Bioshock speedrunning
Ok, before I get bashed to death over suggesting a speed run for a game that's not out yet, I'd just like to say a good speed run is the one planned early, so it doesn't take an obscene amount of time to do.

From what I've seen in the demo, most of the game will be taking indoors, which means short distances to run through, there'll be quite a lot of stairs, which you could cut by jumping down, and lots of plasmids to help you do stuff that might otherwise take a long time (i hope out of 70, there will be really useful ones for speed running). This provides very good opportunities for a speed run and numerous possibilities at improving it in the future.

Anyway, I hope to start route planning in early september after beating the game thoroughly at least 2 times.

One of the problems is that my hardware isn't good enough for getting good fps and video capturing at the same time, so the actual speed run will take place closer to the end of the year after a duly deserved upgrade.

Any people wishing to join me in this endeavor are more than welcome and please leave some contact information so we can talk.

P.S. Hello, SDA community ^_^

If you've ever played System Shock 2...just think an incredibly simplified version of that...a run for this would be following the nearly constant way point arrows and stunning enemies as you run past them...and madly rifling through garbage cans for ammo...and the occasional boss fight.

If you end up doing this though try to do it single-segment/no death...since you wouldn't really have to fight a lot in a run, you should have plenty of spare health for how much they make available, and single-segment is just skillful

And welcome  :violin:

Never give up!
You can probably PLAN now, but I'd be very careful showing off anything.  Since the game just came out in the US today (and is scheduled to release on Friday in Europe), the version that can be gotten now is probably still buggy.

If you do anything with the game this early and wind up finding and showing off gamebreaking* tricks, the developers, while patching the game, may make those tricks impossible.  They've wisened up.

At the very least, don't put the trick videos on YouTube where EVERYone can see them.

I'm saying this because I learned such a thing the hard way with Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, when playing through the demo fast was done (even though I wasn't the one to find the gamebreaking tricks).

* When I say "gamebreaking", I mainly mean sequence breaks.  But some "you're not supposed to get there that way" tricks count too.

Somebody posted about this in Newer Console - take a look at it and see if it can help.

I have played the demo and i must say its a very nice and beautiful game.

the first play of the demo took me about 30 mins
the second time i played it it only took me around 17 mins
i think it will be possible to speed-run the demo in 10 mins or even shorter (cutscenes excluded, only counting time when you are able to move around)

too bad there are invisible walls everywhere but looting dead bodies is pretty easy requiring you only to press the use key :I

aiming in the game is a little bit tricky when framerates are going down to 15fps even if i decrease details it wont play much more faster, so i let others speed-run it anyways ^_^
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
It's out now, somebody attempting a run? Myselff, I don't have the game yet, I'll be getting it next week probably, but I'll be away then so I can only start playing in two weeks.
I've got explosives!
I think this would be an immensely fun game to speed run, but, personally, my computer can barely handle regular gameplay - let alone recording at the same time.

Someone with a dual core cpu and high end video card setup needs to get to work on this, because I also think it would be really fun to watch.  There are so many choices to make in approaching each enemy/room that I bet some really creative tricks are waiting to be found.  I can see most runs being pretty minimalist as far as gathering Adam since the big daddies take so long to kill with most early weapons.

King n00b!
Near the end, it's extremely hard to not fight off some of the splicers.
There are also two endings. You have to kill the bigdaddys for one of them.
FF8 & FF12.. Long awaited runs.

Negative. SPOILER ALERT:

When you get to the point where you harvest or rescue the first little sister you get a choice. Your choice reflects your ending. You save all the girls, or even just this one and leave the rest, you get the good ending. If you harvest a single girl you get the bad ending.
