everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music

So, on top of this casual speedrunning board, SDA now also accepts freeware runs? Does this mean I can submit my Iji run, and would it become part of the main site and game list?

Yes sir!

You'll have to see what Nate says about the video quality. I think you should be good but let's make sure.

Wait, are you the author of the game? Congrats, it's a top 3 game (all games, not just freeware) for me last year. I know others who have it #1. As someone who wishes indie games weren't almost synonymous with "art game that sucks" (disclaimer: extremely biased and exaggerated personal opinion), I salute you.

You've seen the Cave Story low% run on freewareruns.com, right? Downright sickening.
Hi! I'm andrewg!
Wait, SDA is actually hosting freeware runs now? Hosting the videos that is?

If someone ever actually submits one I believe sda would.

I was under the impression this was well known, but I didn't announce it (maybe no one did, maybe Mike just told people) and I haven't been following SDA Discussion much lately.

Anyway it's happening. LLCD was in the process of submitting Kaiten Patissier (and Green Island) but we're holding off since I started improving IL's, which caused him to make some improvements too. The run is really tight now, the game tracks down to the frame and I think many of the levels are frame-perfect. Of course it helps they only last several seconds each.

BTW if you don't know what these games are and you're curious, I'll bump and update the Alpha Secret Base thread sometime.

If you look at the game pages on SDA, all you can see are the best at any particular game.

On TASvideos you can find obsoleted runs for any game. I wonder if this site would ever think of adopting such an idea.

Ooh, awesome. When I find the time I should probably do a new run with the known improvements, keeping it 800*600 and submit that. Thanks Smiley

Maybe make a board for it in anticipation and publicity. Also, I don't think it's been announced in the news either.

Let me just wave my magic wand...

This site teaches me a lot of things, like I kinda understand now why elementary school teachers say "if you ask when timeout in the corner is over, you only get 5 more minutes." Tongue

I'm currently building a magic wand

Why would anyone need to make a board? You can already find many threads for freewares in the PC board since they are PC games after all. Also, there's no need to announce it in the news until we're posting the first such run. It won't be long anyway.

There have been lots of indications in the rules threads that the rules on freeware were probably going to change, but I don't think anyone has ever said 'okay, freeware runs are now allowed' on the forum prior to your post in this thread.

Yeah Exploding Cabbage is right, I need to write it into the rules, but I've been putting that off forever. Undecided

This is best board what ever are created. There is lot very good speedrunners, but these ones not can beat current WR runs. But these guys can still are close it. I am good example with this. Wink

Thanks with this SDA. It always awesome see other players personal runs too. Wink

The Shift series would work well (link is for the first one, there's 4 now I think)

I was busy with the first Shift a year ago, my best run (214.6 seconds) contained 3 mistakes though Undecided Maybe I should try to finish it up and submit it?

And yeah, the other ones are quite nice for speedrunning as well. Even the Player Packs from Shift 3 could be done. They're pretty short.
I haven't checked Shift 4 yet.

Some how I completely missed that these were PC games. Carry on.

Any information about how to actually record flash games? I'm thinking Fancy Pants would be cool.
welcome to the machine
You can try using camtasia, but it's even more resource-heavy than fraps.

I used Camtasia and then just draw a rectangle on the area to record.

I've made a run of "The Fancy Pants Adventure: World 1" which you can find here. It's not an all too good run though. And I've never really liked the second Fancy Pants game Undecided
spread the dirt to the populace
Just had a thought...

I'd be interested in doing some MAME stuff for this forum, but I'd like to suggest one important general rule:

Any arcade speedrun must complete the game in 1 credit.

Spamming bombs/specials/etc. and killing yourself for refills over and over would be the best strategy in a ton of these games otherwise. =/
Well, that all depends on the person who starts a thread in this section, as this is just for fun.

If you mean things on SDA level, then that is moreorless a given condition. I'd LOVE to see some MAME games up on this site. Go for it!

Nah, SDA has a strict no-emulators policy.

I was thinking more if anyone besides me got into it...just wanted to set the ground rules so people don't abuse infinite credits and think they're awesome.
Oh yeah.....the emulator rule....completely forgot that that was pretty much the only way to play MAME games.

Either this or a 1-credit/infinite credits category split. Though honestly, I'm not sure if anyone would actually want to see a multi-credit run because they look terrible to be honest. :-/
destroy them with lazers
Might be cool to see some arcade runs done for the casual speedruns. Contra Arcade would be cool to see.

"Keep you waiting huh?!"
Hi everyone!
Where can I show/link my own speedrun (resident evil 3 nemesis)??
Good SADX Run sometime? :)
