Wow, really...that's insane.

That would certainly help in a good few places, but at the same time, in theory if you NEED the endurance, you're not playing well! Could be useful if anyone does a Hard/Recruit run though. (Or similar)
Hey there again all.

As a fun little project, I thought that I would start writing up a Knowledge Base on this game.

There's really no specific reason for this, I just thought that it would be a little bit of fun actually putting down my own knowledge of the game.

https://kb.speeddemosarchive.com/Alpha_Protocol

It is my intention at the moment to go through the game mission by mission, and obviously, anyone who is game and wants to, can help out. Don't know why you'd be so barmy as to do so...but hey, maybe you're just as nuts as me! Cheesy

Anyway, just thought I'd put that there. I've only done the main page for now...obviously the spacing/formatting is going to change, I just kind of slapped that down. I'll probably attempt to do some short videos for it and the like, just showing off little things. They'll likely be stored as twitch highlights and then uploaded to Youtube from there.

Anyway...have fun!

Hey there all,

Just wondering if someone could give a readthrough of the first page I've done. Mainly concerned that I've screwed up and accidentally put in the wrong information, more than I'm worried about grammar. I'm aware my writing style is very casual and conversational...but hell, you're welcome to fix it. Tongue

https://kb.speeddemosarchive.com/Alpha_Protocol/General_Notes

It's not 100% finished (you can see what's not done) but I think I've covered almost everything...if there's something I've missed because I'm a fool, please let me know, I'l be sure to add it!

Alright, I'm back with this game...a little.

I'm trying to find glitches, and I already found one, shame it's useless.

Tomorrow, I'll be looking for places to clip in with the help of UDK...I hope.
For those who don't obsessively follow my YouTube channel, I've gotten back to running this. I've completed a couple runs. Here's my latest and best. I timed it at 1:41:27 including load times. It's still got some issues, including 3 deaths, 2 probably unnecessary checkpoint resets (one of which repeated a cutscene), failing the Taipei safehouse exit skip, Brayko not quite dying, and a Chain Shot blocked by invisible geometry at the end of Moscow Embassy.

Some new strategies:
- I did some not very scientific testing of sprinting. It's almost twice as fast a normal running and you can do it for about 4 seconds, depending on where in the start and stop animations you time from. It takes about 8 seconds from when you stop to fully recharge, so you shouldn't go longer than that without sprinting unless you really need to save it for specific spots. Holding the key after you run out doesn't do anything; it will recharge, but you have to release and press it again to start. Attempting to sprint too soon after stopping seems to delay it from recharging without letting you sprint, but if you wait a few seconds before starting again it seems to be about as efficient as using the whole amount at once.
- Bug airfield briefing is faster if you've already done Nasri. Also, I extort him so I can afford EMPs for Bug Airfield and Intercept Shaheed in one trip to the clearinghouse. Sadly, I still need to sell something and buy more later, but I only make 3 trips total, including to get the spiked coke for Brayko and the intel for Warehouse Data Trail.
- The first two stages of Jibril al-Barra end on a timer 15 and 25 seconds after you fire your first shot, so shoot immediately when they start, even if you hit nothing.
- Mina's chai latte line saves 4.5 seconds and seems to happen if your rep is in a certain range. I'm fairly sure 0 is too low, 2 and 3 work, I'm not sure about 1 or 4+, but too high and you get the high rep version (where you want to pick Dossier and Get Out). Given my dialog choices and that I want to CS the NSB operatives in the hotel, I want to lose at most one rep in other places. Sometimes I accidentally injure a stripper on Lazo or Brayko, so I want to avoid killing police and the Halbech rep if possible. Room Sweep and non-point-blank shotgun shots followed by melee are useful for that.
- The difference between Darcy and Westbridge dying in one CS or not seems to be how close you are. Five shots is enough for Darcy if you're close enough, but I think Westridge takes six. You only have to move a little closer than your starting position for Westridge, but watch out for the fuel tank.
1:41 beats me out by about 3 minutes. Don't know exactly what I was doing so differently, but whatever. Neat run!

Probably not even going to contest to be honest, really burnt myself out on AP.
After several more attempts I got one with no major screw-ups. A few minor ones and lots of enemies blocking my way, but I think it'll do. I timed it at 1:37:21 including loads.

It'll be here when it's done uploading and processing:

Also, nVIDIA ShadowPlay is pretty awsome. There's negligible performance hit when recording and encoding 1080p60 video. If it hit its target bitrate, I might not even have to reencode XQ, but it doesn't, so I'm recording at max quality and reencoding with Yua.
I still don't understand why that run is a full 7 minutes faster than mine. Like, it's fast, but it aint flawless. (No offence)

Like, I get where about 2-3 minutes can be saved on my run, but not 7...I gotta do some side-by-side timing or something. I just want to know where all this time is getting pissed away to!
Well, the worst of my recent attempts is maybe 6 minutes faster than my best from before, and I think that's with a comparable amount of time lost to deaths/failed sniping. Some of it may be shorter load times and less lag thanks to my new computer, but I'm guessing a lot of it is from keeping a mental count of how long it's been since I sprinted. The improvement after that is mostly from luck and practice.

Compared to yours, I saved 30 seconds by fast forwarding the final dialog with Leland (assuming SDA timed it the way I would), about 15 on Brayko thanks to better skills (even with him not quite dying to the second Chain Shot), some time due to better routes and a few other things I pointed out in verification. After that, it's hard to tell. I think it's a lot of little things that add up. Maybe I'll sync up some missions and compare.

I watched a bunch of missions side-by-side, trying to factor out loads. A lot of missions are actually pretty comparable. I gained maybe 40 s total on Brayko (not killing guys in the arcade, better skills), 20 s on Warehouse Data Trail (stairs instead of elevator, not getting lost, buying intel, shooting the dish), most of a minute on Infiltrate Alpha Protocol before the end cutscene (better dialog choices and more fast forwarding on Leland, more aggressive in the truck bay, checkpoint reset after Darcy, two-shotting the helicopter, one CS on Westridge).

Actually I think load time might explain the majority of the apparent difference. Your run is listed as 1:33:20, so that's 11-12 minutes of loads. If my SSD is twice as fast (which seems plausible) my run might be only a couple minutes faster in gameplay.

And no offense taken on the gameplay criticism. There were several obvious errors, just not any major ones. And I don't think you can avoid enemies being uncooperative now and then in a single-segment run.

Load time? Damn. That would explain it.

And I know as a fact that I can save about 2 minutes on on the last mission alone - just the helicopter and Westridge...errrr...

Thanks for doing that. It certainly brings my self esteem a little back to normal. Tongue

You're still da bes at this game though.

(And yeah, enemies in this game are just random stupid jerks. Can't dodge them all)
