haha, yes.  I guess I'm just frustrated that there's no way to skip this part.  It seems like there should be.
using whathuh's tip in the underdark, i did some more testing there.

I originally planned on killing the dragon with a flesh to stone scroll, but this isn't necessary as he pointed out.  You can also either bribe the gatekeepers (provided you are disguised as drow), OR simply making adalon hostile will open the gates.  So basically the two options are run into the lair and fire a magic missile at her or engage her in dialogue and bribe your way out of the gates.  Either one of these is fast and vastly more reliable than hoping she fails a save against flesh to stone.

updated checklist:

Ch. 1 (Dungeon escape)
-Get the dungeon portal key
-Activate a portal
-Exit Irenicus' dungeon
-Talk to Gaelan Bayle

Ch. 2 (Raise money)
-Get 15,000+ gold
-Talk to Bodhi and side with her

Ch. 3 (Bodhi's Quests)
-Kill (or pickpocket) Mook to get the shipment
-Return to Bodhi
-Kill Gaelan Bayle and get the cellar key
-Kill (or rescue) Palern Flynn in the thieves guild
-Enter T.G. cellar
-Kill Aran Linvail
-Return to Bodhi

Ch. 4 (Brynnlaw and Spellhold)
-Kill (or pickpocket) Perth to get the wardstone
-Enter the Asylum
-Activate Portal to the Underdark

Ch. 5 (Underdark)
-Kill (or pickpocket) Goldander Blackenrock to get the Light Gem
-Enter the dragon lair
-Make the Dragon Adalon hostile OR get her to disguise you
-Open gate and exit the Underdark

Ch. 6 (Defeat Bodhi)
-Enlist Drizzt & Co.
-Enter Bodhi's Lair and access the inner sanctum
-Defeat Bodhi and stake her to get the Rynn Lanthorn
-Talk to Elhan
-Enter Suldanessellar

Ch. 7 (Suldanessellar + Hell)
-Get the 3 artifacts of Rillifane
-Get the stone horn and harp
-Place the 3 artifacts on the temple alter to summon the Avatar
-Enter Palace
-Get nuts from the tree
-Place horn and harp on statues
-Enter tree of life
-Activate parasite #1, kill its 2 guardians, destroy parasite
-Activate parasite #2, kill its 2 guardians, destroy parasite
-Activate parasite #3, kill its 2 guardians, destroy parasite
-Defeat Irenicus, follow him to hell

-Get 1 Tear of Bhall
-Activate the Abyssal Door
-Kill Irenicus
The BaldurManiac
I dont think you can attack adalon and leave.. the door is blocked I believe.

And are you telling me you can get 1 tear and that's it? I have a hard time believing this but I would be darn ashamed of myself for this.
Attacking adalon apparently sets the same variable as making the drow townsfolk hostile (aka it opens the gates).  I just tried it to be sure.

As for the Tears, I found a neat trick that lets you open the gate with just 1.  Ordinarily activating the door with a tear in your inventory will break 1 seal, grant you the bhall power, then automatically remove the tear from your inventory.  If you access your inventory immediately after the seal breaks, however, it will still be there, allowing you to drop it on the ground.  Then you simply wait a second, pick it back up and repeat the process.

Also of note, you will get the same bhall power 5 times instead of 5 different bonuses.  I could foresee this being useful on a SOA + TOB combined speedrun, because the tear you get for killing the dragon in hell gives you +200,000 exp (x5 using this technique = 1,000,000 experience  Shocked ).  This would make any character a lot more formidable.

Bumping this thread with a glitch video.  One of the new exploits I came across by accident is potentially pretty powerful.  Basically it allows you to move in situations when the game intends you to have no control over your character (dream sequences, cut-scenes, etc).  Generally what happens in a typical BG cut-scene is that the party will be teleported to a new area location set up specifically for the scene, where they will be put in a corner of the map somewhere.  You are unable to control the game and simply watch the scripted event play like a movie.  Then you are transfered back to your original area and location.  Alternatively, some scenes take place in the normal game areas and you can see your group but can't control them.

The trick is done by getting someone to initiate dialogue with your party at the EXACT MOMENT that the cut-scene starts.  This is difficult to replicate because if you are a fraction of a second too early the game will pause, and if you are a fraction of a second late, the sequence will already have started.

After many tries, I was able to duplicate the glitch while recording.  This short clip shows how the long scene (2:40 long) in chapter one where Irenicus fights the cowled wizards can be skipped.  What I did here was:

1)pause
2)kick everyone out of the party, but keep them close by.
3)click on the dungeon exit to trigger the cut-scene
4)unpause.  The game then auto-saves for the dungeon exit.  In the short time in between the auto-save and the cut-scene trigger, Imoen walks up to the PC and gives her "Are you sure..." line at exactly the right moment.  You can tell when it works because game screen is black and there is a small glitch in the dialogue box after you talk to her.

http://files.filefront.com/glitch2wmv/;7661284;/fileinfo.html

After that you are free to waltz around while the battle is taking place instead of wasting 3 minutes watching it.  Though not always helpful, this should allow you to be free in almost any dream sequence or cut-scene in the game.  I have not tested it in other games but it would be worth looking into in other infinity engine games like BG-I and IWD.

Nice find!
But that means that you always need to have another party member with you to make that glitch work?

btw: I found a way to skip the prison cutscene in BGI but it's a different kind of glitch.
edit: your glitch could probably used in BGI at the beginning if you get Imoen to initiate the dialog right after talking to Gorion...I'll try that out.
The BaldurManiac
It would indeed work I dont think have imoen during the entire dongeon is that much of a problem.

Well, I'm curious to see how you did this!  Since you are working on another BGI run, perhaps I should record some of the other tricks I'm using for BG II.  I can tell you right off the bat, I didn't know about the force-talk glitch that makes very easy to kill any blue circle enemy in the game.  Its a well-documented trick, not one I came up with.

If you initiate dialogue with a blue circle enemy before they give their rant and go hostile and then attack before the actual dialogue, you can beat on them and they just stand there until death.  Mulahey, Tranzig, Slythe, perhaps Sarevok too.  Almost all the must-kills fall in this category.  Actually, you could probably use this in the Duchal palace too... Force-talk your 2 companions to keep them standing still... hmmm.

Well I was planning on saving my thunder for the release of the BG II run, but there's no sense in keeping secrets if other people are working on infinity engine runs.  Even if it means my BG I run will go down Wink

About skipping the prison cutscene: Go to the upper floor and stand inside the righthand doorway. The gatewarden AND Thethoril will aproach you to initiate their dialogs. Talk to the gatewarden first and then pause the game quickly before you're teleported to the prison. Click on Thethoril and unpause the game. Voila: Thethoril offers you to teleport you into the dungeon! And you've never even been to the prison. Saves ~35 secs

About the blue circle glitch: Do you have to be invisible to initiate the dialog before your enemy does or how does it work?
And how does it work on enemies like Sarevok which will initiate the dialog even if you are invisible.

Also where did you get that glitch from? I never heard about this before.

I used it on my TOB speedrun as well with the slayer and the disguised drow captain. Second segment I believe.
The cutscene glitch doesn't seem to work in BGI.
You can't close the dialog box if Imoen started her dialog after the cutscene mode activated Sad

referring to the blue circle-

I don't have BG I installed at the moment, so I can't try it.  But this how it generally works.  Most important enemies have something important to say before the fight, so they start out as blue circles instead of red.  If you just get within eyesight of them and pause the game, you can click on them with the dialogue option before they automatically start speaking with you.  Then what happens is your character runs up to them and initiates the dialogue, at which point it plays out normally.  What you can do, however, is click on the enemy with a talk icon, unpause the game and let your character start moving towards the enemy, then simply give your character another command (such as walk somewhere else, or attack the npc).  You are then free to attack the enemy and he will just stand there for a round or so without retaliating.  Repeat if necessary.

The blue circle glitch works in BG1! Let's see what I can do with it. Might be useful against Sarevok.. and also Slythe Smiley
I was searching for a better way to kill Slythe but didn't come up with anything good. That glitch might be the solution.

edit: I managed to break the Gorion cutscene. It involves getting the training party into your party. Unfortunately that way you won't get teleported outside Candlekeep Sad
Nice side effect: Gorion vanishes and suddenly it is night in Candlekeep *g*

edit2: force-talk glitch seems to work quite nice at the palace! I do however still use one Otilukes Sphere to place a guard in the middle of the room.

edit3: Doesn't work against Sarevok since he is hostile.

Ok, here are some more glitch demo vids.  (I'll post youtube links after they upload)

First of all, the potion swap trick:  Drink a potion from your inventory screen.  Since the game is paused, it will wait until you return to the game to do this.  Before returning to the game, pick up another item (particularly unusable scrolls, wands, and other potions) and place it in the potion's slot in your inventory.  When you return to the game, it will activate the new item instead of drinking the potion.
http://files.filefront.com/glitch_potionswapwmv/;7738069;;/fileinfo.html

Related to this is the gem duplication trick:  Similar to what julien showed on the BGI thread, you can potion swap a gem two times and receive an absurd amount of them (65,535! i don't know how the game comes up with this number... maybe its the max value an item can have.)
http://files.filefront.com/glitch_gemdupewmv/;7737932;;/fileinfo.html

Now on to a few exploits that I came up with myself Smiley
There are at least two ways of "teleporting" in the game.  Both of them use the same fundamental glitch:  When a character spawns, if the place it is supposed to be is already filled, it will spawn in the closest clear space (even if that space is on the other side of a locked door or thin wall.)

One of the ways you can do this is by releasing a mage's familiar from your inventory.  The familiar spawns where your character is, which pushes your character to the nearest clear space (defaults to the upper left).  Here's a vid of my PC going through a locked door.
http://files.filefront.com/glitch_familiarwmv/;7738070;;/fileinfo.html

By using the shapechange or polymorph self spell, you can use this to more dramatic effect by polymorphing into a creature that has a bigger area circle than a normal PC.  Watch this example where I have covered the nearby area with NPCs and summoned monsters:
http://files.filefront.com/glitch_polymorphwmv/;7738071;;/fileinfo.html

One more for today.  One of the most exploitable things I've found in the game is dialog.  Some of these have been posted already but here's another one.  SOMETIMES (still working on re-creating this on demand) you can talk to 2 npcs at once and the dialog boxes will both activate and both close.  You are then free to chose one of the options without progressing in the conversation.  Here's an example of how this can be used to gain an easy 45,000 party exp. over and over again.  I have trouble duplicating this trick, but what I showed in the vid (including the quicksave and load) always works in that situation.
http://files.filefront.com/glitch_dualdialogwmv/;7738204;;/fileinfo.html

edit: here's another dialog glitch I posted previously in case you didn't see it.

It looks like an unsigned integer underflow.
That's also why you have to do the trick twice. With the first one you reduce the stack to zero, with the second you produce the underflow (unsigned numbers don't have negative values so they wrap around to their max. value, 0 - 1 = 65535 for an 32bit unsigned int)

This one is great. Smiley I was just able to reproduce this in the maze:

awesome.  You are doing some massive damage to BGI.  Can't wait to see a finished run!

I had a thought that it might be possible to use the polymorph self spell with a LOT of summoned monsters to get into candlekeep without having the tome of knowledge.  But I don't know if this will even work and even if it does, I'm not sure how easy it is to obtain a polymorph self scroll without going to Baldur's Gate anyways.  (I don't have the game installed right now)

I once teleported into CK with the teleport cheat to do some testings but I don't remember anymore what the results where.
If all the necessary variables are set without talking to Eltan it might be possible.

One problem remains: Polymorph self is a TotSC item, so I guess the only other places where it is available are Ulgoth's Beard and Durlag's Tower.

Another thing that I'll try out is to teleport out of Candlekeep without going through the crypt.

The whole teleporting thing should also work with Dimension Door (just target Dimension Door on a NPC)

edit: clone rizzo, I found something which might be useful in BG2. It's a glitch to get through locked area transitions like the palace in BG1.
See this video:
http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=A0E3F9C41412867A
The idea is to use Dimension Door on yourself. It will move you a tiny bit up so that you stand inside the door.
(This one is useless in BG1 since the palace is empty in Chap5&6)

Great find.... tough I am not sure if it's that usefull in BG2.

Maybe to go into the silver dragon cave without the stone....

That's all I can think of.

I found another way to abuse dimension door:
http://julien.leetwork.de/bg/dimension%20door%20abuse.mp4
Again this is almost useless in BG1 but it may be useful in BG2.

edit:
Also see this video to get an idea about the possibilities you have with this glitch. This it what I call a real teleport, not that useless stuff that DD normally does Smiley

edit2:
Note that this also works with area transitions:
video

edit3: Concerning the first 2 vids: This also works without a extra NPC. Just talk to the person after you casted the spell but aren't teleported yet.
The area thing probably works with just the PC.
Cast the spell, wait until the door apears and leave the area... this can probably used in a lot of places to save some walking and/or bypass obstacles.

PS: I also put all my other glitch videos up here:
http://julien.leetwork.de/bg/
Wow ... those are awesome...  Unfortunately they took out the dimension door spell in BGII, but i'm going to try to see if getting inside the transition another way would work.

I guess they figured dimension door could be abused Smiley

Too bad that they took DD out..  I didn't know that.

About the dual dialog glitch: How does it exactly work? Do you just give two PCs the command to talk to different NPCs (in different areas?)? I can't seem to get this working in BGI.
It would be awesome in BGI to be able to talk to Eltan twice and get two chapter increases..that way Candlekeep could be skipped completely.
Well to be honest I don't know how to do it all the time.  It works in that situation where I showed and some others.  I know you have to pause the game and tell two characters to talk to two different NPCs... but that alone won't always do it.  It may have to do with the fact that talking to some NPCs pauses the game and for others it doesn't.  It may have to do with talking to two different people in two different areas (like the vid).  Also, as odd as it sounds, it may have to do with loading a game where your characters are in two different areas.  That's my best guess.
clone rizzo, do you know the "script breaking glitch"?
I discovered that you can break almonst all scripts where your NPC will be teleported to some other place.
Here's how it works: Talk with your main PC to the person which will teleport you. Before talking give ALL other PCs in your party the command to leave the area (it doesn't matter in which area they are and they don't really need to leave it, they just need to have the command)
After talking pause the game directly and give your main PC another command (like walking somewhere else) and unpause the game.
Voila, you're not teleported anywhere.
This glitch is particulary easy to pull of if you only have your main PC in your party, than you don't have to give the other PCs commands to leave the area.

Also note that this only works if you talk to the person with your main PC.
It works slightly different with other party members: When a NPCs approaches to start his dialog give the PC the command to leave the area. This of course doesn't work if the NPCs doesn't approach you automatically.

Hopefully this works in BG2. I'm using this in BG1 to get 6 Chapter increases in Candlekeep (using two NPCs, one standing outside on the trigger for the next chapter and one standing in Candlekeep to talk to Tethoril over and over again). This way I can skip ALL chapters Smiley
