss in a speedrun).
As to why they took the Slate fight out, I personally don't think it was due to time constraints (seeing as they had 5 years to complete the game). I remember when the game was early on in development the studio said that in BSI they were going to shy away from doing "traditional" boss fights (after people said they didn't like the final boss of Bioshock). It seems more likely to me that they had a finished Slate boss fight in, and then for some kind of story reason (like they wanted an extra choice for the player to "make", which you couldn't do if you fought Slate) and/or game reason they took the fight out (leaving in the methods for Slate's ai in a seemingly unreachable location). Of course, the reason they took it out has practically no relevance to speedrunning, but its fun to speculate.
Finally !! I found the Factory Skip ! I first found this :
it's not really hard to get, and there's a way to manipulate Elizabeth to get her here, when you walk next to her, she will go behind you, you can do this multiple times to get her on the right place. And then i found this :
The jump is really hard to get, and the aiming thing is really important, as it make you stuck then glide to the oher side. It seems that you have to get higher with a strafe jump on the roof thing I jump on in the video, and aim to get stuck and glide, but it's pretty hard, I hope we can find a setup or anything, because it's a really awesome skip.
Yes, sometimes I have to run on the roof and jump on the skyhook re-land to get her here, but well, she gets here eventually. Also I get the other jump easier (not really easy though) if I aim right after I jump.
I found a reliable way of getting her on to the roof: Enter the gunsmith shop, then exit it again. As soon as you load in to the plaza, latch on to the hook as fast as possible, jump on to the roof and look toward the wall. She should appear behind you in a second or two.
Positioning her seems a little tricky, I had to just aim at the side of her to kind of get her where I want her to go, but sometimes she just moves around randomly (seemingly). As far as the harder jump on to the roof, I haven't tried it much. The one time I did make it up I got stuck and had to restart checkpoint.
If you get stuck, you aim and hold left and look left and right until you glide, In facts get stuck is the main thing of this skip. Also, it seems that do the skip right after you get to the plaza don't softlock, so it's cool, because when I did it after entering good time club, Fitzroy didn't spawn and didn't kill fink.
im scared this might be a Segmented trick only unless we find some sort of setup, i have been trying for quite a while and cant get the second jump once, hm. its definitely the hardest skip so far. ill keep trying though.

I've been practicing the trick and was able to get all the way from Liz on the roof to gliding/completing the trick about twice in 20 minutes. I wish I knew why aiming was necessary or what I was really supposed to be doing instead of flailing around hoping for the best.
I've been doing tons of experimenting with this new factory skip, so here's something extremely helpful that works 100% of the time for whatever reason:
(i'll try to be as descriptive as possible)
Dislaimer: Now unless someone actually can, it seems impossible to get elizabeth to warp behind you onto the banister by using para's method until AFTER you enter chen lin's workshop. So, after clearing the initial wave in the plaza, entering chen lin's shop and immediately exiting it to do the trick, it STILL won't let elizabeth warp to me on the banister, no matter how quickly i move to it via the latch after the game loads me back into the plaza.
Here's the trick: - Clear the initial plaza wave upon entering the plaza for the first time, walk into chen lin's shop then immediately walk out of chen lin's shop. - After loading the plaza, wait until the "saving profile" thing at the top right of the screen disappears (if you don't wait then you WILL be soft locked) - Hit the "restart checkpoint" button in the pause menu. - After it loads you back into the plaza, run as fast as possible to the hook next to the banister, land right in front of the right-most window that's facing you (straight ahead), and hold the walk button straight into this window in the wall for about a second or two -while facing the wall, without turning around during these seconds-
I've tested this 4 times now and it's work flawlessly (except once for trying to be speedy and hitting restart checkpoint as soon as the plaza loaded where i found out about that soft lock) every single time. Elizabeth is 100% guaranteed to warp right behind you.
Unless someone has a faster way, this is atleast an easy stepping stool that'll allow for more time to practice the sliding part that comes right after actually getting ontop of the gate.
**** Also, a nifty trick i learned, you can easily steer Elizabeth towards the jumping spot by spamming the button that puts your vision down your sights at her right and left side. She'll complain about the notion of the gun being pointed at her, and jump out of the way. You can very easily use this as leverage to move her into position. The faster you spam it, the faster she moves. Also, moving backwards while doing this is amazing for when u get her by the side of the gate, but she's just one step shy of the sweet spot. She'll move towards you instead of away from you if your holding in the back button while spamming the "aim down sights" button. ****
Now go practice the annoying sliding part that follows this. God is it annoying...
Doesn't matter where you land off the hook. It does seem that you have to be out of combat though, which requires killing the four guards before entering the shop. Once you leave shop and load checkpoint, you can get her in position pretty easily and consistently:
Now someone else find a consistent way to do the second jump
Edit: I got the second jump like five times in the last couple hours of messing with it. Is it perhaps another framerate dependent thing? I've got no framerate cap right now.

That would make sense, it feels like I'm doing it so right and i haven't gotten it once yet out of maybe 2-3 hours of practicing it, my fps is probably lower than average.
Nice, another trick that is only possible on PC. I am now.
EDIT: I think it may be the time for PC to have a "frame rate" category. There are people with bad PCs and people on consoles who can't match these kind of tricks.
If I can do this with framerate cap, I'm pretty sure the frame rate isn't the main thing of this skip, it's just really precise, you'll get stuck if you get to the right place with the ADS, because the ADS change your hitbox a little. You can see this when you're stuck between 2 walls or anything, when you aim, sometimes you will just glide, it's just what happen here. Also I'm pretty sure it will be nearly impossible on console due to precision required.

I got this trick on Xbox 3 times now but man its hard or i need to practice like crazy
I bet you had to grind the hell out of it. I'll wait till a more consistent way doing it before I actually start running. Plus, I'm sure you'll break your fingers on console if you do this for a long time. xD
After you fire the second rocket from the RPG, do a manual reload and you'll begin the reload animation right away. I think you can also fire the first rocket and then quickly switch weapons twice to avoid the run speed slowdown you get after firing a rocket, but I need to test that a bit more.
When you get to the arcade and Liz tries to throw you a coin, don't accept it right away. Instead, click through the tooltip and continue on until you get to Esther. Look away from Esther and then accept the coin toss; Liz will spawn somewhere close to Esther and begin their dialogue immediately. Saves ~3 seconds.
maybe an interesting oob, let's see : edit: didn't succeed in going onto liz head for passing factory gate at the point given by thundrio
arf, you finally got it....
here is some thoughts, but i can't try it right now: -try the cemetery lutece twins conversation skip with the aiming trick -try to use the aiming trick to hold on some walls like in the battleship bay -try to use aiming trick at liz to move her faster to gates
