Hi! This is Zyx, I couldn't find a way to change my user name so I just made a new one. Reason I'm posting is that I've decided to go a slightly different direction with the prize(s) I'm going to donate.
This is a test run for an end project which I'm going to attempt making quite bigger. I'm in the process of cutting now and later will put a piece of card stock paper behind it and layer the in-between spaces with either lightly patterned origami paper of according color or very thin reflective paper. This one unfortunately isn't stable or tough enough to move around to hang up or anything of the such so I would frame it to keep it stable, but if the larger is stable enough then I would attach a wooden frame on the outside perimeter so it can be hung up on it's own and possibly even let some light through. Thoughts on this? I will try to post as the test progresses.
I'm a little preoccupied, and I don't know if I'll be able to finish my perler projects. I do have a Nemo perler to go with RetroGamerRyan's Nemo perler, but two shipments to one location for small perler each may be unwise. I'll hold back my perler of Nemo for another marathon.
I also intended to do more Chrono Trigger perlers. I may have time to do one more, but if not, I'll plan on submitting the Magus perler I already have (seen here):
It's a paper Zant from Twilight Princess. Stands a good 15-16 inches tall. With only a month to go till the deadline and my printer being an ass...I'd better hurry.
Edit: Hey, I moved the printer to the computer with Windows 7 and it IMMEDIATELY started working, as opposed to 90 minutes of hassle without success on Windows 8 computer. Windows 8 sux. Anyways, time to get to work.
Hello all, new to the forum here. I'm planning on donating a poster I've illustrated for F-Zero X, but I wanted to get thoughts on the print. You can see the illustration from here: http://2dforever.com/art/image226/
I'm wanting to make a print/poster of it, but I have two quick questions which I'd love to hear peoples thoughts: - Should I include a frame? Shipping will cost more, but it'll be nice and complete. - How big should I go? I'm thinking quite large, around 24" size...
Anyway, that aside I hope you guys like. It was great fun to do
In my opinion, 18" x 24" posters are a decent "hey look I have a nice poster" size without it being enormous or too small to be worth buying. At least that's how I choose to buy posters I like. I also say don't put it in a frame. Some people like to match their frames (I'm sadly one of them) or just hang them in dorms/bedrooms and stuff without frames
I thought of that, but the grade of paper usually used is actually pretty strong, so it's not exactly fragile as long as its a 3D model (like the Zant above versus the Ninja Gaiden one from earlier). They shouldn't be too difficult to ship as long as its held in place decently with newspaper or something.
If it's completely vetoed, fine, I might just bring them to the marathon (cause I want to make them anyways, it's fun!) and just give them away or something - for morale!
Papercrafts could possibly work if they are shipped within a non-deformable box or something (remember, things will need to be able to survive international shipping as well).
Like the two prints I did for SGDQ, I'll be doing two more 11"x17" prints for two games at this marathon that I think need more love: Mystical Ninja, and Touhou Double Spoiler. I'm also resubmitting my Zelda bottled fairy set that was never claimed from SGDQ, and I'm picking up a cheap anime DVD or two for another game. I'll show off WIP shots of the drawings as they progress.
Regarding the shipping of papercraft, I plan on using foam peanuts. Zant should be able to take a little abuse, maybe except his finger things which might get bent up but those are easy fix. I live in Idaho so I don't have to worry about international shipping.
I also have a few other crafts in mind for the Zelda block, like a Majora's Mask I finished a few days ago, (Pictured at bottom of post with disembodied Zant) a hookshot, master shikashi from MM, and some (6) rupees. I saw that Ninja Gaiden papercraft a long time ago but never got around to it. Though that one looks troublesome to ship, I'll just leave that to you DrCool.
Because there's so many different ones of varying sizes, this raises concern of who's going to ship it and how it's going to be bundled. I've considered two scenarios:
1. Zant, Mask, Rupees, and Shikashi are bundled together for the entire Zelda block with $10+ donation buy-in and come in one big box with packing peanuts and smaller boxes with peanuts and the individual crafts. Either me or Mike ship the box to the winner.
2. Each prize to their respective games, Zant to TP, Mask to MM, etc.. 5$ buy-in each, each one shipped by me in a separate box.
I like the first scenario better because I only ship once (YOSO), but please help me decide which of these scenarios works better for everyone or if there are other options I'm not considering.
I was thinking a similar route with the packaging and stuff (I'm also thinking of building that exact Zant for myself!) I aint even touching that Ninja Gaiden one. Doesn't look as cool

Keep in mind that people in other countries can donate too. A prize winner might not necessarily be in the US.
Lomelli: Imho I would prefer the prizes to be winable (and shipped) seperately. AGDQ cannot have enough prizes, because probably less than 1 % of all donors can only actually win a prize (judging by a badly estimated amount of prizes and donors). Since you should (afaik) be reimbursed for shipping, laziness should be the only reason to pack all of the prizes in one—and that is a pretty bad reason imho
I actually have a couple of prizes lying around from previous marathons that should work for this upcoming AGDQ. I'll take pictures soon.
dickoak: What moooh said. I'm fine with twitch references (we did have a frankerz controller as a prize), but a prize like that is just bad taste.
RetrogamerRyan: Those are some nice perlers.
Feniksen: That looks it could be a really cool prize if the final result looks as good as what you have so far.
doicm: That's a nice looking Magus perler.
Lomelli: If your papercraft can survive regular shipping, then they should be able to survive international shipping. I do like the craft, it's a very pretty and unique prize. Also bundling your prizes is fine, I think that would work out better to be honest (more papercraft would be more attractive).
2DForever: Glad to see you posting on the forums! I agree with DrCoolguy, and the poster looks really nice. I like the old-style newspaper comics vibe from it.
