I think the SDA community has no reason to be so insecure, that another community getting recognition would bother us.

Nothing to do with insecurity. We've had a lot of threads in the past derail and dissolve into a circlejerk of TG bashing that is neither productive nor becoming of our website. Idk how long you lurked before making an account but just since I joined in 2007 there have been many. So our strategy now is to kill them before they have a chance to start. TG's inconsistencies don't need to be discussed here.

Oh no no. I don't mean that to criticize your moderation policy on that, just the opposite.  I just don't see any reason SDA should be *bothered* by TG getting recognition.

I'm not a fan of TG but I don't see why it should be seen as a threat to SDA that some people like, use, or promote TG "records."

I should apologize for making another thread then. I haven't been here that long so I honestly did not know the members of SDA's opinion. Other places on the Internet actually defend these "give me a WR" categories.
I think you're making a big deal out of nothing. The title of "world record" is completely meaningless on its own. Anyone who is involved in the game is going to recognize the run for what it is, regardless of it's status as a world record, and anyone who isn't involved enough to differentiate a good run from a stupid one isn't going to give two shits anyway. So either way he gets no recognition whatsoever.

Quote from Alko:
What probably everyone's thinking but nobody's really saying out loud:
Most if not all 'special' categories, i.e. those that are not SS/segmented and percentage derived (or immediately offered by the game; think different characters such as Max and Goofy in Goof Troop) are built around making the game harder or more impressive to play/beat/speedrun. e.g. 'Small Mario only' makes a Super Mario Bros 3 all levels run more impressive, because you can't damage boost. Those categories are probably easily accepted by the game's speedrunning community, are probably considered 'legit' (even if they may not be featured on SDA for whatever reason).
On the other hand, a category 'no skippable cutscene skipping' adds nada to the impressiveness or skill-level of a speedrun. Very unlikely that such a category will be accepted by the game's community. I would assume it not to be considered 'legit'.

Also, discussion on the SDA forums should be about SDA, speedrunning in general or on SDA in particular. Discussion on the SDA forums should not be about Twin Galaxies, the Guiness Book of Records or which categories either of them calls legit. The relevant forums if existant should be used. (My 2¢)

Well we have a general gaming forum here, but I agree that this forum (SDA Discussion) should just be stuff about SDA itself (because otherwise the name doesn't make sense).
