It's weather time!
Yeah, basically I started at an hour and now I'm working on sub-40. I know about most of the tricks in %100 (though Twitch only works on my computer when IT wants to, so I'm not exactly up-to-date with all of the newer runs yet).

Off-screen tile swapping does come in handy, especially given how I choose to tackle the Archives. The biggest, most difficult thing is just making those swaps quickly, smoothly and consistently throughout a run. That and keeping wiggles to 6's and 7's helps.

Yeah, it's not that much slower to do %200. Though, in my route I don't pick up any health bugs/fairies, broom extensions, or fight any bosses. So it would of course depend on what type of %100 route you're comparing it to (bossless/+bosses).

I'm going to be doing submission attempts for 100% tonight, because i have started re-learning my route Tongue and thanks to Japanese language support, I'm 20 seconds up by the swap broom, so sub 34 run (and possibly sub 33) is looking very likely. Smiley
It's weather time!
Awesome! Hope you get that sub 33!

One quick thing.
I'm not sure if this should be in a separate thread or not; but just what "official" categories are there as of now?

Edit: I realized this might be retreading another question I asked earlier. Don't have to answer.

If this ever actually gets answered we may have a new classification for Any% NG / Any% NG+ --> Question
Could be that glitches set up before a "New game" is started might not be counted into the run time meaning quicker runs ... obviously

I've actually been developing an "All Bosses" route and was wondering if that would be something people - other than myself - would be interested in running. Hopefully, to make it a sort of official category (people race to Spore Spawn after all, why not this?)
just wanted to drop by again and say thanks for doing these because they are very cool!!! Smiley (and that I posted a thread where i'm looking for some advice on things to keep in mind for speed running while creating our next game..) https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/advice_on_designing_a_game_with_speed_running_in_mind.html
Death from above.
Darnit ! I stayed for the whole marathon, I just got back and now I see that ProfessorBroman had a run. I am so mad that I didn't see it on the bonus schedule, I would've loved to join you for the commentary Sad  Anyways, that was a fun run to watch, thanks Broman =)

Indeed.  Nice run Prof. Broman!  It was a pleasant surprise after the Dust:AET run was finished Smiley
P.S. I think I posted an easier version of the "WR strats" for hovering over the pits - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12512550/games/anodyne-shoeless-new-strat.webm here it is again, if you're interested.
P.P.S. - I was tearing my hair out after the run was over - you were looking for Rank, not Goldman!  You actually stumbled into Goldman's house in your search, too  Tongue

THANK YOU lifning! Lately I've been working on routing All Bosses so that it includes pit skip and was trying to figure out a consistent way of doing it. The skip only saves about 2 seconds off of Hazdogga's and Judgy's current Fields strat for that section, but it's potential time saved anyway.

Btw, I might just be a dunce but I'm not sure how to get the Japanese text into Anodyne which I think would be a big time saver for All Bosses seeing as every boss has dialogue. Is there a guide anywhere or something that would help?
intranational speedmoseyer ordinaire
Depending on the version you have, Menu -> Config -> Language may be able to be toggled between "en" and "ja."
I've heard the Japanese version is a separate download on GOG, but I don't have first-hand experience there.
It's weather time!
There we go! Huh, I had tried that before and it didn't want to work. Oh, well. In any case thanks again!

Hey guys. In case you didn't know me, I'm running this game now- ran 100% live at IndieCade East with Sean and Jon there, it was ridiculously cool.
I was ready to grind out some runs and PB when I made a mistake while trying to start my splits.

I start splits with the tilda key, which is directly below the escape key, and I missed, and hit Escape. Some really weird stuff happened.

Watch this:

So, I didn't mention it in the highlight, but the only thing that is saved from the previous file is the location. None of your items are saved, and no cards, so one can't get everything in a save file, start a New Game with controller rebind glitch, and then have 37 cards and walk into the Briar fight for a 2:00 100%.

Although, since you are in the final area, any% would be 2 minutes, just wiggle glitch into the credits.

This is probably New Game+, by definition, considering it requires a previous file to work, so it might be a different (and terrible) category altogether.

There's also a lot of very strange (albeit inconsistent) things you can do in the game if you bring that rebind menu up on the same frame as entering a loading zone. You can not get the menu box off the screen, unless you bring it up again and rebind your controls so the menu works again, and sometimes if you have this up, you can skip text triggers. I skipped the text trigger for the Sage fight, and I skipped the Sage's backstory monologue at the beginning; I couldn't do either of them again.

There's definitely some awesome things you can do with this.

Well. Guess I'm not sleeping tonight. I have quite a number of theories I want to try out just seeing the highlight.

[Edit] So apparently you can broom box glitch on top of the Rebind glitch. So that's... something.

This is a 7 minute stream which I was intending to post, but all of the theories I tried failed, but you can see them just to see if I'm doing something that interests you.

http://www.twitch.tv/chiron97/b/506630223

This is the longer stream in which I discover the glitch, and then test random stuff for a while (and answer phones and laugh really obnoxiously at everything for a while and hum songs)

Just for your research.

It's weather time!
I'm going to propose a question here since I don't think it's worth starting another thread over.

One of the verifiers on the AB run I submitted offhandedly mentioned a possible glitchless category. My question to fellow Anodyne runners is: if I were to plan a route for glitchless, would the fall trick/warp trick count as "not a glitch", as it is, iirc, the intended way to get the Red card? (If I'm incorrect about that I retract that statement. And for the love of God tell me the intended way!) If so then I think I can make a glitchless route a bit interesting.

This leads me to another question, in glitchless you wouldn't skip the "36" gate, so do the 36 cards have to be the intended non-swap cards? Because I know for a fact you can sequence break to some cards early with fall trick should it be allowed. This could make it possible to skip more out-of-the-way cards like the one in the Cell, or the Lion card in the Circus requiring a tricky and potentially time-wasting jump to reach normally.
Terrible at games
Fall trick/warp trick definitely falls under a glitch- it's not exactly intended, and is an exploit of what falling does, so technically is a glitch.

I also think that the non-swap 36 cards should be in there anyway, just as a matter of it making a bit more sense.

I have a quick question about 100%. I've been reworking the route, hoping to improve on Hazdogga's 34:29 run, and when watching that run I noticed that he skips Sage. I realize he doesn't drop a health bug or anything important towards 100%, but my question is why do we skip Sage but not Briar? (Since Briar, like Sage, can be skipped and doesn't drop anything necessary to the category per se.)

It's not that big of a deal since it's not like it makes the run any harder/easier, but I was wondering if there was a reason for it. Mostly just out of curiosity.
It's weather time!
Sorry about the double post, but I wanted to update the thread with a bit of research I've been doing revolving around JP/EN dialogue. I made a list of all of the relevant dialogue for Any%, 100% and All Bosses and compared each dialogue box length (from the first frame it appears to the first possible frame you can cancel it) and listed how much time is saved for each one. I might still work on this later for relevant Glitchless and 200% dialogue, but that's for another day.

I did this to add a bit more context towards time savers as far as dialogue is concerned. In other words, you won't have to guess how much time is saved from skipping a particular dialogue box/cutscene, and thereby can use it to determine if certain detours are worth it, or whatever, really. http://pastebin.com/bGDREYCC Hope this helps in some way.

This thread hasn't been updated in a bit, but I have a proposal and I wanted to see how fellow runners felt.

I know there was a mention of possible 200% not too long ago (in fact October of last year according to this thread). Now, I feel like this run could have potential as an extension of 100%, but there's one HUGE problem with the stipulation that will pretty much guarantee no will run it: the ???? items. Specifically the Green Box. The box that requires you to literally do 0 inputs for 2 hours 15 minutes (yes, I timed it). I've been attempting to glitch past the gate blocking it (I was trying to jump and screen transition and get hit by the bat on the screen below in a way that the knock-back wouldn't register until after the screen transition - I got it to happen a few times but could find a way to glitch past the gate in the end).

I have also been tinkering with a path for 200% but that item throws a giant hamper in ever running the category - even if someone did run it once (even for lulz) I highly doubt anyone's going to bother optimizing it after that. On top of that the items only serve as Easter Eggs with no real gameplay purpose besides collection (unlike the cards - even the extra ones).

My proposal is that for 200% we either cut out the ???? items altogether and collect everything else, or simply cut out the Green Box. Maybe then there'll be a snowball's chance in Hell of someone picking up the category. What do you think?
intranational speedmoseyer ordinaire
Maybe call it "everything but Green Box" or "192%" or similar?  Cutting out Green Box from what we call "200%" now might make nomenclature awkward if someone hypothetically does find a way to glitch past the gate and make it a plausible part of the route.

That's actually a good question, since it's finishing the game with 100% completion and it's already not all bosses, so technically I guess Briar Skip would be good for 100%. (I'm 3 months late? Who careeeesss.) Also, I'm doing a 100% run in 5 days during the SRC marathon, so maybe I'll make it a bidwar over whether to fight him or not xD (My donation incentive now is Sage fight so)

Welp. Guess I should get my hands on the Japanese version for the marathon then. A minute is decent in 100% definitely.

It's Anodyne. There is a way.

We beat the Briar because as a community, we agreed that beating him was an essential part of the story line and one that contributes to a standard 100% completion playthrough.

On the other hand, beating Sage really adds nothing, regardless of whether you're doing a normal playthrough.

I'm going to start playing this game again, I never got to play 100% on Japanese and complete a run, I want to try and push 30 mins if that's at all possible.

Also going to give any% a try, see if I can get my own sub-5. Just while I readjust to the game's mechanics.

Long time no see, folks.
