Heres an idea for the site.I know its called Speed Demo Archives, but how about putting a section for great side game runs or something (like lorax86 re4 knife fights/merc runs)
Speaking of site ideas, the News section is looking kinda crappy at the present moment, at least using my IE6 browser. Just in case no one has noticed yet.
>> but how about putting a section for great side game runs
Radix has already told us that he's not interested in processing high-score-runs, skill-runs or story-runs. you can probably find his statements by using the search function.
>> but how about putting a section for great side game runs
well, don't use IE then :p It looks perfectly fine in Mozilla, and the html/css is valid. Why don't you post a screenshot?
I tried to paste the jarbled mass of text but "I cannot use 'vowel #5' on this forum. I fail at English."
Radix got sick of seeing that letter standing alone as a substitute for 'you' months ago, so he put in a feature to prevent it from ever being used that way. It has its side effects, of course, but Radix accepted those, and I can clearly see why he does.
For the sidegame runs, I'm sorry, but if you want that you'll have to look at another site. Runs with high score or massive skill would only be accepted if the high-score or skill part is a side-effect of very fast speed - if score and skill are the main focus, that's not our department. Our department is speed, and speed only.
For the news? It looked fine to me on Internet Explorer. If it's not the browser, my guess is that it's your screen resolution.
Take a look at the queue sometime... Radix is already barely keeping up with the amount of speedruns that come in. He's too busy to start accepting more types of videos, even if he wanted to.

Yeah, it's actually quite odd how many videos suddenly hit him, I remember the beginning of the summer the queue was a deadzone; then once summer was closing, BOOM, tape overload. Does that happen every year?

No. Tom Votava (SP?) came in.
Let's hope others will take it one at a time, or else it'll make Radix sad.
I would suggest capping your own trick and/or skill runsf, then submitting them to the google video site or upload them to archive.org, ourmedia.org, then post the links in the forum.
I would love to see a really pure speedrun section, and by pure speedruns I mean runs that are: 1. Around 1 hour long. If they are too long, thats just not very speedy. I feel that a speedrun should be able to be watched during ones lunchbreak, or something like that. Good examples are, Starcraft and Zelda: wind waker, very long ones. probably just as awesome as the quake run but still, somehow not really kocher. 2. No rocketjumping/gaussgunjumping or flying to the boundries of the map to skip parts, half life 1 speedrun hrrm. I still love the run but that part is just not very impressive at all. It said something in the rules page about leaving the map, and I beleive this qualifies as leaving the map.
And no, I have never submitted a speedrun, I just love watching them, but I do get dissappointed when the feel of the game gets lost in the run, like the hitman 2 one I downloaded, not from this site, but it was shot from a 1st person view and thats not hitman at all, in my eyes.
Alot of whining, I know, keep up the Godlike work and keep delivering runs, I just want a section for the pure ones :).

I know I already accidentally quoted and posted this under another topic *teh shame and I repent* but its so divine its worth mentioning again. The only great run worth mentioning is this one: http://www.forumplanet.com/planetdeusex/topic.asp?fid=2072&tid=1010410 read it and be filled with joy and awe. That is the GOD of great runs
Ok, your idea of a pure speed run section is crap. We already have a search function that lists the games by game time. People actually love some long speedruns, because they are a strong test of endurance and may include risky tricks that make them all the more diificult, and thus amazing. Half life speedrun does not exit the level boundaries, and a run not using rockets or gauss or whatever probably won't be accepted because they are all legit tricks. If you don't like the Hitman runs, you could make runs that achieve SA rating, and get the Hitman feel of it. Hell, I know I would watch them.

1. A speed run is a speed run regardless as long as it tries to complete the game in the least amount of time possible, so why create a "Pure Speed" section that is independent of the Any % runs we already have on the site, just because you don't like speed runs after a certain length in time? Just go ahead, sort by time, and download the runs that appeal to you time-wise. No need to alienate other runs just because they don't fit into an arbitrary time limit.
2. Not happening. It's like doing a 31 star Mario 64 speed run when there's already glitches that we can use to get us down to 16 star completion, or doing a Metroid Prime run without doing accepted and well known sequence breaks to get a slightly higher low % speed run because you don't agree with a few tricks that are used. It just isn't happening.
my understanding is that the half-life run was a special case; you will seldom to never see crap like that in other runs. as for the time limit, if you see something over 1 hour, don't download it ...
What I believe he's referring to are runs that go the intended route.
Not that I would completely incourage this, but I think it would be a nice addition. However, intended routes probably wouldn't be as impressive because of the lack of shortcuts/tricks.
It's personal opinion. Some tricks that are used are deemed cheap by some people while completely valid to others. It's like that flying cardboard trick in Half-Life 2, I don't like it much. :-/
I'm pretty sure deerman was reffering that anything over an hour wasn't truly fast. Poor him; no Ocarina of Time.
Just needs to download the ones he want and not complain, since some people actually like seeing freakishly long games beaten ina relitavely short amount of time (like the not-new-game-+ Chrono Trigger run).

I think Sirlin sums up anything that need to be said about cheapness. If you won't read, it just says that if a thing you find overly advantageous unfair, then either learn how to counter it, abuse of it or play another game, or else you won't be able to be truly good. If you don't care about being good, then that's okay and play matches without the "cheap" things.
I've been called cheap in Continuum by my friends, then again, if you got pwned 20 times in a row you'd be sayin it too, as for this run stuff, I say that if you don't like the runs then go out and make your own site and don't bug the people here

Secret tech! If it's acting up, you can just post "blah" or something, then edit it and it'll work. You could probably get around the "too many characters" problem too this way, but I haven't tried.
The funniest are on the ZSNES forums. I don't check there anymore, but they do stuff like replace ZNES with "ZSNES (btw im dumb)" and Top Gear with "that game that sucks because it doesn't have a gun on the hood" (someone said that about Top Gear once).
