Sometimes I get really pissed when Desmond or Ezio just decide "Hey, I don't wanna go the way you want me to" and then either climb the wrong wall, or just do something stupid. I got so pissed at the final part of the game as Desmond and he wouldn't jump where I wanted to in the room that the game ends in.
Hey guys. Here's something I found, as in AC2, which can be sooo useful if we find the way to activate it :

wtf was that?! By useful thing you found, do you mean the part about running fast, or standing diagonally in the ground? Because the latter seems counterproductive.
LOL what a video x) If it could be activated whenever one pleases that would make speedrunning a breeze Cheesy

I did experiment with the arrow storm further. These are what I found.

Sequence 6:
- The first battle at the keep is ended probably about 30 seconds faster with the arrow storm. It's very possible to have every guard in the range of the volley.
- When you're capturing the suits, the northern camp which I mentioned earlier didn't give so many costumes I remembered. So you need to take on at least two camps. One of them should be done with arrow storm. It's just so random how the guards move. Sometimes they pack all in the same place, asy enough to kill. Sometimes they keep their distance and drag horseback guards (I SOOOO much hate those, you can't killchain them) to the fray.
- Arrow works wonders in the Trojan Horse mission. Four spearmen go down in a second. Only bad thing here is that it doesn't really make the mission go faster because you need to wait your troops nevertheless. Agaisnst the papal guards it's mighty useful. When rescuing Pentisilea (or what's her face) you can actually run almost straight to her and kill the Count (or whoever he is) It doesn't matter if he has time to shoot her as long as you kill him exctly at the same time or a bit after that happens. Even in the cinematic afterwards it reads Desyncronised: Ally lost even if you are allowed to proceed Cheesy

Sequence 7:

- My new most hated sequence. The first battle is about three waves of attacking guards (Horseback guards with them x)) They are spread so widely, that the arrow storm is useless. Same goes for the three individual scirmishes you encounter after riding with La Volpe.
- When taking care of the gunmen at the Colosseum I think it might be just a little bit faster to kill them with the crossbow than using the recruits. Or tehn they should be mixed. It's a time-saver if you send a recruit attacking the last guard while you are already on the way to the next checkpoint.
When carrying Pietro to the doctor, there are two guard patrols in your way. You could wait them to pass or... You can run straight to the doctor and use arrow storm to kill them instead. That saves almost 5 seconds Cheesy

Sequence 8:

- No much use for the arrow storm Sad If you time your running correctly, no guards are able to notice you during the infiltration of the castello. Still, if they notice you and you are making a good time, the storm takes care of them and you can go your happy way.
- If you ride your horse to St. Peters Catedrahl where the apple is, the guards can't keep up. No arrow storm needed.
- After getting the apple, you can no longer use the storm Sad And after all getting away of the Vatican is the number 1. priority.
- The big fights with the apple should be done with individual assassin recruits because again there are waves of enemies you don't want to take on alone even with the allmighty apple.

So there is what I found out. The storm is not all that useful but it makes running the game VERY much easier. Especially at sequence 5 it saves lots of time Cheesy

By the way. At the beginning of the sequence 8 I have over 30,000 florins. How should thay be used to make things faster? I thought of buying more ammo to the gun, because you can take a good chunk of energy off the last boss Borgia at the sequence 9 if you shoot him. It would make the tedious fight a bit easier. Otherwise armor or other optional weapons just take time to purchase and you don't need them any way...
For the video I posted : I was thinking to use the fast climbing glitch, in particular for angel castel or collosseum.

And, yeah, another advantage of the arrow storm is the 6 recruits you can call instead. But you won't have time to train them, so be careful : they could be killed in the fights.

You should look at some videos from TheHiddenBlade. For instance I saw a "blitz" fight against the last boss, which is : gunfire/cutscene/gunfire/cutscene/etc ; very fast. Also remember the crossbow : fast, efficient, and many ammo for this ; you should buy this if you meet a cloth shop and a blacksmith.

Your planning seems well done so far ; you've looked for every possibility, especially between nothing/fight/recruits/arrow storm. Just continue like this!
Good news! I'll hopefully be getting my camera back every weekend, so then I can help in terms of what is exactly the fastest way to do something. You probably have it covered, but if you need help, then I'd be more than happy to help.

Also my videos from "ILs" will begin to come soon. At least I hope so, I need disk space to capture for real, and I want to keep all videos until my run is accepted/published (or not).
I've searched all over the internet for good videos af ACB done quick (to see if there are methods that I haven't thought of), but especially Youtube offers very slow and not inspiring runs at all. I'm intending to continue my search but I'm beginning to feel that I NEED to make this run to make even a remotely speedy run of this game for people to view Cheesy

What I need to find out yet, is how many handgun bullets/crossbow bolts I'm intending to use in the run. The initial given ones might just be enough, but in case I need more, looting guards' bodies offer more throwing knives and bolts if there is luck involved. The places I know I'm using them are:

Sequence 3: Shooting 2 of the captains for Borgia towers. The one going to the mercenaries can't be air assassinated while riding past with a horse, at least I think so, he is so packed with guards all around him that I'm destined to kill one of the guards instead and then it's a ruined segment. Instead, shooting him atop a building he can be aimed pretty precise and while being on the roof it takes less time to climb to the tower afterwards.

Sequence 5: I will be shooting the Banker. When the assassination begins, I kill the guard in front of the hay bale, run for the stairs and BANG, he is dead, short and sweet.

Sequence 7: Colosseum gunmen are safer to put down from distance because if they catch even a slighest glimpse of me, it's desync. I can use the crossbow in the little skirmishes at the beginning of the sequence if the attackers are far away from each other.

Sequence 8: I'll be using crossbow if needed to kill the guards so that I'm anonymous when entering the checkpoints. With crossbow I can keep constant motion but not with the gun.

About the crossbow... I think I will have enough money for it at the beginning of sequence 6... The banker chapter will take my hard earner 3000 florins and Leonardo takes over 10,000 for the jumping gloves, but luckily the missions after that give me decent amount of money. Most sequences start from Assassin's hideout where there are shops very near. I think I can replenish my ammo there at the sequence 8 if needed...

I'm itching to start recording something and give this game some justice.
Have you had a look at TheHiddenBlade? http://www.thehiddenblade.com/category/assassination-style/acb/blitz
Well, are't those some inspirational vidos Cheesy How come I didn't run into them? Especially the throwing knife Banker assassination seems very fast. And after the kill, you are closer to the place you need to be running afterwards. Sweet! I need to see if I can pull it off Cheesy
LOL @the migraine collection! Probably makes the fight a lot easier, too.

I think the gun is even better for this final fight.

Edit : I've begun to run as ILs (~casual). Here's the playlist, just follow it when I'll say it's updated.

Edit history:
velocikiller: 2011-05-09 11:37:12 am
should there be 2 different IL tables? One for 100% synch and the other for any%? The reason it would be any would be for the lair of romulus that requires itself to be beat in under 8 minutes. a 50% total synch would be lame for that, wait over 8 minutes and beat it.

EDIT: Also, are cheats allowed for replayed memories?
Yeah maybe there would be even 3 categories (100%, any%, low%). But what I do is only casual for the moment, in order to propose routes.

I think cheats can't be accepted since it's, of course, cheating. Also it would be really too easy (maybe a different category? dunno).
Spare me from ever watching the low% lairs of romulus. As for the cheats, I haven't used any yet anyway, so I don't really know how useful they can be. I only know about the unlimited assassin signals, but I've never 100% synched that sequence.

There's also invincibility (?) and unblockable assassinations that could be useful. But they're all cheats, so not for SDA.

Edit : my playlist is up to date until Sequence 1 Memory 4.
LOL, Fed I thought you said how you don't have time to run this game xD Nice videos though, is your strategy at catching the horse a foolproof one? In my experience, sometimes I catch it pretty easily in the first possible spot and sometimes it just isn't co-operating and runs back and forth like an idiot x) Your platforming skills are superb, I think I'll copy your route in all the climbing parts if you don't mind Cheesy

I don't want to speedrun for real again (for the moment). I see you're fully motivated so a run of this game will be done. What I've made is completely casual (I deleted the videos from my computer). Also, these are my routes, and you can use them as much as you want, it has been made for that.

For the horse, remember it's crazy and tries to flee when you approach. As you see in my video I come from behind, so that he tries to run into the tree, and that's how I catch it. But if you manage to catch it before, it's better, of course.

By the way my playlist is updated to Sequence 1 Memory 6 Sequence 2 Memory 6.

Hey Fed, I watched your speedruns up to the point you are in and I'd like to say something about them:

- The Sequence 1 can't be done much better routewise. If battles go well, it'll be a breeze. About the  villa attack. Am I right to assume the cannon fight always lasts the same time? The only thing killing the enemy cannons does is prevernting the Villa falling -> desync?
- Have you timed which is faster in the start of Sequence 2, walk to the left or to the right... I thought the left path was faster, but I actually didn't time it myself... Gotta do it.
- Nice hyperblend there at the first memory of Seq 2! Unfortunately I can't do that cause I'll be collectin money for the sequence 3 pickpocketing.
- Good idea to punch Macciavelli forward it does indeed make it faster! I'm gonna try if I can punch him forward and steal at the same time or does that make it slower to constantly rush to the crowd to steal and come back to punch the guy... I need to collect 2500 florins after all and beside the one treasure in the way I'm intending to do pickpocketing cause it can be done with a forward motion.
- I'm looking forward to the Halls of Nero. I think with your platforming skills it will be destroyed Cheesy Even the fastest Youtube videos of it are SOOOO slow X)

BTW French Ezio sounds hilarious Cheesy

In my opinion, and after a few tries, I think the time depends on the sentences of the mercenary, which depends on both : cannons destroyed and people escaped. So try to destroy as many cannons as possible.

I didn't know about any way to the right, so you'll have to time it. By the way, taking the horse is NOT faster ; I've timed this (with the way on the left).

Yeah, it was more to illustrate hyperblending in ACB than something very useful (unless you can normally air assassinate at the end from the horse).

If you don't punch him constantly, just let him walk, because he stops a little each time you stop punching for more than a second, and this costs time.

Yeah, I've begun to record it, but I'll do it in 2 segments finally (too many tries screwed up). Anyway, you won't see or hear the segmenting, and there'll be a lot of shortcuts.

For me, english Ezio sounds also hilarious, or at least a little weird, so don't worry!

Edit : so that you know it, I discovered that, in Sequence 9 Memory 1, you can go to the checkpoint (after the horse falls down) without being detected. You just have to go as on the left as possible at the beginning, then I don't remember the exact route.

LOL, I actually discovered this by accident when I was first time training Speed Running the sequence 9 Cheesy The other two checkpoints not so much luck.

If the mail is working properly I should have required recording device this week to start uploading something. But I don't want to get my hopes up, it has been kinda frustrating with those devices 'till now.

And I must say this, even though it has nothing to do with speedrunning:

FINLAND WON THE ICE HOCKEY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! (To us Finns it's the most valuable thing to win at sports in the whole world)
I've been thinking about the Assassin's Creed series a bit, and I'm wondering if, Fed981, you would be willing to do Assassin's Creed 1. If not, then maybe I could try it or something. Just a thought anyway.

The halls of Nero will be amazing to watch. I hope it will be one of the nicest looking parts of the run. From the looks of it, a lot of the run will be groundwork so climbing won't be all that common.

Congrats to Finland for winning! Great when people celebrate together, isn't it?
I never played AC but I watched a walkthrough. You know, it's the previous version, so I don't like it compared to AC2 or ACB. I even uninstalled AC2 now that I have ACB. Also I find this game is too repetitive (?) so you'd better do it, velocikiller. Of course I'd be glad to help a little.

@fluojn : I can't wait to see your overall plan.

By the way, I finished the halls of Nero. I can't upload it at the moment because of my AC2 run upload, but I timed it and it's 5:47 (player control time).
I'll support you 100% if you start running veloci! The original game was awesome but pretty repetitive. And there are many loooong cutscenes that can't be skipped. It requires lot of planning and patience though. Dig up the old AC thread and begin planning Cheesy

I think I have my plan pretty much covered... I need to put something on video so you can say what you think. Other people's comments can give you an angle you never even thought about yourself... I'm bursting to start recording already x)
Before being sure of your plan, you should have a look at TheHiddenBlade's forum too. Here's something very interesting I found quite quickly :
