Btw, is someone here speaking chinese? That picture in the first post seems like he managed to get both screens on his PC or sth o-o http://bbs.tgbus.com/thread-3332735-1-1.html

From what I can tell, there's no discussion about how he capture it, it's about the game.
Sure sure YH, the photos themself are taken by camera. But if you look closely at the first one, both 3DS screens are perfectly displayed on another screen. I doubt he would take the photos with a cam, edit them on the PC and then take a cam pic instead of a screenshot of them again. lol
Well, I'll keep an eye on the topic and try to follow the discussion, which mentions 'screenshot' according to GoogleTranslate pretty often now.
It seems like it's a real Capture Device. It's pretty hard to tell it's either a Partner-CTR Capture, IS-CTR-CAPTURE (yes, this one exists!), or a handmade one. If it's Partner-CTR Capture or IS-CTR-CAPTURE, it doesn't have a use to ask him/her about that at all, because you definitely won't get one.
Teaser pic. Video output is still sketchy, obviously. I'm just dumping raw screen data out without attempting any buffering or video sync. I'll be working on USB first, since I think that's useful to more people but I wanted to prove out the hardware first.
Will the final product be as easy to install as the original DS version or will it require a bit more? Found these images on your site and they scare me.
No, it won't be as easy to install, as you've seen. 02.jpg shows the soldering that needs to be done. I'm not sure yet what the capture capabilities will be. USB 2.0 speeds are limiting, it will be necessary to use some combination of reduced frame rate, color depth, some sort of compression, left or right or only top screen ... maybe make all of the above options to the user. I have a lot of testing to do yet.
I can see, HDMI out has the same problems as last year.
About USB 2.0, that's a pitty. I mean, most PC's nowadays have USB 2.0. Replacing it by USB 3.0, could be rendered useless to most (older) hardware. Replacing it by FireWire, could also render it useless to most (non-Apple) hardware.
Honestly in a choice between USB 3.0 and Firewire, USB 3.0 is a better way to go. Add on cards for PCs are getting really cheap and most PCs now have at least 1 PCI-e slot on it. And as USB 3.0 becomes more commonplace, it'll just get cheaper and cheaper.
My PC doesn't have a PCI-e slot, because it's an iMac. Even the latest models don't have USB 3.0, as far as I know.
But I'm fine with Top Screen only, as most 3DS games don't use the Bottom Screen as much as DS games do. But still, being able to show everything is always better. In this case, the compression part would be better.
But when you want to have everything on its maximum, I think it's the best to look for a way to capture HDMI into a video file. Any suggestions for that?
The cheapest HDMI capture card I know costs ~80€ (AVerMedia H727) and I'm not even sure if you can put two of these into one PC. I think that USB3.0 would be the best choice, because everyone who can install two HDMI capture cards could also install some cheap USB3.0 ports (PCIe, miniPCIe, ExpressCard etc) and all new PCs already have at least 2 ports on board.
Yeah, I COULD shoot for the moon and make it USB 3.0 and anything else you can think of ... how long do you want to wait for this to be finished? I'm already very familiar with this USB controller, it's the same one in the DS capture card, I have supporting libraries and working firmware written for it, so that's what you get
We're already waiting a year for it to be finished (well, almost 1 year), so being done as soon as possible would be handy. USB 3.0 is less compatible, but the speed it great.
But now I need to find a way to be able to run USB 3.0 on an iMac, which doesn't have one at all. I've already been looking for HDMI to S-Video, HDMI to Component, HDMI to USB, HDMI to FireWire, etc., but no luck.
Did you notice that orange piece? Loopy made that, to make soldering a lot less painful.
I don't know how painless that would be, so we did call up a Console Modder in Vlissingen (or Flushing, in English). He'd like to help us out, but he first wants to see how that looks like. But to be honest, I don't really trust that guy, but at least better then someone in Gent or Antwerpen.
It's not as bad as it looks. I think even someone with no soldering experience can do it without much difficulty ... it just takes a steady hand and some patience. Putting the 3DS back together is the tricky part.
