Quote from stanski:
I always thought dreamland was more popular than adventure but meh (I was gonna speedrun it after sir vg got his run rejected a few times but then didn't have recording apparantus/someone else did it so i'm slightly biased here). I didn't know anyone that owned kirbys adventure growing up whereas i knew a bunch of people that first played kirby on dreamland just fyi.

I only submitted KDL1 once and never have submitted KA.  I did have NiDL rejected I think once and some pre-submission prejudice on another attempt, but I don't think it was rejected more then once either.

@stanski: just going off the SGDQ bonus stream's reaction when I was playing KDL on there, most of the chatter was something like "wow, this is so similar to the nes game!" or asking why I wasn't dashing or how game mechanics worked since they were completely unfamiliar with the game. There were a handful of people who knew about the game of course, but not many. I don't really think that response warrants running it for AGDQ, but if we run into an unfortunate situation where a lot less people can make it than we thought then I'm certainly willing to do an Extra mode run of it.

If no one is willing to run any MGS games, I can run Twin Snakes. I know it gets ran a lot, but I can get sub 1:02, and possibly lower with more practice.

Um, I'm pretty sure ADDING more games is the last thing we need at this point, Caleb.  Sorry.

Wouldn't it kind of be more our job as gamers to educate others on exactly which game came first? By this argument, if enough people though Ocarina of Time was the first Zelda game, you'd write off Link to the Past. I'm just saying, it seems like this would be a case where mollycoddling the people who have it wrong doesn't seem like the best idea.

Just imho.

You're responding to something real with a hypothetical situation. Look at it more like writing off King's Field in favor of having Demon's Souls at the marathon (something we're actually doing). It's not a matter of educating people about a game series, it's a matter of a game being popular enough to make the cut.
You can cut me from the schedule. I won't be able to attend. Sorry. I hope someone can represent SM64 somehow.

First no mike89, then no Essentia, now no Jiano?  Might was well cancel the marathon. Sad

I realize you're joking but somebody might find that insulting. Tongue

Man, I was hoping to convince you into a sexy MM10 3-way with Tiki and I.  Sad

Edit:  I've been learning this GBA game called Ninja Five-O.  If room frees up, put me down for it, I'd imagine 30 minutes is a good time estimate.

It was first no Aftermath T_T

I see your true feelings now, VG.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Well when I said I would need to make cuts, I didn't mean some of the strongest games. Sad Sorry to hear about that Jiano.

Also, the final race is for Mirror's Edge, Cody vs ddaanniieell, a guy who PM'ed me on the forums. If I don't see any results from ddaanniieell by October, then I'm cutting him from the race. We probably have too many races as is already, and I wouldn't be surprised if I cut at least one or two.

Caleb Hart: No space, and people in marathon chats have said they would prefer seeing the ps1 version anyway.

Naegleria: I'll consider it if time frees up on the schedule, but at the moment, no.

Duckfist: I'm sorry, Ninja Five-O is an awesome game, but it has no chance. I don't even think it reaches cult-classic status.

nxrunner: We've had more obscure games in the past (even entertaining ones like Ristar), and they never get much of a response. People generally like what they know. While Kirby's Dream Land is a short game, it's not particularly exciting or anything. It's not a bad watch either, but when we have a lot of stronger games on the schedule, I don't see any room for it.

no.

The marathon wouldn't be the same without some Mario 64. We need another runner. I could understand no pokemon but mario 64?

Man, this year raising money will be tough without some more big name titles.

You mean like Final Fantasy VII or something? Mario is everything, but given that, I'm sure there are plenty of people that can run it well enough for a marathon run.
Everybody's favorite monster
if this ddaanniieell turns out to be a no show i could pick up mirror's edge.
I have a question as I can't seem to find the old spreadsheet. What was the run type for Mario 64? I could probably do a few different ones(16 star, 1 star, 30 star, however you want to do it), but no guarantees on it. I'd have to learn the game, but it would be a fun experience for me and help me contribute.

Another question, would it be through the wii virtual console or N64? Not that it really matters(I have both), but I'm curious.

120-star and 1-star.

It could be either version, but honestly if you haven't even started I have to say I'd be a bit surprised if you could get ready in time on a game that competitive. I'd love to be proven wrong, of course!

I can probably do 1 star, I would be rather worried about 120. Anyway, I've practiced a lot of random tricks over the years, so I am sure I could do it. I really only need to learn the first backwards long jump and I would be fine.

Regardless, you may want to have someone else lined up just in case.
Some how Jiano not making it made me instantly think Majora was cut, thank god I was wrong. Still is a shame he can't make it for Mario 64, but its already been done and I'd be pretty surprised if he could improve on his performance from last year.

Sonic Adventure 2 is still in, but I need to know if Yoshifan is willing to take donations for Hero or Dark side.

I won't put this as the absolute final word, but I'll say yes for now - either Hero or Dark should be fine.  I'm pretty evenly experienced with both, though polishing and re-memorizing the emerald locations always takes time, so I shouldn't totally underestimate that.

Shame that mike89 can't come, though. Sad

Caleb - if it's any consolation, this will probably be the last year I try running MGS for marathons. RE is my primary focus =p
My feelings on The Demon Rush
A guy named cfox77 has emailed me about doing 70-star. He says his best time is sub 1-hour, and he has plenty of time to practice, so it looks like mario 64 will be back in the marathon.

That is good news.

I sort of wanted to 1 star it just to say that I was there, but now there is no reason for me to drive that far(6 hours or so) for a game already covered. At least now I don't have to learn the route and practice over and over again. Staying their is also pretty pricy, so it saves me some cash.
Balls jerky
I'm driving 6+ hours and my game is a bidding war D: It's all about the experience!

Same, except it's a 10 hour drive for me.
