Attendance
-Badges must be worn in a visible location at all times in our public areas.
-If you lose your badge, we will not have any available to replace it
-Persons without a badge will not be allowed in the event areas.

Alcohol and Drug Policy

-There is no alcohol tolerated in any marathon area.
-GDQ events are for all ages, and there will be minors in the area. Therefore, alcohol will not be tolerated in our public areas, including the hospitality room. You are responsible for what you do outside of public areas such as your hotel room.
-With all conference space being dedicated marathon areas at the Hilton Dulles Airport venue, alcohol will be allowed in the general hotel lobby area (subject to hotel rules).
-If you attempt to enter the event under the influence of illicit substances or alcohol, you may be subject to the following consequences:

-First Offense: Verbal warning, badge will be marked
-Second Offense: Removed from the event and possibly banned from attending future events

-Games Done Quick is not responsible for your actions if you are arrested for public intoxication, underage drinking, or anything else related to drug and alcohol use.

Possession of illegal/illicit drugs will merit immediate ejection from the marathon.

Harassment policy

-We expect attendees to treat others with respect and conduct themselves like responsible adults (regardless of age). If there is a minor conflict or issue, then we recommend trying to resolve the problem privately. An example of a minor conflict would be if your roommate is snoring loudly, or if there is a disagreement on whose turn it is to use a TV. If you find yourself unable to resolve a problem on your own, or you do not feel comfortable resolving the situation alone, please feel free to contact a staff member to assist you.
-More serious conflicts can fall into being considered abuse or harassment. We have a no-tolerance policy for abuse.  In cases of unwanted physical contact, whether violent or sexual in nature, or in instances of verbal abuse (aka harassment) or threats of violence, contact a staff member *immediately*.
-Please let us help you! If you are in doubt as to if something is serious enough to consider telling staff, it is probably serious enough to warrant telling staff.
-If you need to contact staff privately or anonymously, you can e-mail staff at TravisNible@gamesdonequick.com
-Offenders may be ejected from the hotel and barred from future events at the GDQ staff's discretion.

Food
-Food is only allowed in the hospitality room.
-Unattended food and/or drink will be thrown out immediately.

Stream Room
The stream room is the focal point of the whole event, and therefore merits a few extra rules.

-No detracting from the runner’s presence without their consent. Signs, costumes, stuffed animals, grandstanding or any form of taking attention from the runner should be discussed with the runner and staff beforehand. This ensures that it is in line with the tone the runner wants to set for the run, and that staff is aware of what is going to happen so they can both confirm it is appropriate for the stream and that it is desired by the runner. It is up to the runner to decide the tone of the area during their run, and we expect others to respect that tone. This also includes being generally distracting by talking or having your phone on, or really anything else that may arise that takes focus away from the run.
-Do not touch any cables or consoles during a run. You do not want to be the guy who ends someone’s run by messing with the hardware. If you have equipment being used, wait until between runs to reclaim it.
-The work area is off limits to anyone that is not working, scheduled or on staff. This is not considered a public area. If you are not trained with a piece of equipment, do not touch it. Photography does NOT exempt you from this rule.
-The runner has final say on who can and can’t be in the couch area. This includes both the couch and the rows immediately behind the couch as well if the runner has extra people he wants to have there. Seats that are not designated by the runner are generally considered open.
-No Flash Photography in the stream room or gaming areas. This includes lights such as red-eye reduction, and any other bright lights that are distracting to people playing games.

Misc
-No weapons of any kind are allowed in marathon areas. Anyone bringing weapons into marathon areas will be immediately removed and barred from further GDQ attendance.  Weapons are also banned from the hotel per their rules.
-Do not deface, mark, or otherwise modify equipment, and do not do anything that may damage equipment. All of our equipment is shared, and modifications that might benefit you can interfere with other players and/or damage the equipment. If you need a modification for a game, seek assistance from staff to find an acceptable solution.
-Keep yourself clean by showering regularly. If you smell, staff may ask you to leave the marathon area, as it is disruptive to others around you.
-No smoking in our event spaces.  This includes eCigs and Vaporizers.
-Do not litter. If staff members see items on the floor, they will be thrown out. What may be an important item to you might look like litter to a staff member, and our areas need to stay clean.
-Do not sleep in our public spaces. If staff finds you asleep, we will wake you up and ask you to leave the marathon areas. In cases where individuals clearly have intent to sleep in our marathon areas, we may mark or revoke badges at our discretion.
-Do not leave personal belongings or baggage unattended. Unattended items will be removed immediately.
-Do not touch the prizes. Many are fragile and hundreds of people handling them will break them. The only time you can touch a prize is if you're going to show it on stream.
-No casual gaming allowed in the practice rooms. We have a large amount of space designated to casual gaming as well as space designated to competitive gaming not related to speedruns, so please be respectful of runners trying to practice by keeping casual and competitive gaming out of the practice room.
-Keep competitive gaming in tournament room. Competitive games need to be kept out of the casual room and should be taken to the tournament room. Examples include, but are not limited to, smash bros, street fighter, or any other games which may result in very vocal activities.
-People with runs in the next 24 hours have priority in the practice rooms. If you have a run coming up and can’t find an open practice station, feel free to ask staff to help you find a space.
-Keep walkways and assorted public areas clear. It’s easy to fire up a conversation with someone you pass by in a doorway, but keep others in mind and move your conversation a few feet. It’s courteous to others and bunching up in a doorway is a fire hazard. Staff will direct you to move your conversation if hallways are blocked.
-No advertisement or vending.  This includes leaving business cards and fliers around the event space.  Promotion of any outside event and any vending (sale of goods) must be approved in writing by Games Done Quick. This also includes any other actions which might be considered in competition with our sponsors.
-Be aware of local laws and hotel rules. Things such as smoking inside the hotel, public intoxication, or use of illegal drugs all fall under this, but keep in mind that being part of the event does not somehow exclude you from them.

By attending Awesome Games Done Quick 2016, you are agreeing to abide by the rules as stated as well as follow the direction of staff members at the event.  Failure to comply may result in removal from the event and/or a temporary or permanent ban from future events at the discretion of GDQ Staff.

Note that these rules are also listed on the GDQ website, and that you agree to them when you register for the event.

Feel free to ask any questions you have about these rules in this thread and we will do our best to clarify.
Thread title:
This seems like it may be the right place to ask,

I noticed in the Attendee Information Packet email that it says registration opens the 3rd at 8am. I am arriving nearby at my friend's place about 10pm on the 2nd and we had planned to come by to check the event out before the stream starts and get our game installed to Steam and set up. Is it going to be possible for us to even check the place out if the registration desk will not yet be open, or will we need to wait until the following day after the event starts?
Since saturday is the major set up day for the equipment and stream room it will be best to wait until registration has opened to come get your steam game installed. Staff will make sure you have plenty of time to test the setup and make sure everything is working to your liking before your run.
Hmm... fairly quickly after posing my question I had received a PM from another GDQ staffer that said the PC's will be up and running by then so I can come by and contact staff to be shown them and get setup on both the streaming PC's and the practice room PC's.

Keep in mind that I will be arriving there late on the 2nd, likely after 11pm sometime (if all of my timings line up as expected).
