cant wait to be bored off my ass watching long boring games and watching 6 zelda games 7 mario games 8 megaman games, minecraft and surgeon simulator whilst other interesting things are deemed "too obscure" or "mike doesnt like it"
Having trouble logging into my forum account, so I'm posting as guest.
twitch.tv/Azorae
1. Portal 1 (Inbounds) Estimate: 00:17:00. Fast paced, well-known game that's densely packed with cool tricks.
2. Portal 2 (Solo Coop) Estimate 00:55:00. Interesting take on the standard Co-op speedrun, I control both characters by toggling control and using one KB/M setup. Perhaps this could be a donation incentive alternative to P2 Coop with me and Znernicus?
3. Rocket: Robot on Wheels (any%) Estimate: 1:10:00 -or- (100%) Estimate: 1:50:00. This relatively unknown game is a great N64 collectathon, similar to Banjo-Kazooie, but much shorter. There are a bunch of cool tricks in both routes.
1. Scooby Doo Night of 100 Frights (any with cheats %) Estimate: 25 mins- One of the most underated platforming games of all time. Period. This to me is actually a great game. Quite hard to speed run, due to how much this game can troll. WR is like 1:57 I'm routing this for now. In 4 months of so I will have it complete. What I mean by cheats is ingame cheats, so I can get all power ups instantly and "Warp Gates", saves over an hour and 40 mins easily, normally this run would be 2 hours long. So it saves a lot of time.
Metal Warriors [SNES, 0:30] - 2D Mech gameplay at its finest. Really cool run with a lot of unique glitches/skips, and I'm finding out that it was a really popular rental back in the day (although it's a rare game now). Donation incentive to play basketball mode vs Duckfist. Would fit in with a Star Wars/LucasArts block.
Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel [SNES, 0:20] - Really fast and obscure game with a lot of speedtricks and skips. It's also "bad" in a number of ways, but not sure if it fits for AwfulGDQ. Not a strong candidate, but it's short.
Kendo Rage [SNES, 0:20] - My AwfulGDQ submission. To quote the opening of the game, Kendo enthusiast Jo gets a chance to join Honest Abe's School of Kendo and Used Car Sales. So yeah, it's intended to be ridiculous. Also possible WTF Japan block material. TAS below.
Suikoden II [PS1, 7:00] - I know it was already declined, but I'll pitch it anyway. A much-loved PS1 RPG with a lot of glitches and time-saving elements in the route. There is a Suikoden Revival Movement that has been at work lately trying to reinvigorate Suikoden in corporate eyes and bring the series back; could be a strong source of donations.
Legend of Mana [PS1, 2:15] - Specifically the JP version since it's shorter and has some exclusive tricks/routes. An excellent action-rpg, and the last decent entry in the Mana series. Donation incentives to determine the route; Dragon Killer can be done in around 1:45 pretty easily, Fairy is 15-20 min more. Not offering Jewel Thief/Jumi route. The estimate can be lowered to 2:00 for just the Dragon Killer route.
1. At the same time can we match the SGDQ hype? I'd say it's still worth considering the game, put it on the list.
2. Could you possibly do 0 star instead? I feel like if we're going to do a super short category for SM64, it should at least be the most busted one.
3. This game isn't really awful, just not really mario 64.
1. I see no reason why not. Although I have seen blkyoshi ask for 100% now which would probably be a better choice as it is something different than SGDQ.
2. I could attempt 0 star but the dire dire docks skip relies heavily on luck. Just as an example this is a race me and some of the best 0 star runners in the world did on SRL (including the world record holder) http://speedrunslive.com/races/result/#!/61162 . If I was going to try for 0 star only, the worst case would be that I am sitting there for almost an hour failing a trick over and over (It wouldn't matter who you had doing the run, the trick is literally impossible to do anywhere near consistent). I don't feel that failing a trick for anywhere up to an hour is suited for a marathon :p (maybe donation incentive for maximum number of DDD skip attempts? So donors can choose from 0 to 10 or something similar? and if I don't get it in that number of attempts I can just finish as a 1 star run)
3. Just think of this, super mario 64 on a dpad... I don't think the game needs much more to confirm that it is awful. A lot of the movement and routes for stars are very different than SM64 and I stand by what I said for SGDQ (I think a lot of people will be interested by seeing how the game is different, and arguably more broken in certain areas, than the original). Here is an example of just how broken some of the stars are: . Also possible donation incentives for saving luigi (50 star) and saving wario (80 star)?
Also I am completely for yoshi story all melons. All melons is something completely new and I think the game deserves another chance. ie6 has put a lot of time into pushing the game much further than it was in the past and he has some really interesting tricks up his sleeve.

going to be one hell of a marathon !!!!!
surprised it only took 14 pages before the first salty post
Funny Kirby, considering you had the most shit, most boring run of all of SGDQ. At least you gaveeveryone time to fall asleep.
Seriously though, why are games being denied because they're 'too obscure?' How will they not be obscure if you never put them in but run every 3D Zelda and Mario game under the sun? Especially having, what, 7 mega man games? Sure do love sliding simulators for 10 hours! "My nostalgia experience!" Good thing I don't get to watch cool or interesting games instead, otherwise this might be fun to watch. :^)
1. KH has not had a great response in the past (though that seems to be changing a bit), and Chain of Memories is a smaller side game in the series.
I'm fine with CoM getting cut, but you should know that with 1.5 HD coming out and KH3 slated for new console release, hype for Kingdom Hearts is at its peak, and can definitely be milked this year at AGDQ. If my game isn't making it, at least consider not using this line of reasoning with KH2, which is definitely fresh with new strategies since its last marathon appearance.

Because if they're too obscure people don't watch them. There's statistical data to back this up. We do want to maintain at least a semblance of consistent viewership, even if all games can't be SM64/OoT.
Also, there's no schedule made up yet, so saying there's going to be "7 megaman games" implies you don't understand this process. It's just a list of stuff Mike will use to determine the final schedule, there is no guarantees anything on that list will make it, for a multitude of reasons.
1. Kid Icarus, any%: 35:00 - Me and Blechy have been working on this one. Lots of new tricks, already saved more than 5 minutes on the current SDA time
2. Chameleon Twist 2, any%: 35:00 - Really chill game and super marathon friendly. The mechanics in the game allow for lots of skips and death warps. 100% sees a bit more of the game for another 7 minutes.
3. A boy and his Blob(s) - I think Zephryz has already offered these 2 minute games, but I'm down for a race or some shenanigans. I'd also love to learn 100% for the NES version, should be about a 10 minute game then.
4. Octodad: 10:00 - Nothing new here, but hype for Octodad 2?
5. Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures race with Pie: 1:30:00 - It's the greatest adventure.
Jett Rocket [Estimate 55:00] - Jett Rocket is a fun little Wii Ware game that is very reminiscent of Super Mario Galaxy, All optimization and collection, fun to watch, its gotten pretty good reception on my stream and its never been in a marathon before, wanted to throw it out there.
Red Steel 2 (wii) [Estimate 3:00:00] - No glitches here, Just head shots galore and lots of chopping people with swords, still lots to improve on world record, which I have. this game might get broken into a thousands pieces soon..its known for letting you simply walk through walls.
Xenoblade Chronicles (wii) [Estimate 4:00:00] (Have not yet started running this game)- This was a really big hit with old school FF fans and has a really strong fan base, I think it will pull in a lot of the fans as long as they know about the run. And plus the sequel is gaining more steam on the hype train so this might good.
Final Fantasy 13-2 (PS3) [Estimate 4:00:00] - Like many FF's there's lots of running around and scene skipping, the battle is very entertaining to watch because there is literally always something super shiny flying around the screen. There's a lot of fast paced selection, far more so than most FF runs.

I don't think you understand what kind of a task choosing the games for a marathon is. As much as I might agree/disagree with some of the choices mike makes for the game list the fact is he chooses games which bring in the viewers and gets people to donate, and considering that the whole marathon is about raising money for charity I think he does one hell of a job of it. He has been doing it for so many years that he knows which games are well received but he also gives some smaller less-known games the chance to shine if they show potential. Just looking at how big xGDQ is getting and how many more games are now being offered, he couldn't possible include every new and obscure game and it wouldn't leave any space for games which are an overwhelming success year in year out.
Stop feeding the trolls please. Having a useless discussion with random people will make this thread into another useless pile of words. Don't go off topic, don't discuss anything besides your own games.
I already PM'd you mike, but I decided to post here anyways, just to throw it out there, and kind of make it more official.
Metroid Fusion 1% [Estimate 1:40:00] - INSANELY generous estimate. 1% is getting only one missile tank, and beating the game with no other expansions, aka a challenge that casual players consider ridiculously hard. It would fit in well with the low% zero mission run dragondarch is doing. However, I did 100% at SGDQ 2013, so this could work better as a back-up or extra game.
Metroid Zero Mission 100% [Estimate 1:25:00] - MZM 100% hasn't been done since dragondarch's run from AGDQ 2011, and there have been a HUGE amount of route changes that make the run flow much better and add a lot of difficult tricks. I'll be showing off the fastest but difficult+impressive console route, including acid worm skip. As a note, I know dragondarch has offered MZM hard low%, and I want to give him priority over my offer. He's wanted to do it for several months, and it's never been done before; maybe I can do 100% as a bonus donation category if time permits?
Ballyn - You're not such an Anonymous SGDQ Viewer, just saying (your IP address says hi btw).
This thread is for game requests and game requests only. If you want to bitch, there's plenty of other avenues available to you, I suggest you use them if bitching's your thing. Yagamoth summed things up pretty nicely, keep it out of this thread. Any posts complaining about cuts/game selection, and any posts replying to them will be removed from here on.
And now, back to your regularly scheduled game requests.
1. Jet Set Radio HD (PC) (Any%) Estimate 48:00 - Nostalgia favorite, I have pb/wr of 42:04. Been running this & only this for 4 months and no desire to stop. Big plus: recent update makes fast load screens(faster paced). Will bring controller set up ready to go.
1. Terranigma [Estimate 4:30:00] - I would love to run this game at AGDQ. I know its a long game but there's plenty of stuff people could donate for. (Resurecting MU, Expanding a Town, Easter Egg Zombie cutscene, ...) I didnt play this game for a while but it wouldnt be a problem for me to shake of the rust. People keep asking for this game ever since and I think it's time to give it a try.
2. Secret of Evermore [Estimate 1:45:00] - I think SGDQ showed that this game was fun to watch and I love runing it. Getting a 1:45:00 shouldnt be a problem at all. The only problem I see with this game is, that if you happen to overflow your atk again, the run is over even if you have a savegame. Because of that I would have to make sure that I cant overflow again which is the most critical aspect of the run. (I would suggest that it can take up to 5mins to make sure you are safe)
3. Mega Man Unlimited [Estimate 55:00] - I practice this game since it got released. It's my very first Mega Man game I run and I'm pushing myself to keep getting better and better at it. I'm sure there are better people here that can run it but if you need someone, I'm your man.
It realy depends on my job if I can go to AGDQ or not but atm things are looking good. If something changes, I will inform you asap.
New Super Mario Bros. U (any%) [Estimate 00:55:00] Current PB is 53:xx but I will easily get that closer to the 40ish range with practice - estimate is with setup and everything going horribly wrong. There are some fun skips and it hasn't been in a marathon besides SGDQ bonus stream. Could also be a donation war with New Super Luigi U (or a donation challenge itself).
1. Link's Awakening DX [Estimate 1:30:00] - It was not featured in a marathon for some time ... and it's a cool game.
If there are more runner interested to run this I suggest how ever has the fastest time in like December 20 or so will run it (If it's in the marathon)

Super Mario Kart - any% [Estimate 0:30:00] I would like to do a run of SMK, using the GP 150cc setting. I am the current #1 of this game on NTSC, which is the version I would play. What would make this run interesting is the fact that there has been a very active community competing for WRs and developing strategies ever since 2001. This has resulted in a level of execution that is very impressive and surprising for people that have played it casually with friends for hours on end (which I would estimate to hold true for a large portion of the AGDQ audience).
1. Super Metroid - any% [55:00] Race as mentioned by garrison, who pitched the idea perfectly. For me, this would be a LOT of fun.
2. Alien Soldier - supereasy [45:00] Very flashy, fast paced game that I'd love to help show off. I know somebody else offered this... I'm not sure how good they are at it, but I would be down for a race if we end up around the same level. I haven't put too much into speedrunning this game, but I've played it enough to beat it on superhard multiple times and know that I could work this up nicely. I have the original japanese MD cartridge.
3. Shinobi 3 [40:00] I would love to race this, if there's anybody out there known for being good at it. The game is so stylish and well refined. Plus the varied, fluid movement Joe has is a nice update of the older shinobi titles. The problem is it does have a fair amount of auto-scrollers.
4. The Revenge of Shinobi [25:00] I've put a fair amout of work into this, a good deal more than shinobi 3 actually. IMO, the game is a classic, and like shinobi 3 the atmosphere and presentation is absolutely excellent. Could even possibly be in WTF Japan block for the bosses, but that may be a stretch.
P.S. Maybe I should say up front that I may only be able to make it for a couple of days due to school, which for me starts at the very beginning of the year. I will go out of my way to make a SM any% race though.
Q.U.B.E. [Estimate 40m] - This was a crowd favorite at ESA (for the wrong reasons ). I suggest it here knowing that it is a good run by itself and that I can provide thorough commentary and run history throughout all of it. Also, that estimate is with PC setup included, I would be surprised if a marathon run was higher than 30 minutes.
Quantum Conundrum (Any%) [Estimate 1h] - John de Lancie + puns = winning combo. I noticed Blood Thunder suggested this aswell and I'd love to race him if it gets accepted. I'm currently a couple minutes below his skill level but that shouldn't be a problem with 5 months left to the marathon. Please refer to his post for more actual game pitch
iTTLE DEW (donation war for category idea in the pitch) [Estimate 25m] - This nice little indie game was designed with speedrunning in mind. It plays like a mix of Goof Troop and aLttP with the main gameplay mechanic revolving around 3 items that you can collect in any order and of which you only need 2 to actually beat the game. About the category of this game: I think an interesting donation war could come from picking which 2 of the 3 items I complete the game with. It only changes the runtime with max 5 minutes and the 3 runs are very different.
