As someone who hasn't been at any of the marathons in person but has watched every one of them from her couch, I would hate having to read text while also watching a video game. This is why audio commentary is vastly superior during marathons to any kind of text commentary that may be able to be rigged up. I am already focusing hard on seeing the awesome tricks the runners are pulling off and having to check the commentary cam to see what's going on would be very ineffective.
I too dislike the gimmicky factors of gaming marathons and want to best share my knowledge of games and speedrunning in a manner I feel I am best able to.
Well, that's why I plan on being a bit supplementary so the other couchers can use the information I convey as to what they may had missed or not knew.
Well if you have a disability, then that's fine, but you need to be more upfront about it. If you do have a disability, then I need to know ASAP (you can PM me and Breakdown if you don't want to talk about it on the forum).

This...Mike and Breakdown are both very reasonable people so long as you are honest and open about things. They will definitely hear what you have to say and give you fair shot, just PM them dude.
@Admins, I would say that even if this sounds too weird or innappropriate I think you should at least give Withelde the opportunity to preview LIVE what he is planning to do which will give you all the relevent information needed to make this decision. If you still think it is a no go, what is the worst that happened? You wasted 5-10 mins watching him and tell him that he can't do it.
@heidrage: that was pretty damn horrible, we have come to expect much better from you.
If we have someone with a disability or that doesn't feel comfortable speaking in public, then I think they'd be best able to help with the marathon by being in the chat, interacting with the viewers, answering questions about SDA, encouraging them to donate, etc.
Personally, if I had to sit through gimmicky whiteboard based communication (unless necessary) I would consider asking for my money back. Maybe I should stop seeing things in black and white
Give Withhelde a laptop, someone should sit directly behind Withhelde and read everything he says, and give him a magna-doodle so he can make his faces?
sinister1: cyghfer wants withhelde around for SMRPG anyway, so he can be couch commentator for that, like I said earlier. Puwexil brings up a good point though, withhelde can help by interacting with the chat and answering questions.
Just know that you can't for Kirby Amazing Mirror. It's gonna be really crowded as is. The ladies are welcome to join thou...ok I seriously can't finish that sentence. ^^;;
I can do couch commentary for Mirror's Edge if necessary. I know it's a race, so that might not be appropriate, but I'm just offering. I've played through the game several times (on 360 AND PC >.>), in addition to research on runs, so I think I can talk quite a bit about it.
Since a number of my games don't even have commentators yet, maybe I just pop in on the couch if there's room.
If the runner is okay with this, then that's fine. But be sure to get the runner's permission first. Otherwise you can participate in the chat off-cam.
I want to invite andrewg to couch commentate -- if he'd like...
Also, sorry Withehelde. I like your style and all C[~v~]D but in my opinion it's just a forced gimmick and would definitely take focus off the game. Small doses of smiley humor in the chat at well-placed times are good, but too much is too much.
