I was reading this post earlier today and I had a few  questions about the Twitch subscription on the GamesDoneQuick channel.

From what I understand, when the GDQ Twitch channel first got a subscription back in 2013 it was bi-yearly with all the money going to either the AGDQ or SGDQ charity. Twitch couldn't automate this at the time, so the subscription money had to be donated manually.

But starting in 2015 this changed. The channel subscription went from a bi-yearly to a standard monthly one. According to staff, this was because the channel would feature more content during the off-months between events. The revenue earned from subs during off-months would go to the GDQ staff, while the subscription money earned during marathons would still go to the charity. That's all well and good. However, I don't recall this change ever being made general knowledge or being disclosed anywhere. I'm only aware of this now because of a few people asking about it here, there was no official announcement about it anywhere to my knowledge.

I'm mainly concerned about Twitch subscribers being ill-informed. For example, I could easily see someone staying subscribed to the GDQ channel thinking all their money is going to charity while, in reality, it's only going to charity during certain months. Again, nothing was said about this change outside of a few specific forum posts, which the majority of people aren't going to see. There's nothing on the GDQ channel page about where subscription money goes either. So were subscribers adequately informed about this? I'm not subscribed to any channels on twitch, but I know channel owners have the ability to send emails to subscribers.

The other thing I have questions about is the subscription money itself. Starting with AGDQ15, Twitch apparently found a way automate the subscription money and donate it to PCF. I was able to find a $8000 donation from Twitch for the AGDQ15 subscription money, but I'm pretty sure this was only for Twitch's side and not GDQ's side. I haven't been able to find an equal donation from Mike Uyama, or any other staff member, on the tracker for the subscription money either. Obviously not every donation to PCF has to go through the GDQ tracker, but it's never been said if or when GDQ's side of the subscription money for AGDQ15 was donated.

Also, what's happened during SGDQ15? According to staff, Twitch screwed something up on their end and the process wasn't automated this time and right now the GDQ staff are sitting on their side of the subscription money, waiting to donate it to MSF. Why the holdup? I don't understand why it's taken 3 months to sort this out and why we're only just learning about this now. And it hasn't been made clear if Twitch's side of the subscription money even went to MSF this year, as I can't find any donations from twitch on the tracker or any other information about this.

Again, a lot of this hasn't been made clear and I'd appreciate it if someone could help clarify all this a bit.

Thanks.

Crawlathon WR, get down on my level.
I don't know if we made any other announcements (Twitch might have sent one regardless, but I don't know for sure). We have been discussing making subscriber payouts go to the upcoming charity, but that decision is not yet final. We will make an announcement when that decision is made.

The AGDQ2015 amount was the entirety of January's subscriber payout, both Twitch and ours. This was done automatically by Twitch, and was manually entered into the tracker.

Twitch is resolving their payout of the subscriber money, and we will be resolving our side this week. We were notified less than two weeks ago that the transaction did not actually happen, and Twitch has been working out how best to resolve it.
