Hello everyone!

I wrote up a beginner's guide over on reddit, but it's outdated now and I felt like I should create a more encompassing guide as opposed to just how I personally attempt to learn games. You can see the old guide here: http://www.reddit.com/r/speedrun/comments/1aux5f/some_tips_for_new_speed_runners/

The new W.I.P. is currently in pastebin form (and will probably remain as a pastebin) here: http://pastebin.com/ex1VK47k

As you can see, it's very much in an early stage of development, and that's because I've asked for input on reddit to make it better and hopefully a place someone can simply skim over to learn various things and answer various questions they may have about speedrunning. I feel that by improving the accessibility of speedrunning, we can make it easier for game communities to grow and develop quicker. I need help with this, as obviously one person cannot possibly know all there is, and that's what I'm here for. You can view the reddit thread here: http://www.reddit.com/r/speedrun/comments/1vpgdy/planning_to_update_the_tips_for_new_speedrunners/

If you have anything you think might be worth putting into the FAQ, learning the games people choose, or anything like that, please post so I can add it to the proper section.

I plan to also include information such as the links to the marathon sub-forum, the GDQ forum, and other things commonly asked for in the Misc. Information section. Things like WSplit and other timer programs will be included in the Setup Stream section.

As always, any help is much appreciated. Smiley

*note to mods* If this belongs elsewhere, please move it to the proper forum.

*I will edit this post with information as it becomes available, as well as with updates/changes to the guide itself. Assuming anyone gives it any attention in the first place of course.

All the things
I set up to work on something similar: https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/speedrunning_guide_looking_for_input_and_thoughts.html

That said, no reason there can't be multiple guides Smiley It also looks like the focus is very different between the two. I can try to help out as necessary.

Oh nice! Somehow that didn't pop up in the search I did... Odd...

Yours definitely looks to be much more in-depth that mine is intended to be for sure, which is great for me because that means I can condense things and make them more... simple? I guess that's the word I'm looking for, Good to know. Smiley
I don't think there's enough charact
Damn. Helping the little men, aye?
Honestly didn't see this coming.
Who knows. Maybe you'll make a "Beginners guide to TAS-ing".
Oh, so many surprises!
