I agree with you but i disagree at one point: nobody has speedrun a game as fast as possible, but some TAS "MIGHT" be the fastest possible (we'll never know for sure).
Who cares if its the fastest possible if its not humanly possible?
I'll have these beaten by tomorrow with no deaths and will give you a vid.

FODA, man, you'd probably be the guy who watches an athlete run a mile in 3 minutes and 30 seconds, and then you'd be like, "That's not impressive at all because a jet can travel a mile so much faster, but even a jet isn't the fastest possible because I saw a teleporter on the Sci-Fi Channel that can transport a human the length of a mile in 0.00000000001 seconds."
If this turns into a TAS v Speedrun topic I will cry.
Anyways, I think a three-game speedrun is a cool extension of a single-segment run. I mean, sonic 1 => sonic 2 => sonic 3 & k would be the epitome of awesomeness. Not a bad idea, foda.
Obviously none of the three games would be done perfectly, but just the amount of gaming concentrated at that point would be pretty cool.
Contra 3 is definitely not an easy game to go through after two relatively hard runs of the NES games. Be nice if you came in under 20 m or so for that though.
My times were: contra 1: about 12:15 super c: about 17:40
I'll try again in a few days, but i'm too annoyed with contra 3 right now to try again.
Contra III on the hard difficulty setting is a ton harder than Contra and Super C, so if you no-deathed Contra and Super C and then had one or two deaths in Contra III, I'd still be very impressed.
Here's a short list of trilogy runs that many people would probably love to see in a single segment (all of these games are for the NES unless otherwise noted):
Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3
Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Gaiden II, Ninja Gaiden III
The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)
Castlevania, Castlevania III, Super Castlevania IV (SNES)
Mega Man, Mega Man 2, Mega Man 3
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III

this just seems to be filled with disability to understand other's opinions, so i'll refrain from replying to it. ok, i'll explain my point a bit: if i want to see the shortest time between point A and point B i'll certainly not look for what a human being can do if there's something that can go faster. If I want to see how fast can a human being go from point A to B, i'll watch it and be impressed at the fastest one. Case closed, this is my opinion of what I like, no need to argue on that.
About the series runs, I'm glad that the idea has sparkled some interest here, and I really wish to see these coming to life. Stanski, I might even try beating your contra, super C, contra 3 time after you finish it
btw, I really plan on doing ninja gaiden 1 2 3, but don't expect major performance, as I don't study these games much. If I can lose a few lives during the 3 games I'd consider that a huge success for me.
stanski, how many copies of Super C do you have? Or are you playing on an emulator?
I hope it's an actual cartridge because the one you let me borrow is beginning to act up. Gray screen frequency has been steadily increasing. Blowing and smacking aren't as effective anymore (oh be quiet you perverts). I'm guessing my many hours of playing have aged your game quite a lot. I really hope I can finish my low% run and give you back the game before it dies.
Btw, if anyone is contemplating attempting a Super C low% speedrun, I highly suggest you give it a second thought. Level 7, especially the boss, will cause you physical pain.

I could imagine that being pretty tough; plus, watching Zelda II is pretty boring. I would definitely be interested in seeing a Zelda I, and Zelda I - 2nd Quest megarun.

Emulator.
Don't worry if it dies, I just really hope it holds out for you to get a run done. Have you tried rubbing alcohol on the contacts (obviously wipe off the rubbing alcohol before inserting). The other thing is, I know you probably don't want to mess with the system, but opening it up and tightening the connectors has made my games work 100% better. Obviously you can buy a new connector for it, but i would bet just tightening them would do the trick. It is not hard to do and impossible to screw up the system.
I mean the NES donkey kong. The one that has a TAS that only takes one minute. Yoshi's island seems like too much of a side game, I think strictly mario platforming games is better.
If I were to do a SS through all those games I think I'd include yoshi's island. It's a pretty tough game. Although that would add like 2 and a half hours onto the total.
Just doing smb1, 2, and 3 would make more sense though. It would only take you like a half hour.
Well, I did beat it... Problem is, for some reason the avi recording on contra 3 got messed up (it didn't dump at all). I wasn't using a regular smv movie file at all because I didn't think it was necessary, so I'm SOL. I think my snes9x sucks because i've been having problems watching TAS' as well. I can upload the avi's from the other 2 runs though if anyone was interested, i think my times were about 12 minutes and about 16:15. my contra 3 time was about 20:30. Didn't die in any of the games. so total, it was approximately 48 minutes.
