my names amadeus arkham and i wanna learn to speedrun. i kinda want some advice from somebody because i have no idea even where to start. does anybody have some advice?
Thread title:
Wake up and be awesome
Hi,
First off, figure out which game you want to run. I'm assuming from the title of the thread, you want to run a Zelda, Metroid, or Batman game. Luckily for you, all 3 of those game series have gone through extensive routing, so all you need to is learn the route. For Zelda, go to ZeldaSpeedruns.com (on my phone, so the link probably won't work). They'll help you out from there. For Batman, I recommend contacting RoboSparkle, Cojasoa, or other Batman runners for advice, as they'll know much more than me. For Metroid, I'm not entirely sure, sorry Sad

There's a bunch of other stuff like having the right mindset, practicing, so on and so forth, but you'll cross that bridge when you get to it

I thought he meant he wanted to speedrun some sort of Hack or Homebrew called Zelda Metroid Batman. I was like... That's the greatest game ever.

But yeah like hobo said, take your time picking a game you think you'll enjoy running, those three titles have lots of hours put into them already, if you are definitive on those; Maybe watch a few runs of the game if possible and get an idea of what to expect. Learn the run then practice and so forth - You can even get involved in the community by finding the SDA thread for the game you're looking for. Follow runners on twitch for your favorite games by searching them on google, youtube or twitch. Smiley Other than than just have fun with it, you don't need to be the best to speedrun.
Let's get sweaty
You could always check the #metroid channel in SRL's IRC. As for people to contact, here's my personal list for Metroid runners.
Metroid - Dragondarch
Metroid II - Emptyeye
Super Metroid - Garrison, Ivan, or Zoast
Fusion/Zero Mission - Dragondarch or KirbyMastah
Prime/Prime 2 - Miles
thanks you guys
Jumping Turtle
Metroid2002 for most of your Metroid speedrun needs.

Also I'm starting up a tutorial series, planning to include many Metroid. I currently only have half a tutorial for Metroid 1 Any% No Major Skips. Also dragonfangs is a great source of Fusio and Zero Mission info. Also https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/metroid_speedrunning_marathon_2015.html
