Oh wow! The one on ebay is really expensive right now. I would not be willing to pay that much...
Also, do you have any idea on whether you can offer it cheaper over time, once you have produced more of them? (Maybe if you have enough orders to get mass production going or something. Not exactly shure how things like that work.)

a question.
what are the current plans with the 3DSXL version of the capture device? any of you guys making them planning to jump on it soon or will you wait longer? after the whole thing with my 3DS being lost on the mail, i don't quite feel like buying another identical one currently because i got the XL last month and i would rather use that one since it is several times more comfortable.

I haven't decided if I'm going to make one yet.  If I do, it won't be ready for a few months, at least.

I don't know.  It's too soon to try predicting future prices.  I'm really curious to see how the eBay bidding turns out.  If it ends somewhere stupidly high, I'll be really tempted to sell everything there, at least for a while.  It would be throwing money away not to.
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
i see. makes sense since you'd have to do the whole R&D again for it.

also, i saw the ebay listing and, looking at those prices, i wouldn't be surprised if the fool who stole my 3DS knew what he was looking at when he checked my mail. sometimes it is better when people who check packages are clueless...
So I noticed the ebay auction includes a new 3ds. Will you ever auction off just the board and installation without the 3ds?
AlphaStrategyGui des.com
Anyone got a link to these auctions?

It's linked on his site, 3dscapture.com

Yeah sure! Would suck for us, but I'd do the same if I were you.

Basically anything that will be payed above $380 or so (Capture Card + 3DS) is just like paying for a ticket to get a modded 3DS earlier than other people. Therefore I think paying $200+ (Maybe even $300+ in the end) extra is pretty stupid. But hey, it's their money. (Or yours soon Wink )
For some people, it's their job.  If they can make better videos than everyone else it's worth it (professional looking video = more views, ad revenue), so it's not so stupid to them.

Yeah, I might.  It gets a little weird because I'm not selling an immediate product anymore.  It's like .. you win a chance to send your 3DS to me.  Can you sell things like that?

It's been suggested that I use Kickstarter, and different price tiers get you one sooner.  I think there might be some problems with that.  I've never used Kickstarter, so I don't know.
- If you pay and then your slot fills up so you want it sooner, can you change your contribution amount later?  It turns into a bidding war, and I should probably have used ebay anyway.
- If I get WAY too many orders the whole thing could blow up in my face, I'll never be able to deliver on time.

It'd be considered a service, which you should be able to sell on ebay - I don't see anything forbidding it.

To ensure what's being done, it's better to just sell a premodded 3DS model. Less hassle, less concerns, less issues. Ebay is a nice environment. People are more likely to just bid on something rather than "Buy It Now". I don't think Kickstarter is the right thing to use in this situation. Maybe if you included different levels of hardware installs to go with the pricing, it would make more sense, but give you more work to do and more things to keep track of. By using Ebay, when you have an extra model ready, it's just so must easier to work with in my opinion. I think you should also look into the costs of adding and clearing of payment of Credit Cards because then PayPal from my understanding doesn't dip into your funds and you can save additional money as things pick up. Just make sure to include on Ebay at the very least to continue looking for more of the units in the future so they don't think it's a one time thing.

Technically you can sell your auction as a service as long as things are clear. People do this all the time on Ebay such as with reballing/overflowing Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 units, and those guys have been doing it for well over a year. A premade 3DS mod sells easier and better and more guaranteed.
@loopy: For those who choose to do the mod themselves, and if somehow, they broke the flex cable, how much would a replacement cost?

... and that's why I try to discourage self-installs Wink
I'll send you another one for $5.

(edit) Oh... you're far away, aren't you.  I'll figure out the shipping and get back to you.
How exactly did it break, anyway?  Just curious.

I haven't received the board yet actually, I was just wondering how much it would be in-case I did or anyone else broke it because I saw it was mentioned that it's not meant to be removed as it could possibly break.

Oh, that's good.  Sorry for jumping to conclusions Smiley
Got my setup in the mail today. Perfect!
Got mine today and it is working great. I thought there were audio issues from odd distortions at first, but it turned out I had mic filters on. Just point of warning for anyone else, turn off mic gain, effects, etc. while recording. Windows 7 even got the drivers right on its own so I didn't need to mess with the download on the site.
Visit us!
Strange, to my experience, Windows 7 needs the Drivers, while Windows 8 doesn't.
And Greenalink was a bit wrong, as I've got a few YouTube Comments about 3DS Emulators, 3DS ROMs, etc.
I especially liked the guy who said this, on one of my New Super Mario Bros. 2 Videos: "It's definitely an Emulator and ROM, because it was recorded before August 19th." (as far as I can remember).
I don't know, I'm running 64-bit Home Edition if it matters. And I actually did download the software and drivers immediately, but I decided to test the self installed drivers first before messing around. It works and everything seems to be working properly.

One question for loopy now that I'm messing around. How would the recorder handle being short on processing speed? Is there a buffer of sorts? Or would it skip/tear frames? I'm making sure to stay well under my computer's max load to be sure, but just curious.
The card uses generic WinUSB drivers.  I guess if you've installed something else that uses them then you don't need to do it again.

Someone commented on my video to tell me I didn't understand what I was saying because 3D recording is "physically impossible".
Damn Sad
It is (essentially) physically impossible, but you aren't physically capturing. You're logically capturing, so yeah you're good.

The card has memory on it to buffer a few frames.  If the cpu can't keep up, there won't be tearing but you'll drop frames.

It's all physical on some level... I'm capturing electrons moving around Wink
Be sure to break the interlacity barrier with the quackinator, by having the tootery cable connected to the xylophone. Solves all the 3D capturing problems.

Alright, so don't worry about a moment of it but best not to test my luck either.

True, but if the screen can read those electrons I can't think of any reason why another device can't once patched in.
