Hey Scoot, sorry for not answering. You should take a look at the SDA youtube channel and look for AdamAK's run for AGDQ / SDGQ. That's a good start because he explains a lot and it should get you into the speedrun.

That's the AGDQ one. But there should be another one somewhere.
Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate the responses. I am currently looking into AMFP but I will definitely check those videos out for future reference.
I saw the SGDQ Amnesia Speedrun and was quite fascinated (as I thought back to when I was playing the game quite the normal - and "being scared" - way). Thus I wanted to try too. Copying what I saw in the mentioned run and also having found MrWeables's runs on YouTube, everything went "fine" (well I failed often enough, especially the part with jumping onto the window ledge from a ledge besides it - tons of fails here; I might do something wrong here though) in that I made everything work... Until I got to the guest room and tried the bookcase clip into the wall... No matter how often I try to copy what I see in the videos, it will not work Sad
Any ideas why that might be? Any tips? All I know is that it should be one of the easiest tricks in the game... But why is it not working for me then (E.g. I was able to do the window clip in the room before this without problems)? I am not sure if this is the right thread/sub-forum, but I would appreciate any ideas on how to overcome this. Otherwise I probably would not even bother going on with the rest of the tricks.

Thanks in advance and hello everybody Wink

Hey Uulfaz,

I don't see any reason why that clip wouldn't work for you. Things you could check for:
- Is your health high enough when you try to do the clip? It may be hard with low health, due to the reduced running speed.
- Do you jump into the crevice between the bookcase and the wall, or just run into it?
- Have you tried wiggling around a bit (shaking the mouse left-right) when you're in the correct spot?

uulfaz: what version are you playing on? Because I know someone else who has the same problem. He's using the "official" release from the Frictional Games site not the steam version.
@AdamAK: "A few cuts and bruises", jumped right intro the crevice in such a way that I will not fall back to the floor and then wiggled the mouse. I tried this with different mouse movements, walking or running into the jump and when hanging there between wall and bookcase, with only +forward as well as with left strafe and alternating left/right strafe, looking straight into the crevice vs. more to the wall (basically, whatever I could think of). Nothing seems to work, for whatever reason.

@ShadowDraft: This might just be it, though it is an eastern europe retail version and not the download-release. Damn... So this small-scale speed running career seems to be shut down before it even began Tongue
Well... Maybe if Steam ever has Amnesia on sale, right now the price is a bit high to have a bit of fun trying the speedrun-tricks.

Thank you both for your quick and helpful answers Smiley

Sorry for the double post. I'm not sure if it is okay to post in this thread, but I did not want to create a whole new one in the casual speedrunning section for this "little" update / sharing (or should I have?).

The bookcase clip still doesn't work, also there is a second one that I am unable to do (the clip in the choir area before getting the third orb peace), and I dare saying it's not only me sucking at it, since everything else works fine. The only other thing I can complain about is that while loading an area, my game almost always "stops responding" for a while, which brings my loading times up to 20 seconds (averaging around 13-14 seconds). I hope that Amnesia will be on sale for Halloween. If so, I am going to catch a steam version.

Well... So much for that. The actual reason why I post here is because I am happy about getting sub 40 (39:23) for the first time after a good two weeks of practice with doing 2-3 attempts a day (my friends aren't into this stuff, so I share it this way Wink ). When I was learning the route around two weeks ago, I stopped my loadtimes on four occasions, all of which added up to times around 7:30 (+-20 sec). So I guess the actual time is around 32 min (Though I did not record the run and thus I cannot check the precise loadtimes - my notebook is somewhat close to overheating just running Amnesia alone). I know that this is still around 5 min from anything even remotely close-to-world-record stuff and thus not worth meantioning here, but for me it was nice (I am speedrunning for the first time, discovered all this just a few weeks ago; before that I thought that only Quake and stuff like Super Mario Bros. got speedrunned and that those are very minor game-specific (internal) communities - though I am glad to find out that it is not like that).

I got trolled in the storage by the first monster and got stuck for a while in the inner sanctum (this one feels very random, sometimes I slip through in 2 seconds and sometimes I run my head against the wall for minutes), plus I can gain 5-10 seconds here and there (actually in many areas). So I think I can manage to get it down at least another 2 minutes, should I practice some more. On the other hand, my semester just started this week, so I am unsure about how much time I am going to have in the near future.

Well... Sorry for the long post and thanks (as well as apologies) to anyone who managed to read this product of my "victory-high" Smiley

Good job uulfaz. And a nice PB. Load times for PC games actually do not count because it's different for every player. So you made the right choice with your timing. If you ever record a run just add those up and subtract it from your total time. That way you get your actual game time. I assume Frictional Games might've put in some invisible walls in the areas you mentioned it's a common method to "fix" these glitches. But the steam version should be alright in that regard as I never had problems with those areas.

i did something stupid at the ending (it's just a cute glitch)
Hello everybody, I'm also trying to learn how to run this game and I got the same problem as uulfaz with the bookcase... and I'm on the 1.2 version also not by steam....
So I try to search arround what could I do and I discover that it's still possible to clip oob on the "unsafe" (key) room
So here is basically what I do (longer than the bookcase, but still quick enough)
Taking the bar to open the door, use a chair on this bar to open it quickly (and brutally) then go behind the door on the corner and clip/jump through this corner. Can take one or two try, but quick enough to do it before grumpy scarface arrive, and put me on the other side of the wall

Hope that can helps !

It's best to pickup the steam version. It's been on sale several times so money shouldn't be an excuse. The next sale will start on the 19th this month and will continue until january, 2nd . Grab your copies everyone!
Yeah I recommend the steam version. I bought mine during the Halloween sale. Now, the bookcase clip is the easiest thing in the world and the clip for the third orb piece works without problems. Same goes for the Inner Sanctum clip, which made me try for four minutes at times. First two were impossible before, the latter just was way harder for some reason. Also, while one can skip a cutscene in Black Hall coming down from the Study in the steam version, I could not with the other version. Same thing with the cutscene in Cistern Entrance. Only downside: The clip in Cistern Entrance coming from the Morgue somehow seems a little harder for whatever reason!?

it seems that you also can clip on the other side with the wall between the fireplace and the corner directly on the right after the door.
I also succeed to go throught with a chair, but it triggers the grumpy guy arrival.
Seems quicker than going by the bookcase

Edit : here's a video of this glitch :

Sorry PetroleVB but a perfect bookcase is still faster than the fireplace wall since it looks like you can't make the wallbreach within the flashback time while you can do it on the bookcase which actually saves quite a few seconds.
That trick is fairly dangerous too because you trigger the grunt while still being inbounds. If the AI decides to ignore the obstacles in it's way you're in for a world of pain.
Totally rad
Even if the clip could be reliably performed during the flashback, it would still be slower than the book case clip, since it would require you to walk a bit more. I wonder if it would be faster for 100% segmented, though. Cool find, Petrole.
Get over here!
I don't know how the segmented 100% route looks like but that might be a possible improvement. Then again I'm not sure what 100% includes too. You could go around the map/room and collect all the notes from oob. Possibly use the save warp to gain a few seconds too.
I succeed once to get it before the end of the flashback, but hardly and I also was thinking that you have to walk a bit more yeah :/
Thanks for your replies Smiley

Main Work!!!
hello there everyone, I'm back but with a new computer this time, I though about restarting running this but I'll start with the SS with reset and repractice my 100% run, on the run Mr.Weable currently have, I found a couple of small improvement, in the choir you can go oob beside the Iron maiden and still go trigger with a boost jump the ''higher'' kill zone and grab a Laudanum at the same time, you can allow yourself to just jump at the beginning of the Nave and grab a Laudanum after with that one, which the two of them together, save about 16 seconds. in the Inner Sanctum, we shouldn't activate the switch, in my opinion, if we miss the wall clip enough time that the Shadow catch up on us(we probably have something like 4 seconds to execute the glitch) then, it doesn't worth the run. The new Nave clip after the Choir is nice but slower for sure.

Outside of that, welcome to Scoot and Petrole, upcomming nice new trick soon, I'll repractice a month or two, then I'll restart recording runs and tricks, and btw, nice find Petrole but unfortunately, it's slower in both Any and 100% :/ . but keep on the great work.

I've record a really rough and bad version of it but you can see the result, I'll encode it then after my upload, I'll edit this post!

Edit: Here you go(edit in the worst possible quality, but still visible so meh...)
That's a very big time saver over the previous strategy, and even if you miss the intended kill trigger it doesn't require a reset in a single-segment run. Genius!

saving a few seconds over the regular clipless deathwarp is awesome, but that extra laudunum is a really good bonus too. awesome B)

Welcome back André and great find! I guess that would be a nice look for the editor to see how far the kill trigger stretches through the wall. I agree with the Inner Sanctum strat too.
Hm I lowered my in game graphics settings yesterday (because my notebook is slightly too hot while playing Amnesia lately; I guess it's getting old). Since then I seem to run slower in game(!?), losing time with every single split. Clips are harder and all the flashbacks run out sooner (e.g. Refinery makes it quite obvious to me that I run slower, monster almost gets me there because the flashback fades out way sooner than in all the runs during the last months). I changed some settings back, but still have the same problems. Do the game settings actually alter the movement/running speed in the game!? If so, what should I have as my settings? I'm quite surprised about what is happening... Any clue?
What?
If you are loading from a save after the entrance hall it is possible that you are running on a save where you didn't trigger the movement speed reset in the lantern room (this reduces speed to aboyt 70% iirc). Do a run with show player info on (enable the debug menu) to make sure your run speed & move speed multipliers are both set to 1.0 by the time you enter the entrance hall.
