I am quite new to speed running and would like to record some of my game play, but I can't figure out how you guys get just high-quality, flawless recordings of gameplay. I try to use SNES9x to record my gameplay, but that would be considered TAS and I don't always want that. How do I record my TV screen while playing a real console?

Depends I think on what you're willing to pay. From what I googled, the average for hardware to capture game footage is about $100. The most expensive I've seen is $175.

So you have to specifically buy hardware to hook up to your TV to record it while playing on consoles?

*EDIT* Wow..... Thanks, Nate!
