ABOUT MULTIPLE RUNNERS/RACE SELECTIONS

Mike hasn't finished selecting individual runners. If he hasn't decided by Wednesday, your registration is free regardless of whether you're selected or not. Merry Holiday of your choosing.

Way to get me excited that the games list is done, then pull this out. hahaha.  Kappa.
If it helps, I am going to start grinding down my time with the WR holder of Lester this weekend.  Both Radioactive Rat and I want this to be a race haha.
Crawlathon WR, get down on my level.
Mike's working to get the runners selected by sometime next week, along with the schedule. It may get paired down much sooner, but that's what we're looking at right now.

To elaborate:

If there's multiple runners for a game, regardless of waitlist/progress status of the individual runner, Mike is working to choose who will run the game. Not all games will be races.
Dapper as fuck.
Makes sense, going through the initial cuts list a LOT of games were submitted by multiple people.  Can't have every game be a race, I understand haha.

The last few waitlisted runs (generally any game with only a single runner) are just waiting in case of drops as mentioned before. You should practice, but we obviously can't guarantee you a spot in the event.

When will these runners know if their game gets accepted or rejected? Whether I go or not depends on whether my run gets in. The longer it takes for my game to be officially accepted or rejected the less likely I will be able to go and the more expensive it will be for me to book my flights.

i'm in the same boat since my only progressing game is in this situation and i can't justify the big commitment that is traveling if i don't have a game in the marathon (it's a lot of problems that need to be sorted)

Re-posting since my question seems to have gotten lost in the slew of comments after the games list announcement.

Quote from Antilles58:
The comment on my waitlisted DKC2 102% submission is "we don't think a race is a good idea for this game."

Is that just because of the time differential between v0oid and myself the moment?  i.e., if I'm able to cut another minute or two off of my time by the marathon (I've already improved my any% time significantly since my submission), would we be able to have me join him for a race after all?  There have been races of DKC2 at past marathons, and each have them have been pretty close and exciting at the end.  102% races oftentimes go down to the wire as well.
I'm curious to the Super Mario World Submissions being in progress 6 submitted 96 Exits and 2 people submitted 95 No Cape is the category not chosen yet? or is one of them going to be an incentive? 0 Exit is progressing too and Low% got waitlisted so its kinda confusing.

Category not chosen yet. Mike was discussing this game last night. I believe he's looking to pick two runs (so a long and short one).

IIRC, when it was discussed, I don't think your estimate would impact the decision.
Also, to follow up with my question (I'm sure it'll take you a bit to get through all these haha), if glitchless has interest in Mega Man, and DXTR and I are both waitlist, would you consider making it a glitchelss race? Glitchless would be a great race since it is all execution whereas an any% race would come down to failing zips, etc. I have not asked him if he would want to do this, but just curious.

So both categories for mario 2 got accepted. Does this mean both are in? Smiley
Cloudbuilt <3 Coilworks
Seems like a lot of the games with multiple racers are still up in the air. Is there any decision on whether Cloudbuilt will be a race (We requested one but if for whatever reason that's not feasible then I understand)? And has there been any decision on which of the three categories submitted we'll be running? Or should I stop being so impatient and wait for an update... Tongue

Why was Valkyria Chronicles rejected? I swear there are dozens of missed questions in the thread

There are. I have a feeling I am going to have to requote mine again soon.

I feel like this is a big area for improvement. There should be a way to ask in the games list itself for your submission so you guys can see a queue of questions that you can eventually work through. Asking in this thread is incredibly messy and a lot is being missed. Something to consider for the future, perhaps.
Quote from Skybilz:
I wanted to ask about a waitlisted run as well. Is my waitlisted race of Lost Levels only there in case one of the mario block races falls apart or is it being considered? I understand if you cannot give me an answer but I was just curious.  I also wanted to add that I forgot to edit my video. I now have a 15:12 in Lost Levels (got the same time twice tonight) which would make a closer race than the original video suggested.

Thank you!

Just wanted to repost in case this got lost in translation. Thank you for all that you do.
The path of the righteous man...
I see I got waitlisted for Axiom Verge. I just wanted to say that this is a perfect game for a race and I will cut down the difference between Brother_Ma1n and I. It would be a really hype race.

fast video games
I noticed my run (star wars: Dark Forces) went from progressing (when they announced it was the final game list) to waitlisted. Can I get some insight on that?

EDIT: I just noticed Hard is the category that progressed. Guess that answers that
SPEEDruns not SAFEruns
Final games list, lol.

It's obvious changes are happening and nothing is final.

That being said, I'm not going to be able to attend so you can drop me from the SMB2 categories. That shouldn't affect the current state of the game as 3 very capable runners will still be in for the marathon and provide an amazing race in either category.

As of yesterday my Glitchless Portal run was set to Progress, now it is waitlisted. Along with a bunch of other Portal runs (of various categories) that were set to Progressed. What's up? Will only 1 run of Portal go through?

And I'm actually the only one who has registered for my category of Portal.

Also I was fairly close to booking flights yesterday, since the post said that if you're set to "Progressed" then you're in. So... that was scary.
I must simply laugh.
Alright, this is going to be a bit of an unusual post from me, as I'm generally not someone who does this.

I saw that you chose nocashnocash as the FF4 runner, I dont actually wanna know why or anything because I can imagine why you did.

4 people submitted FF4 this time including puwexil, neerrm, nocash and me. I didn't really expect me or puwexil to be the ones to run it in the first place, but just in case people wouldnt be able to attend I submitted it and got waitlisted just like puwexil because (rightfully) you guys decided between nocash and neerrm.

Both are excellent runners and what follows here is not meant to be offensive towards nocash or anything but I will just state how it is.

Neerrm is running FF4 for well over 2 years now, innovating the game anew tons of times, pioneering new strategies, implementing step routing and stuff (with support) and executing on a level only 1 other person(the_roth) has in that game. He was the one that implemented a Glitch into the RTA route that was seemingly TAS only, and he kept throwing down the RTA from 3:25 to roughly 3:11 even before step routes were a thing. Nobody has worked as hard as he has for the game, not even close. Everyday in skype you would hear about him trying out new stuff.

Nocash did his fair share of runs, he is good at the game aswell but (no offense) just not on the level Neerrm is. He has the better PB at the moment (because he actually did use steproutes after they released very recently), but in FF4 that really does not say a whole lot. Nocash never really did as much research for the game and tried out new things, he mostly adapted from things neerrm and others implemented. Again I cant stress enough that this is not an offense, this is how I operate for a lot of my speedruns I do.

Im posting here since im not sure where else to contact a person regarding this, so here is my notion: Let both of them run. We as the FF4 community (even though i stand here with my name) want him to run and represent FF4 at AGDQ. I know the decisison has been made and all and I don't want nocash to pull away or anything, its just that neerrm deserves this so much.

I would really appreciate at least considering this and maybe communicating with both about this, im sure nocash is going to hate me for this but somebody had to say it.

Cheers

I am close friends with nocash (who is going to be ticked that I'm posting this), but I tend to agree with this sentiment.  Nocash is a fantastic runner, but neerrm is, undoubtedly, the premier FF4 No64 runner.

Additionally,  eLmaGus is certainly someone who the community feels comfortable with speaking on our behalf.

So my mario 3 submission went to waitlist so I want tok now why because sumi said those games were donation incentives. I would not mind racing against mitch in any% no wrong warp, I have already raced frezy_man at the big stage on dreamhack!
DO THE MEATEO
And I agree with Magoose and Cata about this. Neerrm has done more for FF4 in recent times than all of us, and is simply better than everyone. Nothing much else to say.
Quote from johncarls:
I know this may seem like a repeat of many of the questions above, but it is a little different.

My submission for Mega Man glitchless was waitlisted as was DXTR's any% submission. I was told this was because they had the same estimate (his run is faster, obviously, but his estimate just more conservative). He is already running for sure and I will be there for sure (I like 5 miles from AGDQ), so this doesn't affect plans, but are you trying to decide between glitchless and any%? Obviously both would not be accepted. Is there any consideration that I have no runs and he has some, either in his favor or mine?

Just curious the process. Also love DXTR and he is a machine so I would completely understand my run not getting chosen, just curious. Also wondering if a more recent video would help glitchless since my video is a tad old.

Thanks!

This is a follow up to make sure this wasn't missed. I think somewhere it said to repost if we don't get answers. I don't want to be annoying! Just following instructions Smiley

Also wondering if MM1 did make it if a race between myself and dxtr would be considered for either category.

Neerrm was given a comment that read "Sorry, this was a difficult decision"... and the thing is, if anyone had reached out to the FF4 community, it wouldn't have been a difficult decision at all. I understand that the team responsible has a lot on their plate, but this truly was a very uninformed decision.

I'm aware I'm beating a dead horse at this point, but it really does need to be emphasized. Neerrm is the man to represent FF4.
-He is the best player we have (or at least, tied with the_roth)
-He has optimized the game a ton (either by finding things himself, or improving things others found)
-He will showcase the game and community very well

At the end of the day, no one is more synonymous with FF4 than neerrm, and no one has put in more time into the game than neerrm.

No one is saying to take no$ out; that would be wrong. What we'd hope to see is Neerrm right there alongside him because he deserves to participate. Please think about adding him as a runner, especially since it does not affect the schedule in any way. The game is going to get run regardless, but in this case, you've got the people who to deserve to do it.

Bich brings up a great point, and I was going to post this on a relevant general AGDQ feedback thread except there (obviously) isn't one yet. If such a decision is that tough, has the AGDQ committee ever discussed this with prominent members of the relevant community to make their decision more well informed? And like Bich says, I also understand that you have a a mammoth task in setting all of this up however seeking additional information would help a lot and may even make scheduling a lot easier and faster for you once you know which games you will have in the GDQs.

Heyo, just want some clarification on my Crypt of the Necrodancer submission. In my submission, I recommended that Cadence or Story be the primary run, with everything else listed as potential options for bonus incentives. Currently, Cadence All Zones is waitlisted, with Coda All Zones listed as bonus. Does this mean Coda is going to be a potential bonus incentive regardless of Cadence's status? Or is Coda's presence dependent upon Cadence being de-waitlisted and integrated into the main schedule?
