True. It would be great if loopy could get these mass produced, and sold in stores.
Also, don't you think ti would be better if there was a whole forum dedecated to DS/3DS capture devices?

Well, Loopy should be able to set one up, if not, then I can do it somehow.
I mean, I have the right Servers, Software, and domain names already (plus I can make sure, that all CW-Games people can login on there, and vice versa), but I think it would be better, to let Loopy take this decision first.

Yes, you could also sort of make the forums 'in' the cw-games website. Like, you go to CW-Games, and you can just select to go the forums. If you know what I mean Tongue

Yes, it would be nice to have a forum. I don't have the servers or experience to set it up. Right now SDA is sort of my unofficial home for discussing this stuff, but I'm sure The Management won't be too pleased if it gets carried away, since it's only tangentially related to speedrunning.

Don't worry, I have years of experience with Linux Servers and setting up Forums.
I can set up a fresh Forums at YHCTR.net (or YHNITRO.net), and eventually make sure, that all CW-Games Members are able to cross-login (like you register on CW-Games, and login on YHNITRO/YHCTR, and vice versa).
A freshly new domain name is no problem neither, it's all up to you.

I've never had a problem receiving things, or had to pay a fee. Sending a 3DS back, I think I'd just write "Nintendo 3DS, $150." without mentioning the capture board. Would customs know what they were looking at if they noticed it? I dunno.

Is it better to send it with an invoice? I've never sent one in the past, but I could print out a paypal receipt or something if it helps.

Okay then. I will write 2x Used 3DS Systems for 180$ and ist should be okay. Do you send the devices back to me via UPS if I pay the costs? A friend if mine is a successful Let's Player and want the device as quick as possible and he has no problems with money so I send my device with his together. It's a lot cheaper and easier for him.

in semi-related news, I received my japanese 3DS LL yesterday Smiley

it definately can be considered the "ds lite" version of the 3DS. the system is much more comfortable to hold with the smooth curved exterior vs. the angular, sharp edges of the original. I'm also liking the fact that nintendo went back to a semi-matte type finish. no more fingerprints after just looking at it the wrong way Tongue

without turning this into a 3DS LL thread (and taking the attention away from loopy's fantastic mod), these are the points that I think nintendo "made right" with the LL/XL revision

- curved exterior, making the system easier to hold without cutting into the palms of your hands
- 3D slider now has a "click" position, indicating that you've shut off the 3D effect when you move it all of the way down (NCL eliminated the LED indicator visible on the original 3DS system)
- L and R shoulder buttons appear to have a bit more travel to them, giving you a better sense that you've pressed them
- semi-matte surface does a much better job of hiding fingerprints (they're still there and you can see them in the proper light, but they don't scream out like they do on the high gloss metallic finish of the original 3DS systems
- "real" buttons for start - home - select (opposed to the plastic membrane). no more worries about them cracking after prolonged and repeated use or becoming damaged (dented) from fingernails
- the reflective filter on the 3D screen appears to be much better, allowing for a more immersive 3D affect and easier to view screen

This looks really interesting. This could be a stupid question, but once the 3DS is modded, can you still play on the normal 3DS screen or do you have to go through the USB?

the system, even when modded, functions just like a normal 3DS. it only captures if you have it connected via usb and are running the capture software.

Will the device actually consume battery or will it be powered via USB when connected? Never thought of that.

This one is very likely to consume battery. You can use the regular adapter to charge it up while it is connected the USB capture cable.

hmm i've decided to wait and get the mod later since my money is on the 3DSXL for now and i need to rethink my strat to get a 3DS sent to loopy.
i look forward to everyone's impressions once people start getting the capture devices.

btw, couldn't people say the extra bulk is just a battery if the customs ask about it?

Battery is difficult because of its chemical parts. In some countries this is forbidden to send.
